Question How does Mary understand Yumeko to the point of psychic communication

I finished chapter 75 and omd the progression of the manga is sooooo goooooddd .. but is it because Mary and Yumeko have made themselves naked in this garden of Eden ? (the clothing and fig leaves would be pride and an end goal)

also, is the bible metaphor actually subtly relevant like a a whole theme? or am I a bit too hung up on Kirari comparing Yumeko to a snake in her ‘garden of eden’?

Question Questions about chapter 131 Spoiler

Some things in the chapter really confused me, and I was hoping someone could help. My two questions are -

  1. How did Runa not score any points if her guess was nine minutes and zero seconds and Mary’s actual time was eleven minutes and eight seconds? Didn‘t the rules say a guess within 5 minutes means you get 1 point?

  2. If Runa wants a draw because of her “absolute neutrality”, how is intentionally getting 0 points on every round (which, to my understanding, is what Runa’s trying to do) going to result in a draw if Mary has 5 points and Runa has 3 points from round 2? Doesn’t Runa need 2 points to even the score before the game ends?

I’d appreciate any responses, thanks!

Manga Does anyone else think Ririka is secretly jealous of Yumeko?

I've been rereading the election arc and I can't shake the feeling that Ririka is genuinely jealous of Yumeko and Mary's relationship. When Ririka watches them gamble, she looks so stressed and left out, almost like she's terrified Yumeko is going to pull Mary away from her.

It feels completely romantic to me. Especially later on when Ririka privately asks Yumeko if she and Ryota are "partners" too. To me, it looks like Ririka was trying to see if Yumeko treats everyone that way, or if she needed to guard her connection with Mary because she sees Yumeko as a romantic threat.

What do you guys think? Is Ririka's protective streak toward Mary driven by lowkey romantic jealousy of Yumeko, or am I totally misreading her insecurity?

Question Is Yumeko’s superego just broken

(tagged as question btw)

in Freudian psychology there is core principle that holds three key concepts that are all intertwined.

id, superego and ego

the ego is the conscious mind, the id is the wants and superego is the moral compass just to round it down

I really think this explains all of her behavior in the manga (I’m new gen btw, chapter 34) but I’m curious what everyone else says 👀 if there’s someone with more knowledge on psychology than me

It’s going to be a while, but Ririka’s debut on the betting cruise is sure to be incredible, and I’m really looking forward to it. Plus, she’s a great opponent for Yukihime.

I find this detail interesting: Ririka "beheading" Kirari if she did an all-in during the Change Poker Game, and then Kaede "strangling" Yukihime in order to win their Time Number Game

Manga Ririka's dilemma recently Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
21 Upvotes

Outside the current 2 teams gambling, there's Ririka. She tried reassuring Mary about being left out and ended up getting ditched for her to later join the GS which is kind of a problem for her.

She does have a will to save Kirari as a relative, even if their relationship is kind of eh, after everything that had happened between them, which might make it a bit harder.

But, she also loves Mary soooo much wants to help her win which is unfortunately and unknowingly cutting off her poor sisters head in this situation.

Though, I'm sure she'll be able to come up with a solution to this and doesn't have to choose one over the other. I'm curious to see what her reaction is, even if she doesn't end up very surprised which is my main guess.

I think she’s a great character so far. I’m glad she’s more involved than I thought. I figured she would just declare the gamble cruise but she ended up participating too.

Discussion Unpopular opinion maybe, but Yumeko’s entire philosophy is kind of total BS Spoiler

I know I’m probably about to get downvoted into oblivion for this, but after going through the series again, it’s really hard to unsee how much of a massive hypocrite Yumeko is.

We’re constantly told that she’s this pure, chaotic apostle of risk who just wants to throw herself to the mercy of fate, but if you actually look at what she does, she almost never actually gambles. 90% of her matches aren't games of chance—they’re basically detective puzzles. Her opponent brings a rigged game (Mary’s class signals, Sumeragi’s cards, Yuriko’s magnets, Manyuda buying out the table, Kinu’s tricks), Yumeko figures out the cheat in two rounds, and then mathematically guarantees her own win. That’s not gambling, that's just outsmarting an idiot. The only time she ever actually takes a pure blind risk is on a random coin flip for sweets with Ryota( which she lost by the way ).

On top of that, she acts like she’s putting her life on the line with her opponents, but she literally has zero stakes. When Kaede lost, his entire future, family standing, and political career were destroyed—his hair literally turned white from the stress. What did Yumeko risk? She has endless money, no reputation to protect, no career goals, and when she got made a housepet, she literally smiled and used it as a VIP pass to challenge the council. She was even willing to bet her parent’s wedding ring, so I don’t know if she even cared about it that much. At this point the only thing she hasn’t bet is Ryota ( yet ).

By chapter 95 she’s giving Kirari this huge dramatic speech about how "we need to destroy everything we're attached to so we can truly gamble," while Kirari is wagering an entire clan empire and the presidency, and Yumeko is wagering… a thumb ring. It’s very easy to demand everyone else burn their lives down when you don't own any firewood to begin with.

And don't even get me started on her rules for cheating. When Mary and Sumeragi cheat, Yumeko is in pure ecstasy talking about how deception is "the beautiful essence of gambling." But the second Yuriko or Kinu cheats to protect themselves, she suddenly turns into a self-righteous purist, calling them pathetic cowards who don't understand the spirit of the game. She literally just changes the moral rules depending on whether she's amused or bored.

Don't get me wrong, I think this makes her a way more interesting character as a broken, wealthy nihilist who ruins people's lives for an adrenaline fix. But the whole idea that she’s some noble, fair-play gambling savant is completely detached from what’s actually happening on the page.

Anyway, just needed to get that off my chest. Anyone else notice this or am I just crazy?
