I’ve had this sword from gramps for 60 years. Does not having a signature on tang make it worth less or fake?

Hello and hope you are all doing well.

Just a photo-dump of some incoming swords I irresponsible purchased/custom-ordered over the course of Summer.

The daisho are made by Ryansword from 1095 High-Carbon Steel with Midare hamon and are directly inspired by the Fate/Samurai Remnant daisho worn and used by the main protagonist, Iori Miyamoto. Also inspired by u/SSJTriforce's first attempt at recreating the swords (Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Katanas/s/aFWmPYoLKB).

Next is a custom Tanjiro Nichirin katana also made by Ryansword, with a blackened electroplated 1095 High-Carbon Steel blade, with the original fuchi-kashira fittings swapped out for silver-plated basket-weaved themed fuchi-kashira, and bamboo menuki. Sageo was forgone for a newly purchased one that I think will go well with a the sword. A mistake was made on the blade and is currently undergoing re-blackening for it.

Finally, from the eBay store, wang-katana2011, a blackened T-10 blade with a distinct red hamon. This sword design was inspired also by Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer), specifically by Kokushibou's katana, Kyokokukamusari (lit. "Hollow Cry of the Godless").

The habaki is really really lovely being what seems solid silver which I thought was pretty sweet! The polish is unbelievably beautiful in person 🙌 the Hada , hamon, and sugata are the nicest I’ve ever personally seen :D

For some context, my boyfriend is a fan of bleach and his favorite is Kuchiki Byakuya. I wanted to get him the katana as a first year anniversary gift or something close to it but I really don't want to waste my money on some plastic object or a scam website. do you guys have any suggestions on where I could find or get something similar?

So, I've been treating it well like y'all suggested, using 91% isopropyl alcohol, some cotton pads, some mineral oil; And also some sandpaper to get the rust off.

I used 150 fine grit sandpaper, mostly because I know it's not the best steel and most likely a chinese fake, so I don't really care how much damage I inflict.

Here are a couple pictures after using the 150 grit.

I'm looking for a positive or negative reasonable feedback. I have a sharpener and can sharpen it.

What are your recommendations, fellow katana-bushido enthusiasts?

Hi, im thinking of ordering my first custom katana but am worried about the uk customs. Has anyone successfully received a sword from them in the uk?

I’m sharing a few observations from our katana assembly guide, and I’d welcome feedback from collectors.

“Tight fittings” appears in a lot of katana descriptions, but the phrase alone doesn’t explain much. Here are three details worth looking at:

- A firm tsuba is only part of the picture. The contact between the habaki, seppa, guard and handle matters too—not just whether the guard moves.

- A visible gap needs context. A shadow around the edge of a decorative fitting isn’t necessarily the same as a gap between surfaces that should be seated together.

- Alignment deserves attention. Looking from different angles helps show whether the handle and fittings follow the intended line of the blade.

These are observations about fit and finish, not proof of heat treatment or overall safety. Photos also have limits: they can show alignment and visible gaps, but they can’t establish how securely everything fits.

When you inspect a new katana, which fitting detail do you check first? Are there particular angles or close-ups you wish sellers included more often?

This was my Grandpas and sadly looking to sell but I have no idea how much it can go for.

It looks *very* nice for the $225 price tag on it. The tsuba looks simple but old and the fittings looks nice. I wonder if anyone could tell me on crazy for thinking this looks like something to consider buying

I just had a question about if there are more antique Japanese swords residing inside Japan or more outisde. I know after the war many were brought to America and other countries so I was wondering if years later what they numbers maybe evened look like.
