Zoom in on pic 5. There is a hole in the exhaust where it was. Looks like maybe they tried to epoxy it on. I can't answer how you move forward without more info. Is the hole tapped with a bung?
Nah man if anything get an exhaust shop to weld a o2 sensor bung on there and replace the sensor. Probably like 200 bucks all in to have it done right.
Might check the ecu and see if there are any physical markings on it. A lot of tuners just write out the O2 sensor codes.
Edit: just saw the open bung in your mid pipe. That's where its supposed to go. Some exhausts have the larger O2 bungs to accommodate a wideband for tuning and then use an adapter to step it down to the factory narrow band thread. Looks like the previous owner tried to use some sort of putty to hold it into place in the hole cause they didn't have the adapter.
Depends on what you want to do. I'd probably just send the ecu out to get flashed and then unplug the O2 as it won't need it anymore. Then get a plug to plug off that hole in the exhaust. You may be able to clean the threads on the O2 and the bung and then just order an adapter and fit the O2 back in, but a lot depends on what they used to "hold" it into place.
If it's a reputable shop they should be able to look at it and give you a solution. It's fine we all have to start somewhere. There's really no good way for any of us to tackle this issue for you at a distance, especially if you don't typically do mechanical stuff.
Just to echo everyone here to confirm it's a O2 sensor which usually is plugged into the exhaust. You should see a check engine light with code 33 or 67.
O2 sensor - looks like the weld on the bung failed or it failed previously and somebody has done some bs to put it back in.
You have a couple options.
1. Check if O2 sensor deletes are a thing for your model, specifically this looks like a post catalyser O2 sensor which is to check for cat removal. On an un-modified bike removing this will result in an engine code/warning in the next 100-200kms. Doesn’t affect how the bikes runs. A delete could look like a piggy back loom in between this and the main loom (in which case you still need to have this replaced and a new bung fit), an ECU modification or a box which replaces this sensor (in which case you can get this hole blanked off)
2. Get a new bung put on, and a new sensor. Buy a new sensor then source a bung to fit - usually M18x1.5 for this size sensor. Find a decent welding or metal fab shop to put the new bung on your exhaust in that same spot and fit the new sensor.
Buy this and a new sensor, and have an engineering/welding workshop weld it in for you. You don't wanna run without the oxygen sensor and potentially run lean, that'll kill your engine.
If the bike has a full exhaust and is not showing a check engine light running like this DO NOT put an O2 sensor back in the exhaust. When a bike is tuned they override the stock fuel mappings to adjust it correctly for the full exhaust. The first thing they recommend is to unplug the O2 wiring on the other end so the bike doesn't adjust the mapping back to stock.
What you need is an O2 bung plug with a copper washer. Then zip tie that O2 sensor up somewhere safe. If your bike is showing a check engine light then you need a new working O2 sensor.
So, should I just take it to a local muffler shop and have them install an O2 bung plug without replacing the O2 sensor, then secure the sensor/wiring with the current exhaust setup? Or would you recommend replacing the O2 sensor as well?
Have a muffler shop plug the hole and just tuck the OEM sensor somewhere or completely remove it. The previous owner either installed a power commander or got a tune that overrides the O2 sensor. If you install a working O2 sensor it's going to override the tune on the bike making it run worse with the full exhaust system.
Looks like whoever put that aftermarket exhaust on had no clue what to do with the O2 sensor you can get a flare kit for it pretty dang cheap and have the hole welded up if your getting the bike tuned they could do all of that fairly easy
