🔥 Mod Announcement 🔥 Watch Club

Hi ladies

u/Valuable-Machine-500 suggested the idea of a Watch Club in this post:

I thought it was an interesting idea and worth exploring as a community activity.

The general idea would be to:

  • Choose a series (and possibly movies)
  • Watch over a set period
  • Have ongoing discussions
  • Meet at the end to talk through themes and then decide what to watch next

u/StrawberryEast1374 since you mentioned using Discord for this, you could go ahead and create a server and share the invite link here.

Once the link is ready, I’ll post it officially and add it to the community wiki so anyone interested can join.

Rant "Angry Women"

I think we have all watched The Diary Of A Mad Black Woman. Won't lie, I love the bathtub scene. Felt like vindication. For someone who has had to keep anger locked in for so long it always makes me feel a bit happy seeing a woman have a justified crash out. Though I know social media gonna be like ohhh what she did was wrong da da da...

An old contact messaged me recently. I thought I had blocked and deleted his number cause this guy was a piece of work: would ask invasive questions, send pp pics without asking and worst of all this guy was extremely stupid. Saw a post here about a man being the embodiment of the 😅 emoji and I was like yooo that's just like the guy who has been pestering me this week. I could ask him a simple thing like " Are you working btw?" and he would respond "😅😅 noooo, don't wanna... anyway lemme see your boobs". I did not even ng'ang'ana with him just blocked and carried on my day but I felt so pissed like I wanted ...more. I wanted justice and this just felt like a hot fart in a desert storm: pathetic.

I have been told to control my anger yet most times when I am angry I will either cry or sleep or run or retail therapy- when I have the cash. I never get why me just avoiding people and self isolating warrants others to get mad at me especially if they are the cause. I am actively avoiding them yet they want to escalate the problem?

I have tried looking for rage rooms or communities where women and femmes can just go and crash out in peace. But I stay in Nairobi and I feel many are far far from the city. I am tired of justifying my anger just cause it is unladylike or uncouth. Lemme go email a ninja for my money... Take care 👍

Discussion There should be women only facilities. In kenya

Sometimes there is need to have things like busses that are women specific and others that can be for both men and women and women can go either but men cannot go to women only facility.

This helps even young girls who are coming from school or travelling for school to feel secure.

I don't have enough words to explain this but something of that kind.

This is not meant to discriminate men but to help our young women feel safe.

Rant Time of the month😭

Is it just me but when it's my time of the month I get so fatigued.

I could sleep all day and it still wouldn't be enough sleep. I am just walking around like a zombie who just wants to lie down on the floor with a blanket covering her whole body.

It could be the loss of blood causing low iron levels, my periods are heavy so that could be why. Don't even get me started on the depression that hits me during that time. I am just glad I have gotten better at tracking my moods before I do something drastic.

Anyway, we really need period leave cause going to work while feeling like I can't keep my eyes open, with stabbing pains in my stomach and almost bursting into tears every 5 mins is unbearable. Shout out to the organisations such as KWAL who have instituted period leave.

By the old Gods I am drying up .

He is fit plays rugby ,hung and knows how to work it but dear god a conversation is where he draws the line .

I would call it a disability at this point to put it kindly ..if emoji were used in a real life face to face conversation he would be using this one 😅😅.

Imagine talking business and that annoying emoji keeps popping up with small statements like si it is difficult, alaah sasa utado ,hee kasongo ameharibu economy, damn si you overthink alot ,si you come here and feel my muscles.

What is the male version of a dumb blonde ? I think I should name it after him .he is duuuuuumb and to make it worse loud .pick a struggle .

But noooow I just not yet ready to let go of the physical mayoooooooo .

Let me go bang my head on a wall somewhere

Love & Romance Are women addicted to suffering?

I was listening to the song "Stop The Wedding" by Ashe which is doing beautiful numbers on TikTok; the premise is essentially, if you feel any doubt, any at all, leave. Even if there are guests, even if you bought a dress and got a caterer, burn that shit and run.

The fact that that's revolutionary to women is... Kinda sad. True , but sad. A lot of our defaults when we have doubts or feel uncomfortable isn't to pump the brakes and re-evaluate; it's to double down with the strength of a thousand suns. Even after the doubts are confirmed, it's to work through it and figure it out, not to run like our lives depend on it (which with men to be honest it often does).

And this is in no way to relieve men of their accountability in the manipulation and general dementor-like ways of sucking the joy and life out of their partners; BUT we also stay. And it's not just staying, we work at it, we work at the suffering, insisting it has to become better, that it has to mean something when in reality, it's just a toxic relationship with a man wit who has an under-developed frontal lobe and basic ass mummy issues.

And it's not all bad, but it's always, always peppered with bad: the dick was great, but withheld; communication was banging but inconsistent; joy was there but rare and fleeting. There were good times but those were countered by constantly feeling on edge and then feeling like shit. It will never be truly worth it but yet, there we are clinging to pain and disappointment wrapped up in lies and false hope.

The constant conversation is decentering men and decentering love and relationships, which is completely valid, but I think a huge problem is our love affair with suffering. We need to figure out why our response to being caused pain isn't to leave. We need to decouple men and love and relationships from suffering and overcoming so that we learn that the minute it hurts, we leave. The hallmark of a good woman cannot be our ability to endure.

Maybe also, it is just me and I needed to read this to myself 😅

Rant I don't have the exact heading for whatever I'm putting out here

Hello ladies, I love this sub and I was looking to get some insights on my relationship that I've had for two years now.

I met this guy, exactly two years ago, he was everything I always wanted in a man. He made me feel loved and cherished at the beginning, all the lovie dovies at the start of a relationship were there.

All was okay until the first visit I made to his place, I have to admit he was my first boyfriend and whilst we were trying to get intimate,he got violent at one point, felt like harassment.

I was extremely naive cause despite all that, I'd still find myself at his place cause I couldn't connect who he was on text and this.

One incident that still lingers on my mind was the day he boldly told me "sasa unalia nini na hii ni Science" I was bleeding from the ordeal.

Also, during that period I had coerced my parents to have me spend the night outside and went to his place.

To mention that he'd sometimes travel home and put on disappearing messages and ghost me the entire time was very destabilizing to me

The reason as to why I allowed this to happen for the longest time is I've been suffering from crazy self esteem.

I am kinda plump, have full on cheeks with acne that's unending, I have been to several dermatologists and at one point did a chemical peel and it did nothing much.

My mum at one point said when I initiated benzoyl peroxide,at least umeacha kukaaa chura and that thing broke my heart (forgave her)

I've also been called ugly by several customers and my former workmates. One couldn't fathom how I work in a pharmacy with all the topical ointment but I'm still having issues, she called me ugly verbatim and my co-workers heard that(broke my heart a little)

In my recent job,a friend I've been hanging out with jokingly asked unaskia aje watu wameitishwa number na wewe hujaitishwa( some guys had visited the facility). She was just hinting at me being unattractive but like usual I decided to downplay that. I don't think I am really unattractive as they put it, I have acne scars and I'm also suffering from ancathosis nigricans ,my neck and armpits appears darker than the rest of my body.

The guy I dated considered himself very attractive and always brags about how women want him and whatnot but I just maintained my silence. Also to mention when we're walking with him,he always acted disoriented like his thoughts appeared to be elsewhere. Either this or he walks past me. This also added to my self esteem deteriorating.

At one point, after we had a misunderstanding, I remember pranking him that I'm pregnant to base where I stood with him,he denied the pregnancy citing that I was talking to other men and also said that's why I always remained behind to make calls when we were walking. I saw how insecure he was and decided to always walk behind so that he is at least comfortable. I thought after that, I'd be done with him but I found myself back to him(stupid I know)

The tip of the iceberg was when I requested to see his phone and he declined and said some very unkind words to me,he was very bold to say that he'd change when he wants and that I'm not yet his wife for me to go through his phone,it led us to have a physical fight but only one that involved pushing and pulling (at one point I pulled him with so much strength and I deeply regret my actions)

We ended things after this for almost a month and I had began to move on when he made his comeback again, this time promising that he had change and even went home at one point and tried to keep in touch.

He's been gentle apart from the last visit where he raised his hand after I declined to get intimate with him but it wasn't painful and it wasn't a beating per se

Also,no outs no surprises no nothing so what do I stand to lose?

Anyway, I don't know what insights I need here but I'd really appreciate your views.

News Survival

It's been about 2/3 weeks since. Won't lie, I spiralled and wallowed a bit, but it might have been a jumpstart I needed. They never tell you how isolating building yourself can get. I've quit most of my unhealthy coping skills; drinking, casual sex, causing drama, complaining without action...

My house is a mess, but not as much as it could've been. My focus on caring for myself has grown.

Ooh, and the freedom! On the outside, it can be construed as lonely, but I've ordered my reads for the year, I'm affording myself with my stipend, my relationship with my family is great, my friends are amazing 🧡

Some days are hard, but I can see the improvements after each episode.

Yes, I've tried meds, but I feel like a zombie on them. They affect my memory and my performance becomes unreliable. No cap, my mood is amazing most of the times🙂‍↕️

Most being key. The other times were really bad, depleting my energy and ruining my relations at work and with my friends.

And I'm getting new inspiration for my business🤭🤭

Anyways, happy new week and happy almost new month!!

Story The secret deadlines we set for men

I just left a one year relationship on a random Sunday ( last Sunday )
When I told him I am leaving his first statement was 💀Si tumeongea jana vizuri tu where is all of this coming from
Here is my reason, nimekua nikimuimbia for the past 3 months anisaidie kupeleka gari garage to fix the lights and a bit of wiring on the audio and check engine light. It’s not that I can’t do it, I just want him to do that for me. It’s not the same nikijipelekea and yet I have a man 😭😭
So on that Sunday I woke up and was like this is not what I want for myself and left , there are definitely other underlying issues that backed it up the car situation was just the final nail on the coffin.

Rant I Got a Job... But Somehow I’m Still Struggling.

Hi, I’m back again with my ranting.

I’ve realized I always feel more comfortable writing about my problems online than actually sitting in front of someone and talking about them. So here I am again.

After everything I posted before, I finally got a job or at least I thought I did. I went to apply for a waitress position and somehow ended up training as a casino dealer. I was actually excited because I thought, finally, maybe things were starting to change.

The problem is that the training has now taken almost 2 months.

Remember, I have three kids, and for a long time I've been living hand to mouth. Life has been exhausting. Some days I wake up at 4 a.m. because training starts at 6 a.m. and goes until 2 p.m. Other weeks I'm on the 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. schedule.

And because I can't go home empty-handed, I still try to find something else to do around the training. I've learned to knock on people's doors and ask if they need housekeeping, laundry, errands, anything I can do.

I've even been called a scammer because apparently, "what young woman goes around looking for odd jobs?" Meanwhile, you'll see older women sitting outside gates around Kilimani waiting for work. I honestly don't understand why me trying to find a way to feed my children is suspicious.

During the casino training, we're given KES 200 per day for transport, but it's only paid at the end of the month. The bigger problem is that nobody can actually tell us when the casino will open.

At first, we were told the 25th of this month. Then it became the 1st.

Now we're being told maybe the end of next month.

And I'm tired. I'm seriously considering quitting because I don't know how long I can keep surviving on promises of "soon."

My daughter is sitting her KEPSEA this year, and I haven't even cleared everything or bought what she needs for school this term. I recently moved into a new house hoping things would get better, but rent is still a struggle.

We've also been without electricity for 2 weeks for not paying rent on time.

Sometimes I think, "Okay, I'm finally getting back on my feet." Then suddenly everything starts crumbling again.

And that's probably the hardest part. It's not even one huge disaster. It's just one problem after another, and every time I think I'm finally okay, something else happens.

I know some people will say I'm making excuses or that I should just find another job. Believe me, I'm trying. I've been knocking on doors, taking whatever work I can find, and training for two months because I thought this could finally give my children and me some stability.

I don't know whether to keep holding on or quit and find something else.

Anyway... that's my update.

Just another chapter from the woman who apparently keeps failing, getting back up, and trying again.

I'm tired, but I'm still a mother.
