Mod Announcements 👋 Welcome to r/Kitbashing40k - Read First!

Hey everyone! I'm u/OneLuckyRaven, a founding moderator of r/Kitbashing40k.

Only got a few rules for this subreddit. They are as follows:

(1) No politics, it creates too much discourse in what is supposed to be a hobby space.

(2) If it's NSFW please tag it!

(3) A kitbash using printed or sculpted stuff is perfectly fine, 3D printing 1:1 stand in's / whole models isn't kitbashing though. Please go to r/PrintedWarhammer to show off your sick models instead.

(4) This isn't the place for 3d sculptors to promote their new models/sculpts so please abstain from doing so. I understand the grind but it ain't relevant to this subreddit.

Other than that go wild, it's always fun to see the crazy and wonderful things the human brain can come up with!

Take care y'all and thanks for reading!

-This Post has been edited, changes were made so now the rules are numbered 1-4 instead of A-D.

Further Clarification and Comments:

-Rule 3/C has been slightly reworded to focus more on how we don't want to see printed 1:1 recreations of models and instead want to see something that you've poured your creativity into. (This is a rather subjective subject so if we ever remove a post that you believe was in error please reach out to us).

-As stated in Rule 3, printed bits (shoulder pads, heads, weapons, basing, etc. ) are perfectly fine to use and share where they are from, it does not break Rule 4. This is also true when using bits from other miniature companies, toy's or random bits and bobs you find on the sidewalk. (Another subjective topic, yay, please reach out to us or put a comment down below if you have questions).

-Rule 4 exists so I have an excuse to remove posts where they say "I've made a 1:1 of xyz model, please buy the stl of it". It gets really boring really quick when I see posts like that in a subreddit not dedicated wholly to 3d printed warhammer.

This is Maxime Pastourel’s Plaguebones dreadnought, I believe he uses only GW plastic, so does anyone know where he got the arms, those claws, the boxy shin covers and those feet from?

Imperium Raptors Chapter Judiciar

After a few prototypes I’ve finally landed on one that feels just right. Throwing some ordinance, looking at the data pad, the multi spectrum array on his power pack, that judicar flare and that custom sword. It’s not much but I love how it came out. Also I’m shocked I’m just now finding this sub, I’ve needed this. Kitbashing is the actual best part of the hobby hands down.

WIP Cogknight WiP on 7 day challenge

Post image

For a one week painting challenge, for some reason I decided to to not only paint something huge but for the time limit to include doing a kitbash between an Age of Sigmar Cogfort and a 40k Knight Errant. I'm 3 days down on the 7 day challenge and feeling stressed but it still seems doable. More pics to follow on Saturday with the finished result.

The Cogfort is an amazing kit with great instructions and a surprising amount of greebly detail on the lower sides. Unfortunately I felt the need to paint the top deck inside all black and seal the roof because the society of hidden paint isn't high up the triage list for the time limit.

What's surprised me is how much it's starting to resemble the Hell House from Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Hobby Questions A question for everyone.

I’m just getting into kitbashing and I was wondering if anyone has ever made a scene of a marine dragging another wounded marine or helping one up on to his shoulder?

Exalted Sorcerer + Spirit Hosts make a a good Dark Apostle Kitbash. Probably would work with blue horrors too but I like the spooky skeletons.

Kitbash Advice

I tried my hand at kitbashing Atalan Jackals, Death Riders and Cadians to make a motorcycle cav unit. Because the Guard deserves to have fun riding bikes before they die. The issue I have is that forcing all the bits to fit leads to some disfigured looking models. Namely the hand where I had to chop and refit a lance, and the arms were fitted to Death rider pauldrons. I’m thinking there has to be a way to hide the ugly bits but am drawing a blank on how to do so.

Parts Used:
Jackal legs, torso, bike and forearms.
Death Riders lances, comm pack, and pauldrons.
Cadian Heads (they are too small for the torso so I had to use scraps and glue to adjust the height).

WIP Black Templars Techmarine

Hey all,

Its been some time, but I'm back with a WIP of the first of two Techmarines I'm making for my Black Templars army.

The process started with me wanting a unique kitbash for my Techmarine, as the base sculpt was too simple for my tastes (but will still be utilized). After being inspired by someone else's work (see pic #11, Original in comments), I tried using extra Sword Brethren torsos, but the poses of the torsos I had on hand didn't work for what I wanted. This lead me to the Crusade Ancient's torso. I cut off the moulded arms, slapped on the base Techmarine's backpack and we're good! Once that was done, because he's a character model I added the option of magnetized heads (pics #5 & #6). The unhelmeted head is from the Iron Hands upgrade, and the helmet is the standard Techmarine's. In time, I do want to replace the helmeted option with a classic Mk III helmet with an augmetic eye; but I've yet to obtain one. If y'all know of any good places to find it, I'd be happy to hear about it!

Next, I knew I wanted him to have a relic in his off-hand; but I also wanted the Grav Gun to be physically represented on the model. I think grav weapons are a really awesome, but seemingly dying weapon in modern 40k. So I used the Combi-Grav from a firstborn Tactical Squad (RIP), and modified it to work as a custom Forge-Combi(?), along with a couple extra bits and a servo skull. Attaching it to the backpack took sanding and shaving away to round out the backpack's connection point until it looked normal.

The Omnissian Axe was made using the base Techmarine arm/staff, a HH Melee Upgrade axe, and the piece that's added to the Sword Brethren's power mace. I used a file to create the cog-teeth in the axe head, and the SB bit was simpy glued to the back of the axe after I cut away the power-supply bit. Lastly, the spike on top was made using a piece I clipped off of a sprue and sanded down to fit.

After test fitting and seeing how the staff of the axe wasn't touching the base, I decided to add an Ork skull underneath, which I then lightly cut up to represent that he had jabbed his staff into the xeno's skull. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, and will definitely be using the idea again on other projects!

Lastly, in terms of what still needs to be completed: I need to finish some small decorations, such as adding chains to the axe-wielding arm, and possibly another purity seal of two. I'm planning to remove the SB icon off of the shin and replace it with bonding studs (possibly on both shins?). I'm also considering rolling out some greenstuff wires to attach to the torso, as I feel the torso needs a little more tech-y flair. I've also thought about putting cog-teeth in the flared bits on the knees, but I'm not sure if it'd look good, or if its feasible, since the pieces are already glued in place.

I'd like to hear y'all's thoughts on those last few ideas, and if you think they would be good additions/changes to the model. I'm happy to hear any other questions, comments, or feedback as well! Thanks!
