2027 trip planning help?
Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts/suggestions about the trip I’m planning for next summer. It will be me and my 5 year old.
We will be flying into John Wayne bc we can get a direct flight there. I am renting a car.
Day 1: fly in around 2pm. Drive to Carlsbad. Check into Hilton MarBrisa. Relax in pool, maybe go to the beach. Have an early night.
Day 2: LEGOLAND (walking distance from hotel)
Day 3: Check out of hotel. Store luggage in car
—>LEGOLAND. —-> Drive to Knotts hotel check in
Day 4: Knotts Berry Farm
Day 5: Check out of hotel—> beach day, maybe downtown Disney or Hello Kitty cafe —> Check into hotel near Disney
Day 6: DCA
Day 7: Disneyland
Day 8: Check out, go to airport, fly home.
Notes: Three hotels in 7 nights feels like a lot, but I’m trying to stay close to the theme parks so we can relax during the day & possibly take a nap.

Yes, I just don’t know how smoothly that would go with a tired 5 year old who wants to nap. We could either have to leave earlier or she would get cranky… also the stress of trying to time it to the shuttle schedule makes it kinda unappealing

On day 3 depending on what time you come up to the knotts you can do dinner at Medieval times or the pirates show. A 5year old will love it. And they are down the street from Knotts.

That’s a great idea! Thanks! She doesn’t really like loud noises, is the pirate show calmer? I haven’t heard of that one

The hotel change for knotts to Disney is going to be more of a time waste than time saved with the drive, they aren't that far apart

Yes, the main reason for the change is so that we can easily go back to the hotel during the day for a 5 year olds nap and walk to/back from the hotel

Knott’s is only about a 15 minute drive from Disneyland depending on traffic, so I probably would’ve just booked one hotel for both parks, but I do get staying on site at both parks for the reasons you mentioned.

This looks like a lovely plan. Yes changing hotels can be a slog but if you stay organized, it'll be a breeze. Staying close to each theme park for breaks is a good idea regardless.
If you want to do tea at Hello Kitty Cafe, make sure you make a reservation in advance. Otherwise, just the regular treats are fine but maybe not worth making the drive to Irvine for. The Spectrum is a big mall though, lots to see if you do make it down and the new big wheel will be done!
Make sure to measure kiddo before y'all come out so you're all well prepared for the rides they can do. Knott's is likely going to have fewer selections than Disneyland. Since you're coming in the summer, knotts will have Ghost Town Alive which is a great time.
