Can someone break down why there is so much hate for Kawai? Spoiler
I just finished a rewatch of this movie the other day and I still don't fully understand why she is often considered worse than Ueno. This is a genuine question because I feel like there something fundamental about her character that I'm missing. From what I remember, she didn't partake in the bullying when they were in elementary school and was actually kind of nice to Shoko, am I remembering it wrong?

Pls help me recover from this movie
I left the movie disturbed. That's the best word. It's beautiful, yes, and the redemption is moving, yes, but I feel like the wrongs Shouko endured were never rectified. Hearing her say she hated herself made me unbelievably angry and disgusted at her treatment. I see, I really do, how this movie is considered a masterpiece, but I would never recommend it to anyone, as one leaves feeling only beaten down by the pain you feel on behalf of Shouko.

I think it’s time.
I don’t know if I’m prepared for the downward spiral I know this movie will send me on, but I feel like it’s time. The way life is going I feel like I need something to act as a catalyst to get the tears flowing. It’s been like 2 years since I last watched anyway lol. To my siblings, do not come downstairs, you will a grown man cry.

Did anyone figure out Naoko Yamada’s hidden references? (AMA reddit)
During her Reddit AMA, Naoko Yamada said:
“I usually try to include a reference to some great/famous/well-known person in all of my works. I wonder if you all will re-watch and notice something ;)”
Has anyone actually figured out what she was referring to? I’ve tried looking around, but I haven’t found any answers.
Do you have any theories or examples you’ve noticed?
Even if it’s just a small background detail, I’d love to hear them.
Is the one piece of Naoko Yamada lol

Have anyone tried Remaking/Filming KoeNoKatachi?
Fellow Japanese film makers out there, have you guys tried remaking or just filming some of the shots from the movie? I find the movie very interesting in terms of cinematography and creative compositions and the locations chosen for the movie is quite interesting too.
Since i dont live in japan, so I cant just film it but i will be happy to help with the film if anyone is planning on making.

A Silent Voice is being shown in select theatres as a part of Regal’s ‘Month of Masterpieces’ on September 7th
Regal does an event where they get directors to select their favorite movies to be screened in theatres, and Director Chloe Zhao picked A Silent Voice as one of her choices!!!
Got my ticket to see it September 7th! It’s a big deal for me to be able to get to see it in theatres haha
It’s called Month of Masterpieces

I’ve been thinking about how well “We Can Never Die” fits A Silent Voice (Spoilers Obviously) Spoiler
Hey, so I usually don't make posts like this, and this isn’t scripted. I’m just saying my own thoughts and whatever comes to mind.
Anyways, in late 2025 I picked up and read A Silent Voice and loved it. It became one of my favorite pieces of media I consumed in 2025. I even watched the movie shortly after and loved it too.
Also around this time, I was watching Peacemaker Season 2, which in the 7th episode had this song play near the end of the episode called “We Can Never Die” by Veins of Jenna. And the more I think about it, it fits pretty well with certain parts of A Silent Voice. And the post is kind of why I love A Silent Voice and why the song fits pretty well to the story.
The lyrics, “When we’re together, we can never die,” “Look into my eyes, let me paint you a picture,” and “Two burning hearts made in a city made of straw” are some that I think fit pretty well when talking about Shoya and Shoko.
“Look into my eyes, let me paint you a picture”
Honestly, I see this line as something that fits Shoya pretty well. For most of the story, Shoya wants to be seen and understood, his thoughts and desires to make amends for his past with Shoko and his guilt he carries.
“Two burning hearts made in a city made of straw”
This reminds me a lot of Shoko and Shoya. Throughout the story, we see them carry enormous burdens and emotions in a world that isn’t always so nice.
Shoya is struggling with his guilt, is isolated later in life after bullying Shoko, and is treated as an outcast, leading to him wanting to take his own life.
And Shoko carries a different kind of pain. She believes that everything she does is her fault and constantly apologizes for everything, leading her to conclude she’s nothing more than a burden and leading to that decision later in the story.
“When we’re together, we can never die.”
This line hits the hardest for me. Early in the story, we learn that Shoya planned to take his own life after meeting with Shoko. But he doesn’t, and this decision is pretty important as both Shoya and Shoko become the reason for each other to keep going.
Later, when Shoko jumps from the balcony and Shoya catches her and doesn’t let her go, refusing to let her die, that’s when that song and that specific lyric, “When we’re together, we can never die,” hits so hard for me.
And that scene at the bridge where Shoya tells her he wants to help her live? It’s a full-circle moment. Two people who thought they didn’t deserve to live were the reason they kept going.
Again, sorry if this isn’t super polished or anything like that. I didn’t script this or anything, but hey, I was thinking about this for a while and needed to get this out there. Also I’ll leave a link to the song. Vains Of Jenna - We Can Never Die

Koe no Katachi Ogaki Photos / Movie Scenes
This is wayyyyy overdue
4 months ago (April) I went to Nagoya and then a friend asked me to go to Ogaki to pickup a visual novel at a Surugaya there… only for me to eventually realize this was where Silent Voice was based. Anddddd I somehow forgot to upload all my pictures on reddit back then despite spending so much time editing them.
Anyway here’s the pics I took based on movie scenes from Koe no Katachi / Silent Voice!
It was a very pretty city although I didn’t see many tourists visiting. Four Seasons Square was relaxing to walk through and Ogaki Park was neat although not many people were there at all.
It felt kind of funny walking into the General Welfare Hall but it’s totally fine to go in as long as you’re not disturbing anyone.
Didn’t have time to go to Yoro Falls or Gifu Station but I’d love to next time!
(If you’re sane, DONT GO ALL THE WAY TO THE SURUGAYA IN OGAKI ITS SO FAR OUT)
Also if you wanna get around Ogaki, you’re probably gonna be reliant on buses but they don’t come too often, maybe every 30 minutes to an hour. Although getting here just take the Shinkansen XD
As for location references I used the two links below:

My shoko art special (for you guys)
I noticed KyoAni hasn't been releasing much Shoko content lately😔😔😔, which always felt a bit bittersweet to me. That’s why I love sharing my drawings here, and your responses have been absolutely incredible♥️. Thank you so much for the awards, the upvotes, and the heartwarming comments♥️
Speaking of sharing, I wanted to tell you about a little dream project of mine. I'm currently planning to create a self-made 'light novel' style visual novel in Ren'Py using my own Shoko sprite sheets, where she gets to meet all of my other favorite characters! Please note that this is just a concept and a loose plan for now, as my real-life schedule is quite busy and packed. But I really wanted to share this idea with you guys as a token of my appreciation.
This community is amazing, and I’ll definitely keep drawing more for you guys! Thank you so much for the support. I'll use all of your support to draw more Shokos.♥️
