Kyivstar is expanding its roaming opportunity with a new travel eSIM

Kyivstar just launched “Travel SIM,” a standalone eSIM for mobile data abroad that works across 38 countries. The interesting part from an investor perspective: you don’t have to be a Kyivstar subscriber to use it.

The service offers 5GB, 10GB, 20GB and 40GB packages, with no recurring subscription fee. Users of other Ukrainian carriers can also purchase the eSIM, creating a potential opportunity for Kyivstar to monetize travelers beyond its existing subscriber base.

The eSIM can also operate alongside a user's existing SIM, allowing them to keep their Ukrainian number while using Kyivstar's eSIM for data abroad.

It's a relatively small product today, but worth watching as Kyivstar continues to expand its digital services and look for additional ways to monetize its network and customer relationships.

Kyivstar ($KYIV) & Ukrtelecom Sign Reciprocal Open Access Partnership to Scale Fiber Broadband

Kyivstar and Ukrtelecom announced a partnership to share their fiber-optic infrastructure across Ukraine using an Open Access model.

Instead of both companies spending capital building duplicate fiber lines in the same cities, they are opening up their networks to each other on non-discriminatory commercial terms:

  • Kyivstar: Gets access to Ukrtelecom’s GPON network to expand its Home Internet and fixed-mobile convergence packages.
  • Ukrtelecom: Leverages Kyivstar’s optical fiber network to expand its own Optical Internet services.
  • Roll-out Strategy: Phase 1 launches across the Odesa, Vinnytsia, and Kirovohrad regions, covering over 1 million residents, with plans for broader rollout in subsequent phases.
  • Capex Efficiency: This deal minimizes redundant buildouts, directly protecting free cash flow while keeping capital expenditure disciplined.

Official announcement:https://investors.kyivstar.ua/news-releases/news-release-details/kyivstar-and-ukrtelecom-launch-open-access-partnership

What are your thoughts on this strategy? Do you see reciprocal infrastructure sharing becoming the norm for Ukrainian telecom moving forward to accelerate market penetration? Win-win situation?

Uklon's new "Travel Bus" is a major strategic win for Kyivstar’s business ecosystem

Kyivstar Group (part of VEON Group and parent of Uklon) just released an investor update regarding Uklon’s launch of Uklon Travel Bus on July 20

The service will roll out with two international routes equipped with Starlink connectivity: (Kyiv-Warsaw and Odesa-Chisinau).

While it looks like a simple travel update, it’s actually a brilliant ecosystem play for Kyivstar:

"The launch of Uklon Travel Bus advances Uklon’s ongoing transformation into a comprehensive urban mobility and digital services ecosystem, spanning ride-sharing, delivery, advertising, and intercity travel."

This heavily supports Kyivstar's (and VEON's) long-term push away from traditional telecom revenues and expand their presence as a diversified digital services giant.

Kyivstar has evolved into a diversified digital conglomerate

Kyivstar has evolved into a diversified digital conglomerate. Its business lines are categorized into two primary segments: Core Connectivity (traditional telecom) and Digital Ecosystem (high-growth tech services).

Core Connectivity (B2C & B2B)

This remains the foundation of the company’s cash flow, serving over 22.5 million mobile customers.

  • Mobile Services: 4G voice and data, with a 5G pilot currently underway.

  • Home Internet: Fixed-line broadband serving over 1.2 million households. This was most recently expanded by the February 2026 acquisition of Shtorm, a regional ISP.

  • Starlink Direct-to-Cell: A strategic partnership providing satellite-based SMS and light data directly to standard mobile phones in areas with damaged infrastructure. It reached 5 million users as of March 2026.

Digital Services & Ecosystem

Digital revenue now accounts for nearly 16% of total revenue, growing more than sixfold in the last year.

  • Digital Healthcare (Helsi & Tabletki.ua):

    • Helsi: Ukraine's largest e-health platform for doctor appointments and digital records.
    • Tabletki.ua: Acquired in February 2026 for $160 million; it is the leading marketplace for medicine and healthcare products.
  • Mobility & Transport (Uklon): A major ride-hailing and delivery platform. In March 2026, it expanded its ecosystem to include intercity bus ticket purchasing.

  • Entertainment (Kyivstar TV): An OTT (Over-the-Top) television and video-on-demand service.

  • Fintech & Payments: Digital banking and payment solutions. Recently tested 4G-enabled POS terminals that function via Starlink, ensuring retail commerce can continue during blackouts.

Enterprise & B2B Solutions

Advanced services designed for corporate and government clients.

  • Big Data & Analytics: Leveraging network data for business intelligence and urban planning.

  • Cloud Solutions & Cybersecurity: Providing secure infrastructure and data storage for Ukrainian enterprises.

  • Sovereign AI (Gemma-based LLM): The development of a localized Large Language Model specifically for the Ukrainian language and context.

Energy & Infrastructure

A new strategic vertical focused on operational resilience.

  • Renewable Energy: Acquired SUNVIN 11 LLC in December 2025, a 12.9 MW solar power plant. This allows the company to hedge energy costs and power its own infrastructure independently.
