Discussion RELEVANCE OF LPN'S

HI Everyone, I am a PN nursing instructor writing an article regarding the relevance of LPN's in the field today. I would like to know where you live, work, and how long you've been an LPN. Also, what you like, love, or dislike about your working conditions and the nursing skills you are able to utilize and any new skills you are able to learn and implement in your job.

I love my PN students and do several clinicals and labs with them every cohort (2 per year) along with some classroom teaching. I want to bring the relevance of LPNs to a couple of organizations I belong to as well as a few publications to remind employers, facilities, hospitals, and offices that Practical Nursing is only 3 months less in education time than RN. PN can take the IV course, and yes, adhere to the LPN scope of practice for each state, but maybe that could be updated as well!

I look forward to any information you would share with me.

THANKS:)

MODS Hello Everyone! I have a public service announcement to make.

I'm glad that our community has grown and will continue to grow, we value all the contributions our members make but there is one issue we have.

This is a sub focused towards nursing, specifically LPNs/LVNs. Before giving the "get your RN", "just do the RN program" advice, I want you to read and understand context clues. If the posters content isn't asking about an RN program, or related to it in anyway, your comments will be removed.

I kickstarted this community because where ever I sought LPN advice, I was swarmed by these people. We don't do that here, there are plenty of other subs for it. Thank you for your participation.

Sincerely, your moderators <3

Discussion I took the entrance HESI today!

And I got a 93%!!

I wasn’t sure what to expect. I am in my late 30’s, worked in upper management in restaurants for the last 15 years and made good money but hated every living second of it. I got cancer at 37 years old and spending all the time in the hospital greatly inspired me towards a career shift. SO much life has happened in the last 3 years and my husband and I moved states (from IL to MI) and I desperately wanted out of the restaurant industry. Took a job as a unit clerk in the ER and realized I don’t have the time I used to to take 2 years of updated pre-reqs to apply to an ADN program. A coworker was going through LPN school and put me on to it. I start in December and I’m so excited!

I would love to stay in the ER but also would love to hear the unique job settings any of you work in as an LPN!

I’m sure I’ll be here a lot for the next 12 months!

Question TJC’s LVN to RN program. Do I have a chance to get in?

Has anyone applied or been previously accepted into the Tyler Junior College LVN to RN transition program? I applied for the Spring 2027 cohort with roughly 53.62 points (would have been 58.62 but I left 5 extra points on the table for not submitting a job description with my work experience form 🤦🏽‍♀️) and was curious to know if anyone knew what the cutoff was for the selection process? I got the minimum score of Level One for the ATI RN Fundamentals exam and a 69% on the Critical Thinking. I plan on applying to other programs in the Fall, but TJC seems so hard to find reviews on for the application period.

Looking for advice is LVN trade hard?

hi everyone this is my first time posting here but im seeking some advice as ive been overthinking a lot lately.

basically, i want to start a trade school for lvn through a program here in my city. the main concern for me though, is that i know it’s more fast paced and condensed classes compared to cc. i’ve never been the best at math and i do have test anxiety (overall anxiety in general) but i know if i apply myself i can do good.

im asking anyone who wasn’t the best in school but decided to do trade for lvn, was the material really hard and challenging? like did it feel impossible to learn? am i chasing something that won’t be worth it for someone like me? ive been really down and depressed and insecure about it, not because i dont know if i want to do this but because im scared ill fail out of it and disappoint myself and everyone around me. i keep going from “i can do this” to “am i doing the right thing?” i just really need some real advice from those with similar experiences to me.

Looking for advice Starting LPN/LVN school in a few days and I’m genuinely nervous — what should I expect?

I’m starting my first nursing program in a few days and the closer it gets, the more nervous I’m becoming.
I keep thinking:
“What if the material is way harder than I expect?” “What if I can’t keep up?” “What if everyone else understands everything and I don’t?” “How much am I actually supposed to study?” I know some of this is probably just anxiety because I don’t know what to expect. For people who have already been through LPN/LVN or RN school:What did your first week actually feel like? What surprised you? What was harder than expected? What was easier than expected? When did you realize, “Okay, I can actually do this”?And what advice would you give yourself the week before starting?

Looking for advice What am I doing wrong?application

Hello everyone so I’ve been in this community for some time but decided to post today, so I need help guys. For context, I’m a new grad LPN I passed my boards back in December 2025 and since then things have been a bit rocky for me.

Around April this year I got my first impatient job in the ER as a new grad. I was super excited and so ready to start working as a new grad in the hospital setting, which is what I wanted. I loved it at first everything was going well at my first job, the environment was OK and people there were nice for the most part and willing to help train me, but as I went through my orientation I noticed a few things that were unsafe. They have something called ESI that’s how they categorize patients based off their acuity level on how sick they are. The protocol was that LPN’s were not supposed to be given levels 1 and 2 which were the highest acuity in the ED but we were able to handle levels 3, 4, and 5’s.

With that being said during the end of my orientation, I noticed the environment becoming suddenly more busy and charge nurses assigning LPN’s, including me-levels 1 and 2’s, while I was on orientation. Of course I spoke up about this to management several times, but they brushed me off and this continued for months. Eventually I was reported by 2 of my preceptors for making 2 mistakes: none of which caused patient harm but rather unsafe situations, I won’t go into detail about them but i ended up just getting a verbal warning and some papers to sign about being on a corrective action plan that was supposed to last for 3 additional months- and was also being “slow” and need to work on my time management and critical thinking- eventually I resigned before the action plan ended, the paperwork just said it would last until the end of employment.

Honestly I think I just got burned out. It was too fast paced for me and I couldn’t take any breaks because I was on orientation the whole 5 months, management and I kept on extending it because we were noticing my confidence needed improvement and time management.

So now I have 5 months of ER experience, possibly a verbal warning in my record, I’ve applied for 6 Jobs so far and got rejected from all 6. I had 1 interview since I left and they told me it was a good fit for me but later rejected my application.. what do I do now? I’m thinking about removing the ER experience all together but I’m afraid there’s going to be a huge employment gap. Before the ER I was just working in fast food, no prior healthcare experience, and my manager was encouraging me to use her as a reference but what if she’s telling them stuff I’m not aware of like my flaws. I’ve tried applying outpatient to primary care, impatient, and now I’m starting with assisted living facilities. I’m just disappointed in myself and I’m willing to go back to school and just start All over again if I have to😢.

What should I do? Go back to school? Or keep applying? I’ve been without a job for 3 weeks now nearly a month. I’ve Got to help my parents financially somehow.

Vent Job Hunting

I'm having such a hard time with job hunting. I don't want to work at a SNF, I'm sick of being in those places but it seems I have no other choice. I live in SoCal and everywhere wants experience, no one wants a new grad nurse, I really wanted to work at a correctional facility but they won't give me the job due to no experience. I'm just really frustrated and feel like at this point I should suck it up and go to a SNF.

Discussion PCC LVN program

Has anyone taken the LVN program at PCC? I’m planning to apply for the 2027 cohort and would like to know about the program's difficulty, as well as the pass and graduation rates. Or would it be better to just apply to a private school?

Looking for advice Any Remote LPNs Here?

Hey everyone, I’m a working mom and an LPN with about 2 years of experience in LTC, substance abuse/detox, and primary care. I’m also currently in school, so I’m really trying to find something with more flexibility.

I’ve applied to so many remote positions and keep getting rejected. 😭 Does anyone know of companies hiring LPNs for PRN, part-time, contract, or flexible WFH roles? I’m open to nontraditional nursing roles too. Any recommendations or leads would really help!

Looking for advice Transition from Accounting to Nursing

I am a recent Accounting graduate from Nigeria, and I am planning to transition into Nursing, starting with an LPN program in Canada. I am currently interning as an Administrative Officer in a hospital, although the position is unpaid.

I am honestly quite worried about how to convince the visa officer that this career change is genuine and that my study plan makes sense, especially since my first degree is in Accounting. I am also concerned about the possibility of my study permit being refused.

Has anyone here gone through a similar situation, or knows someone who transitioned from Accounting (or another unrelated field) into Nursing and still got their Canadian study permit approved? I would genuinely appreciate hearing about your experience, advice, or any successful cases.

I really need some guidance on how to properly present my case.

I just recently graduated from my LPN program and passed my nclex and am now looking for jobs. The only issue is i’m trying to avoid any long term care facilities if possible. Naphcare is hiring near me for a correctional nurse position but i am a little nervous… has anyone had this as their first job or worked as a correctional LPN? what is it like? the pay they are offering is $34 which is pretty good for where I live but wondering if it’s worth it.

Looking for advice RPN to RN bridging in Algonquin college

Hi everyone,
I’m currently studying Practical Nursing at Algonquin College and I’ve completed my first year. My grades haven’t been as good as I hoped, so my GPA is currently lower than I wanted.
My goal is to bridge from Practical Nursing to the RN program after completing my diploma. I’m wondering if anyone here has gone through the Practical Nursing to RN pathway at Algonquin College.
If you have, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience:
• What was your GPA when you applied for the RN bridge?
• What GPA did you need to be competitive?
• Did Algonquin look at your cumulative GPA or specific course grades?
• If your first year GPA was low, were you able to improve it enough to get accepted?
• Did anyone start with a low GPA and successfully bridge to RN?
I’m worried because my first year didn’t go as well as I expected, but I still have more semesters to improve my grades. I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences.
Thank you!

Looking for advice LPN School With a Criminal Background — Looking for Advice

Hi everyone, I’m thinking about going to school to become an LPN, but I’m concerned about my criminal background.
I have a misdemeanor criminal trespassing conviction from 2023. I completed everything that was required of me, including paying my fines.
I also had a conversion/petty theft-related charge last year, but I was not convicted. I wasn’t arrested. I went to court, paid the required fines, and completed everything I was supposed to do. I was told the case will be dismissed as long as I stay out of trouble for the required period.
I’m wondering if anyone in Texas has gone through LPN/LVN school or gotten licensed with a similar background.
Could my 2023 misdemeanor conviction prevent me from getting into an LPN program or getting my nursing license? Should I contact the Texas Board of Nursing or do a Declaratory Order before enrolling?
I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has been through something similar. I’m trying to find out ahead of time before spending money on school. Thank you!

Advice/Tips Negotiating Pay

Hey guys, so I applied to a job recently and things are going great. I already made it through the second round of interviews and am supposed to get a call tomorrow about it except I messed up on one thing. When I got asked about the pay, I panicked and said 30 even though the listing said pay was 36-41. I want to bring it up with them somehow but my boyfriend said it could really hurt my chances and I really want this job. Is there any way I can go about it without ruining my chances??
