Dear Andy

It's been a while. Not since I voted labour. I've always done so, since joining half a lifetime ago, in the face of Plaid and the SNP, always have. But it's been a while since I cared.

It's been a while since i thought it represented the lesser of two evils - Gordon was the last person who i thought had a plan and a vision.

And i believed in Starmer and his unassuming way of doing politics - hell, i loved his way of being the technical leader someone professional always wanted to be in charge.

And you showed deep promise in being relational to the general public, but seem to have lost your way. From becoming flaccid on the water companies ruining our country for shareholders, to failing to have enough balls to really tackle youth unemployment - i'm sad to say you are not as good as you could be.

Dear Andy, as a young professional i know what it's like getting into a job, let alone one as competitive with such high turnover rates as PM. But grow some balls and ask yourself: are you the next FDR with bold, new, innovative policies for the working man? Or a new fleshlight for Deliotte? Because if you want to prevent reform, you better make sure you aren't the latter

Well his solution to NEETs is to give them half-baked unpaid work experience at Sainsburys. Sainsburys get Christmas temps without paying wages, and young people get a work experience no employer will value because they only value paid experience.

Also more than likely influenced by £145k donation from Lord Sainsbury - why else would the scheme be exclusive to his business and not the retail supermarket industry as a whole. Bargain price for 10,000 employees you don't need to pay wages for.

I'm not sold this is the only plan, just one of the deals. But if there are more deals they should release them all at once - not peacemeal

he’ll be gone for within 2 ish years for sure (probably losing the next election to reform). if he wanted to be radical he would have been already, it’s obvious he’s a failed centrist who’s not going to do anything just like starmer

I hold out hope, but he needs to not go the Ramsey MacDonald route and appease the conservative worldview - i'm not sure he can, but we will see

I think his only hope was doing Gary’s Economics /Gabriel Zuckmans wealth taxes - but he’s not going to do that so he’ll fail to improve anything significantly (and probably actively make some things worse)

I don’t know much about ramsey macdonald (just googled now).
but I know more about Atlee’s gov -that’s the type of prime minister we need (but don’t have )

To an extent, but also a fair line to walk. The main thing is: can he help us start our own businesses and improve useful education? Small companies are worthwhile, and so is fair taxation - but not to a fault. Labour taxed luxury yacht manufacturers in the 70's for making things for rich people - and production moved abroad, harming britain. We have to be intelligent about this

yeah that why we need wealth taxes , to allow normal people to be able to afford to buy the assets they need to start a business
it does need to be at the right threshold so it doesn’t hit working class people , but it won’t if it’s starts at 10 million in wealth (or a bit higher, maybe 50 or 100 million starting point)

and honestly I think we need to be less scared of some companies moving abroad so avoid being taxed, we either keep taxing them on their uk assets if they don’t sell them (but live abroad) which is perfectly doable , or they sell the assets before they leave - potentially at a loss for them if there really is a flood of rich people selling assets - actually presents a great business opportunity for working class people to buy some cheap UK assets to start a company with

and at the same time i’d lower taxes on working class people , lower income tax etc

but they’ll be taxed too, if they are wealthy they will now be paying the wealth tax

and that will either 1) discourage really rich people from buying even more assets , because for once they have some tax to pay like the rest of us or 2) they still go ahead and buy the assets , which is fine as long as they are paying their wealth taxes too

yeah the pandemic was a key time where wealth inequality increased I think , and where we needed wealth taxes to stop it

Very idealistic but there's a reason the duke of westminster still inherits after so many labour govts of varying strengths...

with the key exception of when Attlee’s labour gov post WW2 did large estate/inheritance taxes on the wealthy (which is a form of wealth tax) - the duke of westminster was forced to sell assets then I think to pay the tax - which if so is the policy working perfectly

thatcher cut these wealth taxes- we need them again

and obviously we need to remove all the exceptions the wealthy would try and use to avoid this stuff, tricky but totally doable

You say this, but labour are fucked, they are taking backhanders so Sainsbury's gets cheap labour.

Young people dont trust labout because they are saying yes to north oil, and Data Centers, while also making it near impossible to get a job.

Older people dont trust labour because the media tells lies, and labour never try and get ahead of the media.

And people dont trust labour because they failed to do their fucking job.

I am hopeful but not optimistic. His every move so far has been questionable - and i merely want him to grow some balls and stick to his princioles without buying into the idea 'high paid private market capitalist is the best person because i only understand value, not worth' - which he seems to be doing

You think the far right are only a thing because of one man? Labour have basically moved far enough right to take the tories space in the political spectrum, you might technically be right that reform won't win the next election but if it's not them then it will be a tory party that is basically as extreme as them.
