Trying to pick between two frames
Love the idea of the Barbarossa but the apocalypse rail seems like a big commitment. Just wanting to know how the hit rolls work. Is it one roll for the whole effect a hit for each enemy. Reading the level 1 profile it sounds like there is no avoiding it.
If it seems too unreliable I'll be looking into the Tortuga.
Edit: realise this question is actually about blast attack types not just the Apoc R

The rules for attacks are in the free rules on itch.io. It says: "A separate attack roll is made for each target, but damage is only rolled once"
Apocalypse Rail is widely considered to be a disappointing core power. If you fire it early, the damage is low for the action cost. It's also easy to interrupt, so if you try to wait for it to fully charge you likely won't get to fire it at all.

My current plan is build her, to be a sort of mid feild support rig. Drones, and other support action and some Overwatch capabilities. If I'm reading it right the support struts stop you from being able to move from hacking programs as well.

No, it does not protect you from any kind of movement.
However, as a feature of the Barbarossa, you cannot be moved by NPCs smaller than you. Including via hacking. That means that only 1 NPC can interrupt your charging unless multiple enemy mechs all try to grapple you at once.

I won’t lie, you’re gonna have some trouble getting close enough to overwatch on Barbarossa

Well I just realised I can take lls in other mechs so I'll probably grab the deck sweeper off Tortuga just make sure getting close is a bad idea

DSAS is very good but most enemies won’t be close to a Barb was my reasoning. It’s so slow and big that it’s hard to get to middle of the map before the sitrep is mostly over. And most melee enemies lack armour piercing AND can’t move it so they have no reason to be close to it regardless.

We've done some defence missions and the thing fits in my main weapon slot siege cannon in the heavy. Also going to run some drones to project power forward.

iirc, aoe attacks are rolled separately for each target, so you're likely to hit at least a couple people with the apocalypse rail aoe.
In my experience the barbarossa is a pretty easy frame for new players to play, I had a player in my group who played one the first couple of times he played and he loved it, he didn't mind being really slow and liked shooting the big gun (or guns) and the high durability combined with the fact that he was never mixed up in combat too much made him basically unkillable.
The tortuga may be a little harder to play, though certainly manageable, as you always need to keep in mind your reactions to get the full effect out of the frame. other than that you'll spend a lot more time at the head of the attack, so you probably will end up taking a lot of damage and want to invest in hull and probably some defensive systems like hyperdense armor or projected shield.
if these are the frames you're considering maybe also look at the drake

I’d probably test the Barbarossa a few times before ruling it out. Blast can be excellent into clustered targets, but it depends heavily on the attack type and how often you can meaningfully catch multiple enemies. If it needs too much setup, Tortuga may be the more dependable choice.

Have you read the rulebook yet? The free player rules are on the developer store at itch io.

Whenever your attack or effect can hit multiple targets, each one is an attack roll or individual save.
