it has been outright stated plenty of times that modern League is an action game while old League was more of a strategy game. And anyone who prefers the strategic side of the game is going to prefer Classic.

The real problem with Classic is that the matchmaking is dogshit, it is missing way too many champions, and again the matchmaking is dogshit. Putting first-time classic players into lobbies with people who have 100+ classic games, and then it resulting in a one-sided stomp almost every single game causes your fancy new mode to be dead on arrival.

Strategy my ass, if you want strategy open a game of starcraft 2 which is way more strategy. old league was only good because most player don't know what they were doing but had friends from their teenage years players with them. Unless riot actually have time magic no amount of fix they can do is going to bring that back

The sheer micro required to play starcraft 2 makes you look like a moron for even suggesting it as a strategy game lol

Classic is a better version of League than what is on live right now - they're both shit so thats a low bar but it still clears it. There is a reason that ARAM Mayhem is the most popular mode and nobody takes rank serious anymore

i mean there is another issue, which is that classic league is based on a time that was a: a long time ago, and b: when the game was pretty lacking in its own identity

like, who is going to play league classic over dota? it's just a less fleshed out, less balanced, less supported dota clone. modern league is thoroughly its own thing compared to dota, league back in the day was a rip off

people like me, who has never played dota and do not have the time to learn it from scratch now that im an adult. Compared to Classic, which I could easily pick up and know almost everything, even nuanced things like how specific items work and interact with specific champions. Because I have played it before.

It doesn't matter if old League was just dota, and that dota would be a better fit for players like me. What matters if that I played League already, and I don't need to learn something new to enjoy what I consider to be the better way to play MOBAs. (strategy>action)

At the end of the day Dota is tiny compared to league. It has a peak monthly player count of like 10 million. League has well over 120 million.
