De-Flock Leander website

The amazing folks working on this project for months and months have made this website outlining our city's relationship with Flock cameras.

I am so impressed by these incredible people and their hard work. I am also furious with our city and government for this egregious violation.

even if it gets voted off, Leander and Cedar Park have so many Flock cameras on private property they would be exempt from any voting/regulation via city government. I think everyone is moving in the right direction but to see them 100% gone is going to be an extremely unrealistic ask unfortunately

Well we can at least demand that our tax dollars dont go to privatized mass surveillance. I think that's a pretty solid start.

Legally, we can't do anything about the Flock cameras at Lowe's and Home Depot, or other cameras on private property. Boycotts can work. We should be supporting locally owned businesses as much as possible and the Ace Hardware in Leander is locally owned/operated.

In addition to de-Flocking Leander, we need to make sure the Police Chief and the city council don't sneak in Axon, Motorola Solutions (formerly Vigilant Solutions), or cell phone signal tracking devices (ISMI catchers) Cognyte's FalcoNet and Harris Corp's Stingray, or Leonardo' ELSAG SignalTrace. I'm sure there are others, but these are the big players in illegal gov't surveillance.

Currently, Wilco, Leander, and the surrounding cities use Flock and Motorola "ALPRs", Motorola body cameras, Axon body cameras, and DJI/Physical Sciences drones.

Absolutely! Our push is to get rid of all ALPR's. The surveillance issue is huge. Way bigger than Flock. This is just the first bite.

Great news for Pflugerville! Congrats to them. I don't have high hopes with Leander "leadership" however.

I'm actually optimistic. There is a lot of pressure on them at the moment and all of our neighboring cities are getting them taken down! I totally understand your sentiment though. It's disgusting that we are having to fight for our basic rights.

I sure hope we do but the demographics are very different and I can’t guarantee there are parts of Leander that feel they needs protection because they are the MC.
