Language Apps

I have a question for everyone who uses language apps.
What do you wish they did better?
It can be any app you have used. Maybe you wish they taught more useful vocabulary, explained grammar better, had more speaking practice, focused more on real conversations, or just felt less repetitive.
What is something that has frustrated you with language apps, or something you feel like most of them are missing?
I am curious what people would actually want to see improved.

Explanations of grammar. It is hard to just learn through osmosis! Also, I wish the apps (I use Duolingo, but I have also used Pimsleur and LingoLooper) used a slide mechanism to allow one to adjust audio to any desired speed. I have a hearing impairment and it is really hard to distinguish speech on digital audio even in my native English let alone in the French I'm trying to learn.

That’s so true! That is something I struggle with too. I am trying to learn Russian right now and not having that explanation of grammar makes it so difficult. It’s like just looking at random words not understanding when to use them or not. Having to use another resource is dumb when I feel like it would be very simple just to add a grammar center or something.

That’s also a really good point about the slider. Being able to slow it way down would be so helpful. Especially with a good native speaker! Being able to hear the little nuances of pronunciation could be game changing.

I really appreciate your feedback! What other ideas do you have? Those are two really good ones! Of course, if you’re willing to share more.

Just so you know I took your advice and implemented it in my app. I had already had the grammar center but I added the button so you can slow down the speech to a much slower level. All adjustable for the users preference 😁 I really appreciate the feedback!

I'd love if someone would come up with a new language app because they're aren't enough. Maybe using AI translation so it can automatically just work with all languages. I'm thinking like Duolingo but with a strong insistence that it's different.

I agree, there are a lot of language apps but not good language apps. They just sort of do one thing good. There isn’t one that does everything well. What about arcade games inside the app? So a lesson based app like Duolingo but with 30 arcade games(like brain training apps) a grammar center, actually teaches the alphabet?
