Welcome to /r/LeeEnfield! Please Read The Sidebar's Rules Before Posting.

All,

This will be pretty short. In brief, please familiarize yourself with the sub's rules for posting content that're in the sidebar. Posts that violate one or more of these rules may be given a warning for the submitter to fix, or they may be removed at once.

The goal of these rules is to keep this sub centered around the history, lore, technical knowledge, and any other arcana related to the Lee-Enfield family of rifles. Naturally a Martini-Enfield may make it's way onto the page, or we might talk about Lee-Metfords (they count, obviously), but if it wasn't made between 1888 to the late mid 1970's, odds are it doesn't belong here.

Every rule is there for a reason, we want to keep this sub's content relatively high-quality. Drive-by low-effort karma farms will not be permitted, nor will a commentless submission of half of a rifle in-frame. Don't ask where you can buy ammo, don't show us the one box of ammunition you paid too much for.

Once again, please re-familiarize yourself with the rules, and thank you for your time and attention.

No1 mk5 trials rifle stock

I’m trying to restore a sporterized no1 mk5 trials and I’m wondering if there’s a good way to source a stock for it? And if mk3 parts like nose cap would fit it. I know they wouldn’t be super historically accurate but I can’t find a mk5 one

Can I use this ammo in my Enfield?

My local shop has this case of long range 303 ammo designated for aircraft machine guns I believe. He said the plane painted on the box designates that. Inside the wooden crate is a sealed metal box. He offered it for I want to say $150? Which would be pretty cheap for 303 ammo. I’ve read that some of the 303 ammo is higher pressure and shouldn’t be shot from an Enfield rifle - only a Vickers machine gun. I have a No. 1 MKIII and don’t want to damage it. If anyone has ever cracked o e of these open or fired this ammo, I’d love to know!

Got a No4 Mk 1. On bottom near trigger guard is this symbol. Anyone know what it means? Looks like a cross of Lorraine.

No32 Scope Mount

Apologies for the pistol grip/stock, but this was purchased as a sporter No5 with a No32 original scope mount installed. Just want to get that out of the way as it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

I put a Leupold 3-9x44 scope on the original mount and had a chance to take it to the range to try and get a 50yard zero. The scope it came with was a busted old Tasco that didn’t work.

After walking the adjustment in a bit, I was able to plop that 4 round group in decent succession. I was completely out of vertical adjustment (60MOA total adjustment, so +/- 30MOA off centre) and was using the bottom of the top thick crosshair line as my POI. Judging from their reticle diagram, I’m about 10MOA or so out from zeroing the rifle with this scope.

The mount doesn’t have any adjustment seemingly and I’m hesitant to add shims inside the rings. Is there anything beyond getting a higher adjustment scope to fix this issue?

1918 SSA

Recently picked this up and didn’t realize it was an SSA no.1 Mk.3. Was interested in knowing how you’d be able to tell if something was original matching and if this is how they were blued originally. The only force matched parts is the rear sight which was swapped out for a windage adjustable sight with its knob broken off, everything else to my admittedly limiter knowledge of Enfields seems original matching with its original barrel. Unfortunately it is import marked but I’d like to know any other knowledge you guys could tell me, Thanks!

No 4 MK1 T

Recently started looking at this rifle and noticed some things that don’t make a whole lot of sense to me. It’s a 1945 N.4 Mk1 but it has scope attachment points as well as a TR marking under the the date and above the serial X30029. These things make me think it’s a Mk1 T but it is missing the T stamped next to the extractor screw as well as any markings on the Butt stock

X30029 is seen on the bolt carrier, bolt, fore stock and wrist of the rifle

TDLR
TR on wrist of rifle and scope mounting points but no T by ejector screw

1950 Ishapore No.1 Mk.III*

Brought out the strobes to photograph my 1950 Ishapore No.1 Mk III*. Matching receiver, barrel, fore-end, nose cap and magazine; mismatched bolt. Figured some of you might appreciate a proper portrait of the old girl.

Just bought my first Enfield for $500, gun itself is a No.4 Mk1 but the bolt appears to be N67 Mk2. Is that why the bolt is hard to action smoothly since its not matching, or should I do a basic clean and lube just to be safe?

I made this niche video for my niche community on my hobby channel. Does the green strip mean it went to Australia? Does anyone have any clues about the markings on this rifle? Thank you!

Lee Enfield No4 MK2 Irish Contract

Hello this is my first Lee Enfield, was fortunate to run into a new friend at a local show who kept this one in his vehicle as a backup sale. From what he told me and what I’ve read up myself now this was made for Irish contract. Matching numbers on the rifle as well as scabbard & bayonet. Mint mirror bright bore. Also included a can of ammo in bandoliers I’m told is noncorrosive. $800 for gun and $250 for ammo can.

Need help trying to fix the safety.

Post image

Went shooting yesterday and after a while, the safety partially engaged the bolt after my last shot. Stopped to inspect my rifle and noticed something off with my safety. It looks like one of the pins that give retention to the safety fell out and couldn't find it on the desert floor.

Took one test fire after and noticed that upon firing, the recoil forces the safety to shift slightly back, partially engaging the bolt. So now I'm trying to find a way to fix this but I don't know where to start.

Help with markings/stamps on 1918 SMLE No. 1 Mark III

This rifle has been in a case for the last 15 years after my father passed away. I didn't know anything about it, and never chose to look into it until recently. I don't know how long he owned it, or if he ever fired it, but he did have a few boxes of British .303 ammunition. I'm including pictures of all of the stamps and markings that I noticed while cleaning the rifle.

I've been more of a handgun fella, so I don't know if I'd ever take this rifle out to shoot, especially not knowing it's recent history. I will say that it's very intriguing to know more about it's origins and such.

Thanks in advance for any information and/or advice.

P14 Winchester (No.3 Rifle)

Hi everyone, I've got this old rifle. Bit of info I have: It's got a mint bore on it, matching serials. I've never fired it though. I have the front trigger guard screw to replace the sling swivel (maybe some previous owner did service rifle shooting or some other reason they wanted a swivel there)?. Looks to me like someone has (varnished?) the stock at some point? Would you guys strip it with acetone and re-treat it with boiled linseed oil or leave it as it? The stock has some dings in it so not sure if it was ever sanded or not? Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated! Anyone have any opinions on value and collectablity? I don't know a heck of alot about these rifles so please feel free to share what you know! Thanks lads

Savage Enfield Help (Reupload)

Hello all,

This is a Reupload of my initial post (some of the photos didn’t upload). I recently picked up this Savage No 4 Mk1* from my LGS for $750 out the door. I am new to enfields and I am curious to see what I have. What year was this made, what’s its likely story, and how would you rate the overall condition? For reference, the bore seems decent, no obvious issues, serial is 0C18060, bolt and receiver serials match, has the “S” marking on receiver, and barrel bands, and an “England” stamped on the receiver’s right side. Excuse the repost, I am a novice redditor.
