Legal Advice Needed Got physically assaulted by wife and in-laws in Bangalore

Hi guys, sharing a really painful 1.5 year long story of my marriage. Will try to keep it very concise.

Got married early last year. From the start itself, there were a lot of arguments as she was mostly driven by what her parents and friends were saying. And they rarely said anything good despite not knowing the full picture. She used to call me bhikari on multiple occasions because I don't have a house or a car (which she knew before marriage) and she hated cabs/auto and can fight full day for not sitting it in. But still there were some good things.

But things kept going down the hill pretty fast. I am quite attached to my mom. So either she used to visit or either I used to take her to my hometown a bit frequently. On her second visit, she asked her to leave as that disturbs our privacy. She said she is okay with me visiting my parents. So we complied. After 2 months of staying here, I used to go for around 3 weeks to my hometown. Now that might seem a lot to some folks, but I truly want to be with and take care of aging parents. For this reason, I never went to US for job though I had plenty of options.

When I went for these 3 weeks last year, she was ridiculing, humiliating, abusing me the entire time. Even blamed something so disgustful as incest. Called me bhikari, ra*ist, impotent, dowry seeker, greedy, etc. and every bad thing you can think of. Even faked pregnancy to traumatize me. She was okay with me going for 2 weeks, so I started going to my hometown for 1.5 weeks after a month. She still had lots of problems with that.

I though things would improve slowly when I return. It did a very little bit, but arguments above finance splitting, going home, my sleep problem (which I don't have actually, she just happened to see my 6 yo report where I went to a psychologist for sleep medicine due to stress, falsely assuming medicines have been continuing since then) were rampant. She won't mind humiliating me at a public place.

I kept thinking things would improve. Stupid me. Or I was just avoiding/delaying the problem of court cases, possible alimony, fake cases, miserable life for years, etc. This was also miserable but thought is less miserable than that, and it might improve over time.

This time I went, she was initially talking okay, no connection or love but just okayish arguing as usual. For instance, picking a call 1 hour after she called is a big issue, but she might ignore my call for 6+ hours for work, and I should be perfectly fine with it. But later during my visit, I caught dengue, and had fever for long and weakness for longer, so I had to stay back for longer. In the last one week, she started asking me to leave the place and find a new house. Btw, this house is rented, and we mostly pay half of everything (2 times I paid full). She regularly fought with me for splitting with her and not paying entirely by myself (I find it odd since she earns equal or more than me). But later during the stay, first she dissappeared for 2 days without any response (I used to call her everyday), and then started asking me to leave. I said why should I only leave when I searched and setup most of it. Ideally we both should leave as the rent agreement is also on both our names. Reason she was giving was she didn't want to stay with me, and felt unsafe, which is weird again as I never hurt her even after her saying such things.

Later when I came back she stayed for 2 days without talking much. She then went to her homeplace (in bangalore only) for rakhi, and returned yesterday on Monday.

As soon as I entered into my room, her parents appeared initially asking to talk normally. When I said they shouldn't stay here as they were arguing, her father started yelling like anything and pushing and beating me up. Later she and her mother also joined in hitting me on the head repeatedly. I was crying with pain, but they still continued. They took my phone and also broke it entirely, so I couldn't call anyone. Blocked me in a room so that I don't get out. When I tried to, her father wrapped his arms around my neck very tightly and didn't leave for quite sometime. It was paining like hell and causing me shortness of breath still. Her father also was planning to hit me with a wiper but later stopped. Later they called police trying to make sure they complain first about me, and made me say everything is good in front of them. Police did scold me a bit, but didn't do much and left, even took my side on occassions. After that, I was allowed/forced to leave my house. I left and came to a temporary PG with nowhere to go.

They were scared that I will file an FIR, so they asked me multiple times if I plan to file a complain. They even offered no alimony, no FIR, no problem if I also don't file FIR. My parents later called them as they were angry, so they might have thought an FIR is going to happen. Not sure.

Anyway, I went to the hospital to get myself checked up, sighting physical assault as the reason, so there is a police record. Police called me to take my statement, and wanted to know if I want to file a complaint. I said I will decide after consulting my lawyer.

I am writing this to ask you guys on what path should I follow now? I will go to doctor today again for additional CT scans/tests, if nothing comes out, should I drop the plan of FIR, and use this to get a clean exit? Or should hold them accountable for all the hell they have put me through the years through this incident? Really appreaciate any guidance here. Thank you so much in advance!

MY FRIEND ALMOST COMMITTED $UICIDE YESTERDAY!!! I BEG YOU!!! PLEASE HELP ME SAVE HER!!!! šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™

THIS IS AN EXTREMELY SERIOUS AND IMPORTANT POST! PLEASE ONLY COMMENT IF YOU HAVE ANY SOLUTION TO THE ISSUES!

My friend who's my senior as well, is into deep trouble! She's stuck in a hell hole! She needs help asap! Idk what to do! Yesterday she almost committed $uicide....

She lives in another city... I'm a student... I can't help her much... I can just give her emotional support rn...

Her father has SAed her multiple times throughout her life, thrown her out of her house for prolonged periods of times...

He's a tyrant. An insane criminal! Her mother has auto immune disease...

Her father beats the shit out of everyone! When my friend finally stood up and begged her mother to take divorce for her own treatment and health, her father quit his government job because he didn't want to give a single penny after divorce to her mother and her...

My friend has a Masters Degree from the best Research Uni in India in her research field....

But the thing is, research in India is cooked rn... And there are no jobs out there!

RA positions don't pay much and she can't survive on that! She doesn't have any place to live rn!

She needs atleast around 60k in hand to survive in a city all alone, take care of her mother's bills and save for her PhD......

Everyday.... More than half of her day is wasted due to panic attacks...

She has worst pcod, she bleeds a ton, she has a fucked up mental health, severe anxiety, anxiety induced ibs-d, anxiety induced nausea 24/7 and she's been suicidal all her life!

Her siblings hate her...

All her relatives have SAed her atleast once in her life.......

She cannot ask anyone help because she's sacred they'll SA her too....

She's been crying forever now....

Idk what to do....

She's scared of asking for help from anyone!!! She's traumatized!!!!

Her fears are legitimate too!

She thinks if she asks for help, they'll end up SA her! (New people too)

Her Nana, Uncle, Cousin bro everyone have SAed her!

I've lost count of people who've SAed her!

Her father has choked her multiple times until she's gone unconscious when she resisted getting SAed and then he has SAed her.............

Her own biological bro has SAed her.........

Her sis knows everything and doesn't wanna help! Her mother is a patient...

She has no relatives who can help her.... Her cousins have SAed her....

We live in India.... Women will never be taken seriously in our households....

She needs help from the community.......

The worst part about this is.... She has hell alot of self respect too.....

Whenever I force her to ask for help.... She tells me she won't.... She doesn't wanna use her sad story to gain sympathy etc etc...

This isn't a sad story.... This is a question of her life..... She's gone mad or something......

She still cooks and cleans for her family even with all this....

She does her younger bro's assignments and homeworks while he's busy with his gf....

The same bro who has SAed her.... She takes care of her father too.... The same father who has SAed her....

She's the most empathetic human being I've ever come across....

Empathy ki Devi!!!!!!

But in return.... She's got nothing..... Everyone has always killed some part of her to gain something from her!

She's slightly autistic too.... That turns everything into a bigger nightmare!

Can anyone help her find a job and a therapist who can help her out free of cost???

Please! I beg you! šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™I beg you!!!

If we don't do anything.... She's gonna die fs....

Her panic attacks are uncontrollable! (I have alot of experience with Panic attacks! My own sis has it... I've had it too! I can say this confidently... Her panic attacks are on another levelll)

Please help her out! Please!

Anything is fine.... Something related to her field.... Teaching at coaching institutes, Research Assistant roles, or anything of that sort!

She doesn't have a place to live, doesn't have money to travel, doesn't have money for anything rn....

Please! Please! Please help her out!!!!!

I've missed out on alot of info.... She's been through much worse things.... I can't think alot now.... My hands are literally shaking while typing this....

Please help her out.... šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™

Legal Advice Needed Manager withheld my salary and is threatening to ruin my career/fail my BGV after I rejected a ₹10 Lakh bond retention offer. Served full notice period. Need Legal Advice!

Hi everyone,

I am in deep financial and mental distress due to extreme retaliation from my current employer (a local outsourced vendor agency in Pune) because I refused their internal counter-offer. I need urgent advice regarding my legal rights and next steps.

The Situation:

  • I submitted my formal resignation via email on 20th July 2026 to serve my contractual 60-day notice period.
  • My manager officially accepted my resignation on email, writing: "We wish you all the very best. Please make sure to finish your remaining work in the office ONLY."
  • Based on this standard acceptance, my official Last Working Day (LWD) is locked for 18th September 2026 (only 16 days left). I have a confirmed offer from a premium International MNC with a joining date of 21st September.

The Fraud & Retaliation:
Last week, when my manager realized I was firmly leaving, they tried to trap me by forcing a strict 18-month service bond on stamp paper with a ₹10 Lakh penalty clause. They claim I am breaching an "18-month commitment" mentioned in some internal offer summary, but I have NEVER signed any bond paper or contract regarding this.

When I politely refused to sign this stamp paper legal trap, the management went completely hostile:

  1. Salary Withheld: They have completely stopped/withheld my August salary. Everyone else in the company got paid on time. They are openly threatening not to pay for September's 18 days either. I am completely out of money right now.
  2. Document Blackmail: The local HR and manager have explicitly told me that they will NOT issue my Relieving Letter or Experience Certificate because I refused their retention offer.
  3. BGV Threats: My manager literally told me: "We will spoil your career and fail your background verification. You made a mistake by rejecting our retention offer."
  4. Asset Handling: They ordered me not to take the laptop home, so I am strictly leaving the company asset secure on my office desk at the end of every single workday.

My Evidence Stack (Saved Outside Office Network):

  • Original resignation email with timestamp (20th July).
  • Manager’s official reply explicitly saying "We wish you all the very best" and accepting the transition.
  • Every single week's Approved and Signed Timesheets proving I am regularly working from the office during my notice period.
  • Bank statement proving my salary was intentionally stopped while others were paid.

My Plan So Far:
I have already proactively updated my upcoming MNC employer’s HR with a Proactive Disclosure Email, attaching the screenshots of my resignation acceptance email and bank statement to explain the situation. They are highly supportive and willing to accept alternative onboarding/BGV proofs.

My Questions to Experts & HRs here:

  1. Since I NEVER signed any bond, can they legally claim a "bond breach" based on some unsigned text or summary?
  2. Can a company legally withhold salary and refuse documents when I am serving the exact 60-day contractual notice period?
  3. Is the manager's email text "We wish you all the very best" enough to prove in a labor court that my resignation was officially accepted?
  4. How should my lawyer proceed with sending a tight Labor/Legal Notice to this company on 18th September to recover my stuck funds and damages?

I haven't slept for the last 2 days due to this immense mental torture. Any guidance would mean the world to me. Thank you!

Legal Advice Needed Priest (Poosari) at a local temple sexually harassed my girlfriend under the guise of "precautionary advice" — How to proceed legally?

Hi everyone, posting here to get legal guidance on an incident that happened recently in Tamil Nadu.

My girlfriend and her mother visited a local temple (Padavettamman Temple Arch, near Bharathiyar 2nd St) to seek spiritual support regarding family issues. During the visit, the priest (poosari), named Kumar, pulled her aside under the pretext of offering spiritual guidance and "precautionary advice" so her life wouldn't turn out like her mother's.

He then proceeded to ask explicitly inappropriate, sexually intrusive questions, including:

  • Asking if she has a boyfriend.
  • Asking if she has slept with him.
  • Asking intrusive details about how often they make out.

She was deeply uncomfortable and traumatized by this behavior. We have his name, phone number, and exact location, and we want to take strict legal action to ensure this asshole faces consequences and doesn't do this to other women.

My questions for the sub:

  1. What are the best sections under the new criminal law (BNS) to invoke? (We are considering BNS 75 for sexual harassment and BNS 79 for insulting the modesty of a woman).
  2. Should we approach the local All Women Police Station (AWPS) directly, or file an online complaint first?
  3. Since I am her boyfriend, can I lodge the initial complaint on her behalf, or does she strictly have to be the primary complainant for an FIR to be registered?
  4. If this temple falls under/near HR&CE or a local trust, what administrative steps should we take to get him removed?

Any advice from lawyers or people who have dealt with similar situations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Legal Advice Needed Legal advice needed: Axis Bank lost my ₹10 Lakh Demand Draft, deducted ₹5,900 without consent, and escalations to PNO have failed.

Hi everyone, I’m in a deeply stressful situation with Axis Bank regarding a Demand Draft for a significant amount, and I desperately need advice on my legal options.

Here is the timeline of events:

Aug 17: I requested a Demand Draft for ₹10,00,000 via the Axis Bank mobile app to fund a house purchase. I explicitly chose my communication address (Noida) for delivery, even though my home branch is in Kolkata. The ₹10 Lakhs were deducted from my account the exact same day.

Aug 20: Having received no intimation for three days, I got a call from my Kolkata branch asking me to come and pick the DD up. I explained that I had selected the Noida delivery option. The branch staff said she would look into it, and then promised to dispatch it via post and share the tracking details.

The Unauthorized Charge: In the meantime, Axis Bank deducted an exorbitant ₹5,900 as "charges". These charges were never mentioned anywhere on the mobile app during the request, and I did not tick any box or give consent for this deduction.

Aug 25 (Day 8): This was the maximum timeline customer support told me to wait. I still received no tracking info and no DD. Customer care had absolutely no clue where it was and claimed the branch wasn't responding to their queries. Because I was out of time for my property purchase, I had to borrow ₹10 Lakhs from a friend to save the deal.

Aug 26 (Day 9): I raised the issue to the Nodal Officer. No response for 3 days.

Aug 29: I escalated the complaint to the Principal Nodal Officer (PNO).

Current Status: For the last 4-5 days, I have only been receiving automated "we will get back to you" emails from the PNO office.

I am completely mentally exhausted. I spent hours on hold with customer care, being tossed from one department to another, to the point where I have stopped calling entirely. I am now communicating exclusively via email to save myself from the stress and to maintain a paper trail.

Axis Bank is currently sitting on ₹10,05,900 of my money, and there is zero visibility on where my physical draft is.

My questions for the lawyers and financial experts here:
RBI Ombudsman vs. Consumer Court: I know the RBI Banking Ombudsman requires waiting 30 days from the initial complaint. Given the massive amount and the complete deficiency of service, can I approach the Consumer Court (District Commission) immediately, or do I have to wait?

Compensation: What is a realistic compensation I can demand for the mental agony, the interest lost on my ₹10 Lakhs, and the reversal of the unauthorized ₹5,900 charge?

Next Immediate Steps: Should I send a formal legal notice now while I wait for the 30-day RBI Ombudsman window to open?

Draft Cancellation: Should I instruct the bank to cancel the draft and refund the money to my account, or wait for them to find it? If it's lost in transit, what is my liability and the procedure to get my money back?

Any guidance would be deeply appreciated. This has become a massive source of stress and I just want my money back. Thank you.

Legal Advice Needed Bank auto-debited ₹436 (PMJJBY) & ₹20 (PMSBY) without consent. Manager refused refund, claimed consent in account opening form. Options?

(Note: I used AI to help compose this post and fix my broken english so I could explain everything clearly.)

Hey everyone, looking for legal and procedural advice on handling unauthorized bank auto-debits for government insurance schemes.

Timeline & What Happened:

26th Aug: ₹436 (PMJJBY) and ₹20 (PMSBY) were debited from my savings account (Total ₹456). I visited the branch the same day. A local village acquaintance working there assured me he would get me opted out and refunded.

1st Sept: After waiting a week with zero resolution, I returned to the branch with a formal complaint letter to meet the Branch Manager directly.

Branch Interactions & Excuses:

1. Lower-Rank Staff Mocked the Issue: Before meeting the manager, a junior bank employee tried to dismiss my concern, mocking me by saying it’s a very small amount and lecturing me to keep it because of all its "great benefits."

2. Cut Off the Manager's Sales Pitch: When I met the Branch Manager, he immediately tried selling me on the policy benefits too. I politely but firmly cut him off on the spot—I told him I didn't care about the benefits because this money was taken without my consent.

3. The "Account Opening" Consent Lie: Once I shut down his pitch, he pivoted and claimed, "You gave consent when you opened your account—it's mentioned right on the front page of the opening form you signed."

4. Brushed Off Complaint Letter: He didn't outright reject my letter, but brushed it off saying, "Don't worry, this letter won't be necessary, chill out, don't take stress." This was a clever way to avoid accepting or putting an official branch stamp on my receiving copy.

5. Refused Refund & Offered Only Verbal Opt-Out: He claimed he can’t guarantee a refund because the funds were already sent to a third-party insurance company, and only verbally promised he opted me out for next year with zero written/system proof.

Looking back, during account opening, staff had me sign a single pinned form stack and asked for several OTPs. I trusted them blindly at the time—a mistake I'll never make again. But even if they secretly slipped consent into an account opening bundle or used OTPs without explaining, isn't that illegal?

Few questions for you guys:

1. Can they really hide insurance consent in the account opening form? Doesn't RBI rules strictly say banks need a separate, standalone consent form signed for these schemes? Is pre-ticked or hidden consent even valid legally?

2. What exact RBI circulars can I throw at the manager? I want specific rules or circular names about unauthorized debits so I can quote them to his face and stop getting brushed off.

3. What paper/proof should I ask for at the branch? If I force him to accept my letter, what kind of official system slip or de-enrollment receipt can I demand besides getting my copy stamped?

4. Should I go to the branch one last time or just go online? Is it worth trying the branch manager tomorrow with a fresh letter, or should I just skip him and file a complaint directly on PNB's portal / RBI CMS? Also, what do I do if he dodges stamping my letter again?

Appreciate any advice or shared experiences from anyone who got their money back!

Urgent I booked a scooter from a woman (agent), paid ₹1.1 lakh, and now she is neither delivering the scooter nor refunding my money. What should I do?

I booked a scooter from a woman on 9 August 2026 because I didn't have time to visit in person. I got her contact through a reference/connection of my maternal cousin through mobile.

She promised to deliver the scooter by 14 August 2026. I paid the full amount of ₹1,10,000 through GPay/PhonePe, but she did not provide me with any receipt.

After receiving the payment, she kept giving me different excuses and dates, saying things like ā€œI’ll give it today/tomorrowā€ and ā€œthe vehicle has already been dispatched.ā€ Eventually, 25 August came, but I still didn't receive the scooter.

I also asked her to send me photos/documents showing what had been done with my application, but she hasn't provided those either.

The biggest issue is that she refuses to give me her address. I have repeatedly asked for it, but she keeps avoiding the question.

I then asked her to refund my ₹1.1 lakh. She agreed and kept promising different dates. She said she would return the money by 31 August, but that date has also passed and I still haven't received anything.

I have:

GPay/PhonePe payment proof

Call recordings of our conversations

WhatsApp/chat history

Proof of the promises she made regarding delivery/refund. She mailed me

At this point, I am worried that I may have been scammed.

What should I do now? Should I file a police complaint/cybercrime complaint or send a legal notice first? Is there any way to recover the ₹1.1 lakh?

TL;DR: I booked a scooter online on 9 August and paid ₹1.1 lakh via GPay/PhonePe. She promised delivery by 14 August but kept delaying it and now refuses to provide the scooter or refund my money. She also refuses to share her address. I have payment proofs, chats, and call recordings. What should I do now?

Legal Advice Needed How to legally and mentally protect myself and my family from an abusive wife?

Was a long distance relationship turned marriage. Wife has history of bpd (borderline personality disorder) which I came to know about only after marriage

Before that I merely knew she was depressed and attempted suicide due to failed love. Sometimes she spoke sweetly and that attracted me to her. I thought she would be all right after marriage.

But right from the first day, I hv endured constant abuse and infringement of my rights.

She will have frequent episodes when she would simply lose her mind, through abuses and threaten to kill herself.

Otoh I. M a sensitive person

Except on few occasions there has been no intimacy between us and she's the one denying me that.

She's asking for divorce but I fear she will harm herself if I give one.

Both her parents are old and unable to help me in this.

I even took her to psychiatrist but she refuses to take medicines.

How can I legally and mentally protect myself and my family from her?

Legal Advice Needed Getting threat call from cyber police after a year of complaint

Background

About a year ago, my cousin worked for a person involved in cyber fraud (money mule operations where fraudulent money is deposited into third-party accounts, withdrawn as cash, and a commission is kept).

My cousin took my Slice bank account, telling me he needed it for cyber cafƩ business transactions.

I had no idea about any fraud until the police came to arrest my cousin.

The main mastermind is currently in jail, my cousin spent a few days in jail as well, and the investigation for that case is still ongoing.

The Notice & The Call

Cut to this year: About a month ago, I received a notice from the Jharkhand Cyber Police regarding the fraud committed through that account.

Yesterday, I received a phone call from someone claiming to be the Investigating Officer (IO) named in that notice.

The person on the call demanded ₹1 Lakh, saying: "Mujhe mere paise chahiye 1 lakh rupaye." (I don't even know how much money was actually stolen or moved).

The caller sounded very unpolished/unprofessional, speaking in a heavy rural/dehati dialect.

The Threat

I explained the entire situation to him—that I never held the funds, the account was handled by my cousin, who worked for the main accused currently in jail, and that the matter is already under active investigation.

He replied that I must come to Jharkhand and state this in front of a judge, threatening: "Nahi aaoge toh bohot bura hoga, hum wahan aa gaye toh..."

I clearly told him that I am a college student residing in Delhi and cannot travel to Jharkhand. I requested that since he is a police officer, he should formally notify the Delhi Police, and I will gladly give my complete, truthful statement before the local police here.

Despite this, he kept repeating aggressively that if they come to Delhi it will be very bad for me and that "humari nazar mein toh tum hi doshi ho," before hanging up.

Legal Advice Needed Need legal advice: Should I accept a house with disputed ownership or ask for an equal partition of all property? (20M, India)

Okay guys, I'm posting this in this sub to understand the legal aspects and future implications of my situation. I'm only 20, and all of this is completely new to me. I'd really appreciate some guidance.

Context

My mother has two sisters (three sisters in total). All three are married, and there are no brothers.

Now there are discussions about dividing my grandmother's (Nani's) property into three parts.

Properties involved

  • City house: Approx. ₹20–25 lakh (this is the house where my Nani currently lives).
  • Village farmland: Around 8.5 bighas, currently valued at roughly ₹50–55 lakh, and it also generates yearly income.

Proposed division

My Nani wants to give the city house to me (as my mother's share) and divide the village farmland equally between my two Masis.

On paper, this looks like an equal distribution, and my Nani is insisting on this arrangement.

Where the problem starts

While checking the property papers, I found out that the house registry has three names—my Nana and his two brothers. That means the house wasn't solely in my Nana's name.

All three brothers have passed away, and the other two families don't live in this house anymore.

My biggest concern is this: What if, years later, those families come and claim their legal share?

How can the house legally be transferred to my name if the original co-owners—or their legal heirs—haven't signed anything?

Will I actually become the legal owner, or will I end up inheriting a future legal dispute?

My Masis say it won't be an issue because my Nani has been paying the house tax and electricity bills for the last 15 years. But I'm not convinced that paying bills automatically gives ownership.

Why I'm hesitant

The farmland is fertile, earns yearly income, and there are talks about future government projects nearby, so its value could increase significantly.

More importantly, I'm already dealing with one major legal case.

My father passed away in a car accident two years ago, and we're still fighting a MACT insurance case, which may take another couple of years. I'm honestly not in the financial or emotional position to take on another court battle.

What I'm confused about

This is where I need legal advice.

Should I move forward with my Nani's proposed arrangement, where I receive the city house and my two Masis receive the farmland?

Or would it be legally safer and more sensible to ask for both the house and the farmland to be partitioned equally into three shares, so each sister gets a one-third share in every property instead of one person getting an entire property?

I'm trying to think long-term. I don't want to create unnecessary family conflict, but I also don't want to inherit a property that could become a legal headache later.

TL;DR

  • I'm 20 and my Nani wants to give me a ₹20–25 lakh city house while my two Masis split 8.5 bighas of farmland worth around ₹50–55 lakh.
  • I discovered the house registry is in the names of my late Nana and his two late brothers, so ownership may not be clear.
  • My family says house tax and electricity bills paid by my Nani for 15 years are enough, but I'm worried the other legal heirs could claim a share later.
  • I'm already dealing with a MACT case after my father's death and don't want another legal dispute.
  • Should I accept this arrangement, or insist that both the house and the farmland be divided equally into three legal shares?
  • All Property is Ancestral ..

Legal Advice Needed Can my aunt's cousins make any claim on her properties if I exist?

I feel like shit just to ask this, but it is important given the kind of relatives I have.

My aunt (my mother's real sister) has 2 self-acquired properties. A flat in Mumbai and land in Ratnagiri. She is unmarried and has no kids. My mother (eldest) is declared the nominee in both. The properties were bought when I was 5 years old.

My aunt wants me to inherit them. She has already given me all the original property papers and documents. But she is unwilling to create a will or deed due to superstition.

This was all well and good till now.

Then comes their cousin's family. They have swindled us 2 times in the past for money, and my family kept helping them because of naivety.

These people are slimy bastards, and I have a strong gut feeling that they are after the property (hissa) after her death because they once accidentally blurted "our house" out loud. Only I noticed, but I didn't react.

My question is: In the absence of a will, can their cousin family make any claims over the property, or will I be the sole legal heir? Since they don't have any direct relation to my aunt.

I'm attaching a picture of our family tree for clarity: Family Tree Link

I highlighted myself and my aunt in blue and that cousin in orange in the above image.

Legal Advice Needed Police booked a petty case against me after late-night unloading at my rented commercial godown – what are my rights? (Hyderabad, India)

I run an event-related business and use a godown that I rent legally for storing and handling equipment.

Recently, around 1–2 AM, we were unloading equipment from a vehicle at the godown when two police constables came there.

They asked for my name, my father's name and my mobile number, which I provided.

This was not their first visit. Police personnel had previously come to the same location on two occasions for what appeared to be the same issue. They also asked whether someone had called or complained.

What concerns me is that this is a commercial area, not a residential locality. The surrounding area has function halls, workshops and other commercial establishments. On the same night, there was even a wedding taking place at a function hall opposite my godown.

I did not receive any clear explanation at the time about what specific offence I was allegedly committing.

However, I have now received a WhatsApp/SMS-style notice claiming that Gudimalkapur Police Station has booked a petty case against me and directing me to attend the IV Special Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Manoranjan Complex in Hyderabad at 8:00 AM.

The message also asks me to bring photocopies of my Aadhaar card, RC and driving licence. It contains a police contact person's name and number, as well as a case number.

My questions are:

  1. What offence could potentially apply in a situation like this? Is unloading event equipment late at night in a rented commercial godown itself enough to constitute a petty case?

  2. Can police repeatedly visit a rented commercial premises at night and collect personal details without clearly explaining the alleged violation?

  3. Am I entitled to know the exact section of law and the specific allegation before attending court?

  4. How can I independently verify whether this case number and court appearance notice are genuine?

  5. If the case is genuine, what normally happens in a petty case hearing in Hyderabad?

I am not trying to avoid the law or obstruct the police. I am simply confused because this happened at a rented commercial godown in an area surrounded by other commercial establishments, including function halls that operate late at night.

Any advice from lawyers or people familiar with petty cases and criminal procedure in Telangana would be appreciated.

Legal Advice Needed Is it important to go to court as a witness in a case against the peddler for weed ? No summons but a call frm the station informing the next court date.

Case was registered almost a year ago got a call last month informing the next court date and that first court date was never informed either.

Have no information of the case or fir or any formal paper.

Also was forced to sign as a witness. To get out of a situation with the police at that point.

Was told that time of signing that it's okay not to go to court if called.

What to do ?

Really don't want to involve further.

Legal Advice Needed Lawyer demanding large additional payment for death certificate and allegedly threatening elderly client; what legal remedies are available?

I’m looking for general legal guidance regarding a situation involving two advocates in West Bengal. I would especially appreciate advice from anyone familiar with Indian criminal law, consumer law, or professional misconduct complaints against advocates.

Background

My father passed away unexpectedly in Rajasthan in February 2026 while traveling with my mother and family friends. He suffered a severe heart attack.

My mother obtained the medical death certificate and a No Objection Certificate from the local police so that his remains could be brought back to West Bengal for the last rites.

Because the death occurred in a relatively remote location in Rajasthan, obtaining the official municipal death certificate required someone to deal with the relevant authorities there. I live outside India, and my mother is elderly, so I hired a husband-and-wife pair of advocates in West Bengal to handle the administrative process.

We agreed on a total fee of approximately ₹3.5 lakh, with the possibility of some nominal additional expenses. They represented that the process would take approximatelyĀ 1.5–2 months.

They requested approximately 70% upfront, and I paid them ₹2.5 lakhĀ on or around February 25, 2026.

What happened afterward

We remained in communication with them for several months, but we did not receive the death certificate.

OnĀ August 17, 2026, approximately six months after hiring them, they told us that they had obtained death certificates from aĀ different jurisdiction in Rajasthan, rather than from the municipality where my father died.

They then demanded a total of approximately ₹14.1 lakhĀ in additional payments.

Specifically, they demanded:

  • ₹8.35 lakh immediately, allegedly to obtain/release the death certificates from Rajasthan; and
  • ₹5.85 lakh later, allegedly for administrative work in West Bengal.

These additional amounts had never been discussed or agreed upon with either my mother or me during the preceding six months.

When I questioned the charges and asked for receipts, invoices, or documentation explaining the expenses, they refused to provide them. They also suggested that we should have known about these expenses through ā€œcommon sense.ā€

They additionally claimed that because we had asked them to obtain the certificate urgently after waiting several months, they assumed they could spend whatever amount was necessary without obtaining our prior approval.

I refused to make the ₹8.35 lakh payment.

Incident involving my mother

OnĀ September 1, 2026, the two advocates came to my elderly mother's residence in New Town, West Bengal, accompanied byĀ four police personnel.

They said that the police personnel were there as their security detail.

The advocates remained at my mother's residence for approximatelyĀ two hours. According to my mother, they:

  • repeatedly demanded payment;
  • accused her of lying about the financial agreement;
  • verbally abused and insulted her;
  • pressured and intimidated her to make the payment immediately;
  • took photographs and videos of the residence without her permission; and
  • allegedly made statements that she perceived as threats.

Most concerningly, one of them allegedlyĀ insinuated that he could poison her drinking water without facing consequences.

My mother isĀ 71 years oldĀ and is already grieving the recent death of her husband. She was extremely distressed and frightened by the incident.

The police personnel were allegedly present during these interactions.

My questions

I would appreciate advice on the following:

  1. Could the demand for ₹8.35 lakh (and ultimately ₹14.1 lakh) potentially constitute extortion, criminal intimidation, coercion, or another offense under Indian law, particularly given the alleged threats?
  2. Does the fact that the advocates allegedly entered/visited my mother's residence and remained there for approximately two hours despite her objection potentially constitute criminal trespass or another offense?
  3. What should we do regarding the alleged threat about poisoning her water?Ā Is this something that should be specifically included in a police complaint/FIR?
  4. SinceĀ four police personnel were allegedly present, what is the best way to document this incident?
  5. What legal/professional remedies are available against advocates who allegedly:
    • accepted a substantial advance but did not complete the agreed work;
    • obtained documents from a potentially incorrect jurisdiction;
    • demanded very large additional amounts that were never agreed upon; and
    • allegedly used intimidation or threats to obtain payment?
  6. Should we approach theĀ local police, theĀ Bar Council, aĀ consumer forum, or another authority? Would it make sense to pursue more than one of these avenues?
  7. What evidence should we preserve? We currently have payment records and written communications regarding the original agreement and subsequent payment demands.

I am particularly interested in understandingĀ what immediate steps my mother should take to protect herself from further visits, threats, or harassment, and what evidence would be most useful if we make a formal police complaint.

Legal Advice Needed Neighbour had constructed a toilet on the common boundary wall. We want it removed!

Countrymen,

This is probably a common problem.

Our neighbours have constructed a toilet on the common boundary wall that we share, on their side.

They have made the toilet such that it towers over the boundary wall by 3 feet.

Just imagine how it looks from our side.

It is complete with a tin shed on top.

Moreover, the smell reaches us at times.

Great amount of moss has developed on our side of the wall which corresponds to their toilet area, because of this.

Its pathetic.

In our view, this is totally illegal and outlandish.

How do we get rid of this?

We haven’t talked to the neighbours yet because they are special category people and they might put the act on us frivolously.

Please suggest options.

  1. How do we bring it up with them, so that they destroy the toilet and remove it from there.
  2. What can we do legally?
  3. Can’t we just get it

removed ourselves, physically, without facing consequences?

Please advice!

Legal Advice Needed How are small businesses importing and selling toys in India with the BIS requirements?

I’m planning to start an online business selling educational/Montessori-style toys in India, potentially sourcing some products from China.
I’ve been trying to understand the BIS requirements for toys, but I’m still confused about how the whole process actually works for a small business.

A few questions:

  1. Is there any way to import and sell toys in India without BIS certification?
  2. Are wooden, Montessori, educational or handmade toys treated differently?
  3. If I source toys from a Chinese factory, does the factory need to have BIS certification, or can I somehow obtain it as the Indian importer?
  4. Can I get BIS certification for products made by an existing Chinese manufacturer?
  5. Does each individual toy need separate certification, or can multiple products be covered under one licence?
  6. What is the practical and affordable way for a small business to legally start importing toys?
  7. Has anyone here actually gone through the BIS process for imported toys?

I’m mainly trying to figure out what options are realistically available before deciding whether importing toys is even viable for a small business.
Would appreciate any advice or experiences from people who have dealt with BIS, Customs, Chinese suppliers, or importing toys into India.

Legal Advice Needed Need advice on quashing petition in a matrimonial case

I need legal advice regarding a matrimonial case involving my friend. She was mentally tortured and threatened by her husband and in-laws.

An FIR was filed at the local police station, and the police have already completed the investigation and filed a chargesheet. The matter has now moved to the district court and a hearing date has been fixed.(498A)

Now the other side has filed a quashing petition in the High Court seeking to remove the sister-in-law’s name from the FIR/chargesheet.

We believe there is a lot of evidence against her and there's proof that she was involved in the harassment. What steps can be taken to oppose the quashing petition and prevent her name from being removed from the case?

What is the best way to approach this?

We really want SIL to be punished because the MIL and SIL inflicted relentless mental torture and intimidation, behaving in a deeply abusive and unacceptable manner.

Like I said, we have the proof.

Legal Advice Needed Need advice: Buyer hasn’t transferred RC, and Honda is asking me to pay battery lease dues

I sold my Honda E-Activa (electric scooter) to a lawyer in Bangalore in April. He still hasn’t applied for the RC transfer, even though we both signed Forms 29 and 30.

The scooter’s battery is leased under my name (same for all of their scooters). There is currently an outstanding amount of around ₹3,200, and Honda has now sent me a warning asking me to clear the dues, otherwise they may take legal action against me.

I contacted the person who bought the scooter and asked him to clear the outstanding amount. He is refusing to pay and instead wants me to take the scooter back and refund his money.

After receiving the warning letter from Honda yesterday, I contacted him again and asked him to settle the dues. This time, he accused me of not informing him about the battery lease and disconnected the call.

However, I had clearly explained the battery lease arrangement to him when we first met. I also gave him a copy of the battery lease agreement/document.

I have all the chat backup of our conversation on WhatsApp, a photo of signed form 29 and 30, sale receipt and delivery note.

To make things worse, Honda is now asking me to return the leased battery. The person currently in possession of the scooter is refusing to hand the battery back to me.

I’m not sure what my options are at this point. I’m also hesitant to approach the local police because I’ve heard from neighbours and friends in the area that the police here are highly corrupt.

What should I do in this situation? Has anyone dealt with something similar involving an RC transfer and a leased EV battery?

Any practical/legal advice would be greatly appreciated.

Legal Advice Needed Paid ₹1.75 lakh as advance for a property, seller is now avoiding us,what legal options do we have?

Hi everyone, looking for some legal advice/guidance on how to proceed with a property-related issue in India.

A while ago, my husband and I decided to purchase a small 1 RK property for investment . Around the same time, we found out that we were expecting our first child, so naturally our priorities changed and we decided we could no longer go ahead with the purchase.

Before this, however, we had already paid the seller ₹1.75 lakh as an advance.

At the time of payment, we had a handwritten document signed by the seller acknowledging that he had received ₹1.75 lakh from us.

We also have:

*Proof of the online bank transaction.
*The original/signed handwritten acknowledgment
*WhatsApp/text messages with the seller
*Call records Multiple messages where we have requested the money back His replies/assurances saying that he will return it by a particular date, sometimes ā€œnext monthā€, sometimes another month/date but he has never actually paid it back.

In between, there have also been periods where he simply doesn’t respond to our messages/calls.
We have also tried to be as reasonable and accommodating as possible.

We told him that if he genuinely cannot arrange the entire ₹1.75 lakh at once, we are willing to accept the repayment in instalments. We even suggested that he could start with a minimum payment of ₹10,000, just so that there is some movement and we have some assurance that he intends to repay the amount. Despite offering this option, we still haven’t received any payment.

At this point, we have been trying to get our money back, but he continues to delay and give vague assurances rather than actually returning it.
We don’t want to unnecessarily escalate things, but ₹1.75 lakh is a significant amount for us and we obviously don’t want to keep waiting indefinitely.

  1. What would be the correct legal route in this situation?

2.Should we first send a formal legal notice demanding repayment?

3.If he still doesn’t pay after the notice, would this be a civil recovery suit, or is there another appropriate remedy?

  1. Does the fact that we have a signed handwritten acknowledgment + bank transaction proof + messages acknowledging the debt put us in a reasonably strong position?

  2. Would it make sense to approach the police, or is this primarily a civil dispute unless there is evidence that he took the money with fraudulent intent from the beginning?

  3. Is there anything specific we should do now to preserve our evidence and protect ourselves legally?
If anyone has dealt with a similar situation, I’d really appreciate knowing what route you took and how it turned out.

TL;DR: Paid a seller ₹1.75 lakh as advance for a 1 RK. We have a signed handwritten acknowledgment of receipt, bank transaction proof, messages and call records. We subsequently decided not to proceed with the purchase and have repeatedly asked for our money back. Seller keeps giving vague promises about returning it ā€œnext monthā€/by various dates but hasn’t paid. We have even offered to accept repayment in instalments and asked him to start with just ₹10,000, but he still hasn’t paid anything. What is the correct legal route in India , legal notice, civil recovery, police complaint, or something else?
