Discussion Serious question for people who voted on grocery prices
I’ll be straight: a huge reason a lot of us went his way was cost of living. Groceries, gas, the basics. That was a real, legitimate thing to vote on, and I don’t think anyone should feel dumb for it. “I will immediately bring prices down, starting on Day One” — he said that standing in front of a table of groceries. At rallies it was “they’ll come down, and they’ll come down fast.”
Here’s what I keep getting stuck on. Weeks after the election, before he even took office, TIME asked him point-blank if it’d be a failure if prices didn’t come down. His answer: “I’d like to bring them down. It’s hard to bring things down once they’re up. You know, it’s very hard.”
So which version was true — the “Day One, fast” guy on the trail, or the “it’s very hard” guy once the votes were counted? And a year and a half in, groceries are still up, not down.
I’m not asking you to hate the guy. I voted for him too. I’m asking: if any other politician sold us something that specific and then quietly said “yeah that’s very hard” the second the election was over, what would we call that? Genuinely asking.

The unvarnished truth is that DJT needed to win in 2024 because if he didn't, he was going to go to prison.
He said it, Bannon said it, multiple people have said it. The one and only thing Donald needed was to get elected again so he could avoid prosecution. That's it. Once he got back in he realized, I think, that now the guardrails are either gone or could be eroded to the point that he could insulate himself from anything that even remotely looks like consequences. He has now parlayed that continue fleecing not only his die-hard supporters but also America at-large.

this is where i'm at. if they can't fundamentally admit why they voted for him at their core, i'm done with all of them. if they voted for 'prices', it's full head-in-sand stupidity. at best, maga voters put money above human decency and broke the social contract by voting for an actual villain.

The reason cost of living, groceries and gas was so expensive before he got elected for a second term was a result of his first term. The poor way he handled covid, the tax structure that was implemented by him and has been in place since his first term, the inflation from printing money to give everyone checks then printing money for the PPP scam. He didn’t hold businesses accountable for price gouging everyone during covid, he instead deregulated capitalism, allowing companies and the rich to transfer the wealth of the middle class straight to the top. Theres never been a bigger wealth gap in American history.
It is beyond me how people can ever think a greedy, corrupt, immoral billionaire is ever thinking about anyones interests other than themselves. They have enough money to make the world a better place without politics, but you thought giving them more power would somehow have them turn around and lookout for the average person, the same people they’ve trample over to gain that kind of wealth and live that lifestyle. These people enjoy living so far removed from the way 99.9% of Americans live, how could they have sympathy about affordability when they don’t even look at bills, and eat out without ever paying attention to the cost.

Trump is a: documented perpetual liar and grifter; adjudicated criminal with 34 felonies for financial fraud; nepo baby who bankrupted casinos and stiffed his contractors; adjudicated SA'r for rpng E.Jean. Carol and is in the Epstein files.
No one who has access to the internet should have ever let that Thing near the White House in the first place because they could clearly read what I read and saw what I listed above and more. Yet, here we are.
No sympathy from me here.

You are exactly why we are spending hundreds of billions on a war nobody wants while defunding education, healthcare and social services. I have never heard it so directly said so directly, but probably such cases exist on both wings. That being said, everybody with a minimum of understanding of how a capitalistic country works, will know that a single man, no matter how powerful he is, can't bring down prices like he promised. So yes. Everyone should feel dumb for believing such s promise.

Especially without providing one detail of how he planned to do it. Details of a health care plan in two weeks. Never happened. Details for infrastructure in two weeks. Never happened. Details on DOGE refund checks. Tariff rebate checks. Never happened. Trumpolini said all this shit & more without detailing how it would all be done & the media never attempted to question him. Apparently everyone that voted for him believed he was a magician.

You believed a conman. Prices were not going to come down his first day in office, just like he wasn't going to end the Russia/Ukraine war within the same first 24 hours.

“First day in office everyone gets a free pony” I could never understand how people looked at inflation and high gas prices and went “ohh yup, trump can fix this” he was riding the tailwinds of the economy rebuilt from Obama in his first term and people thought that’s how it would be round 2

Here in the UK, people voted for Boris Johnson to be Prime Minister, because of the appealing promises he was making. But Boris was mainly famous for three things: being Mayor of London, being fired from multiple jobs for lying, and for infidelity with a succession of girlfriends and wives (no one knows for sure how many children he has, and he's not telling).
How can anyone vote for a known liar, Trump or Johnson, and expect him to have been telling the truth?
(Trump also said he would end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours. Sure, that's sounds appealing, but doesn't someone have to have been an idiot to have believed him?)

Did you also vote for him in the 2020 election, you know, the one he lost to Biden but claims election fraud over? If you did then you learned nothing from Trump's disastrous first term. From an outsider's perspective Trump 1 was a forgivable error, Trump 2 is the forever unforgivable choice, where y'all shot yourself in both feet. If you're whining about what's happening about food and gas prices as they are today just remember that you voted for this.

Grocery prices? He spoke to you in his very special way and you pulled the lever because of a last minute dog and pony on grocery prices?
You now realize he lied? After everything you conveniently overlooked you finally realize you were duped? Now here you are, hoping for some type of social/group understanding? Forgiveness? A hug? Why don’t you go look up every DJT lie from his first admin. He lies so often that we coined two terms for his lying “fake news” and “alternative facts”. He’s a pedophile, rapist, misogynist, racist and has been since term one. B1+ch I voted in senior year of High School against Trump bc I had a working brain and did a bare minimum of my own research about topics and went beyond the news outlets I saw all the time. You and everyone else who only decided to pay attention to a single impossible promise (ask any economist, u ever notice how much he hates the federal reserve guy? It’s because he’s a terrible businessman with multiple expensive bankruptcies under his belt and the Fed Reserve guy doesn’t want him doing that to the country. Except we’re in more debt now than ever) U know Ebola and Screw Worms? We spent a lot of money to treat those in other countries to prevent them from entering our own. But Trump and Elon and Doge three out these programs with the rest of USAID and other foreign aid practices because again, they don’t understand anything about cause and effect or how governments work. DJT expects to demand something be done and it happens whether it’s constitutional or not, his first term he had ppl around him who kept him from doing that but this time he made sure to surround himself with yesmen and enablers who don’t care about anything besides personal gain which they think they can get thru Trump.
You were duped by a loud pedophile rapist and failed businessman who has multiple confirmed mentions and photos in the Epstein files, and you should all feel dumb for it. We told u his plan was Project 2025 and here we are following it step by step.

He promised tarriffs. Then he had to lie about how tarrifs worked. Reporters for every network other than Fox News and ONN, along with countless online publications corrected him and explained how tarriffs actually work. This was all before the election.
He claimed there'd be no new war, but during his first term he ordered missile strikes on Syria, drone strikes on Iran, and troop surges in Afghanistan. He escalated war tensions with North Korea and got into an embarrassing back-and-forth with Kim Jong Un.
Not even getting into the insurrection, election denials, pardoning of p3d0s, etc -- I really can't understand why anyone wouldn't know to avoid this creep.
If your main attraction to the guy is that you "just love the way he gets under people's skin" then you may need to come to terms with the possibility that you identify with Trump because the common thread between you and him is that you're both a-holes.

You never asked how he would accomplish it. Never questioned it, because he told you so. If Kamala said the same thing, you'd have second guessed it. You would have asked how.
Let's be real. You did not vote for lower grocery prices. Or lower housing. Or lower healthcare costs. That man literally said he only had concepts of plans, which means no plan at all, for any of it.
That man did not trick you.
