Is there a source for the statement that farmers expected minority farm hands to pick up the slack? I’ve seen this video a bunch, but I haven’t seen farmers saying it or polling.

Well, the current administration are racist. It's been proven time and time again with trump. It wouldn't surprise me in the least that this is what they expected to happen.

I’m sorry, but that doesn’t answer the question. Yes, the Trump administration is racist and regressive, but that still doesn’t provide a source for the statement that was supposedly made. Honesty and truthfulness are necessary for a good and moral society. This post reads like rage/engagement bait—like it’s meant to evoke hatred and anger.
Unless there’s a source for the above shown statement, it didn’t happen.
Edit: y’all are downvoting me, but no one is providing a source. Anti-intellectualism is alive and well. Heavens forbid you’re held to a standard for the statements you make.

Frankly most farmers I've worked with don't want to hire Americans of any race to work in the same labor positions migrant laborers work in. Whenever they do get the rare american even willing to apply, they usually quit before getting through one shift because field labor is incredibly physically and mentally demanding not to mention it pays absolute dogshit. The system relies on having desperate people coming from even worse labor markets and the purchasing power of US currency in foreign countries. I think a lot of farmers thought their laborers, documented or not, would be exempt from ICE because our agricultural systems are so entirely reliant on migrant labor and to an extent that is what has happened, farms and other ag institutions haven't been major targets of enforcement, what they didn't account for is the reduction in availability of laborers because migrants are scared of dealing with ICE and the fact that people are less willing to deal with the terrible conditions in the ag labor market.

No, made up nonsense from a "fairness advocate". They haven't done away with the migrant worker program, just the illegal immigrant worker program. As the federal government continues to scale back and eliminate programs that allow people to sit on their ass and not work, people may reconsider some of the farm labor opportunities.

It's my understanding that the part of the h2a visa program where you could quite literally show up to the border and supply the farm/ranch information and move forward has ended. The h2a program is still there but its no where near as fast, and theres still substantially more information needed than before which slows it down. Also, people are just being chased and rounded up no matter what. Even if they have papers, who wants to do that every day? That type of fear? Nobody.
And as for people who should consider farm labor, how exactly are you planning to get them there? Farms are not in cities and suburbs. And rarely are they in cities/states people want to go to.

The other fun thing is that we won’t know it. The Republicans either have or will pass a bill that corporations don’t have to reveal who owns what. So we won’t know that Kansas Megafarms and Oklahoma Big Ranch and Texas One Star Beef are all owned by a single umbrella corporation.

Some politicians have received bachelor's degrees in economics from Harvard and have gone on to lead two different countries central banks.
Some politicians have been called "dumbest goddam student" by their former professor and went on to bancrupt casinos and be convicted of financial crimes.
Some politicians have received standing ovations by their peers at economic forums.
Some politicians were mocked and ignored by these same world leaders and could not complete coherent sentences.

Wasn't it obvious though? During his campaign tour he was talking about 'immigrants taking away black jobs and that he would fix that. In a speech in rural America, no less.
Now, I'm from northern Europe but when I heard him say that on the news, I knew exactly what he meant. Most of the immigrants were working on farms and ranches and by deporting them, he implicitly promised the (white) farmers that he would give them back the black work labour. That's why they voted for them, because it meant that they didn't have to pay their Mexican workers their (pitiful) wages and instead he would give them their black slaves.

The farmers know that no one else but immigrant and migrant workers will do the work. Crop picking jobs are seasonal, physically exhausting, and offer unstable hours that most local workers avoid.

The south afrikans are very popular here as they have experience with large farm equipment but many smaller farms are getting them from Mexico and Guatemala too. Lots available that just want to work. Gotta be a good manager tho, as if they don’t get 60-80 hrs a week they want to go somewhere else.
