This Is Why Trump Loves Farmers Like This... “No USDA Approval is a Win”
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
He tweets that he’s going to let “mystery meat” into the U.S. and because it’s processed here they are labeling it as “U.S. beef.”
Even more concerning: imported beef has previously been stopped after testing positive for chloramphenicol, an antibiotic prohibited for use in food-producing animals in the U.S. because of serious human health risks, including potentially fatal blood disorders and concerns about cancer.
Americans deserve to know where their beef actually comes from and what’s in it.

u/DuhBraux 12h ago
What I heard was: making Americans sick is perfectly fine, as long as I get to profit from it.
It’s not rocket science to understand that Trump wants to get rid of the USDA so the next time he brings in more “mystery meat from Argentina” to undercut the beef you are trying to sell, no one will be there to stop him.

Not Trump - he’s too fucking stupid to have any vision for absolutely anything outside of his narcissistic and sociopathic wants and needs.. Putting an end to regulating departments and such like the USDA and FDA is and has been a long term goal of the Heritage Society or whatever those people are called that authored project 2025 and “the mandates for leadership.”
Trump’s popularity is just a vehicle that all the worst people in the the world are using to be able and steal billions of dollars, destroy decades and decades of progress in laws and protections for the common people, rig all of our ALREADY rigged and compromised economy to further enrich the obscenely rich, further their racist and classist ideologies… I mean you could go on and on about the absolute RAPE of America that is happening right now. And all it takes is a little bit of bribing to the right people in the administration and the right depth at which your nose enters trumps asshole, and you can do WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANT.

My mom works for the USDA, the meat they try to get away with is disgusting. Im talking chickens with fecal matter, broken bones, blood from half formed eggs still inside the chickens. They try to push all of it through as fast as they can and the USDA is the only thing keeping the non edible/diseased chickens from the grocery store they will try to sell whatever they can get away with. If you get poisoned from their food there is a low chance you are going to know where it came from and sue the correct company, if you die before you even get a chance to sue win/win. Not many people know how much the USDA and food regulations, regulations period, save us everyday.

What if the size of government was actually tied to its tasks and not simply "small" or "big", but just right for what's needed in a modern society, like Goldilock?
I know, shocking idea...
This small vs. big is just to denigrate the actual functioning parts and to deflect from having an adult discussion about all its functions and shortcomings (electoral college, representative democracy, president "pardoning" rightfully convicted criminals, possibility of government "shutdown", theatrical politicians etc.)

Yeah I'm so sick of the argument against "big government".
Yes, we need a big government. Because the US is fucking HUGE. Geographically, diplomatically, politically, economically, militarily, etc. It's a huge fucking country that has its fingers in nearly every aspect of every country on the planet.
It needs a large administrative apparatus to work it. And people keep talking about "the government" like it's a shady cabal of supervillains. The Government is literally made up of citizens of the very country that IS GOVERNED BY THE GOVERNMENT. It's the very first line of the constitution! The government is US, the PEOPLE. BY THE PEOPLE. FOR THE PEOPLE.
The government is big and 'inefficient' because of all the beauracratic safeguards to try to prevent corruption and fascist takeover. That's why you need 'approvals' at multiple levels by different people and organizations. There are a lot of checks and balances built into the system for that reason. It's a feature, not a flaw.
'Small government' means streamlined decision making and control--- but to do that you need to consolidate power to a few people. In government, that's dangerous. And that's why fascists always push for 'small government'. It's far easier to take control when there are less roadblocks in your way.
Stop blaming "big goverment" for your problems. It's the people IN government that are the problem, not government itself. The Government is a tool to manage a nation, and if it's being abusive, blame the PEOPLE IN POWER ABUSING GOVERNMENT TO ABUSE YOU.

u/West-Worth-9359 11h ago
Veggies and fruits can be more easily cleaned to guard against contaminants.
Of course, this doesn’t help in cases of mass production.
The more outbreaks there are linked to mass production the more people will stop eating from established businesses and instead cook/prepare their own.
If fast food corporations were competent, they would be fighting against this kind of deregulation with everything they have, because the loss of trust in food standards is going to cost them billions.
4
u/notmatrocles 9h ago
If anyone at these corporations cared about anything beyond the end of month/quarter/fiscal year numbers, this would be terrible for them. But throw a dart at pretty much any level of the executive pecking order, you'll just find someone looking for an immediate gain, who will just leapfrog to another corporation before the bill comes due and do the same thing, leaving the mess behind for everyone else to deal with. If the corporation loses enough on it, they'll just get folded into a larger corporation and lay off a bunch of people and boom, shareholders can't lose. I'm not a religious man, but it's enough to make me think the Amish might have the right of it lol

What's interesting to me as a non-American about this is that so much of the complaints Trump and maga have is that other countries won't buy their meat/produce.
American products didn't have a great reputation for quality/taste before Trump, and people don't want to buy American for political reasons
Now they're getting well documented and openly bragged about health and safety reasons to never buy it

She's not a farmer or rancher. She's a homesteader. She imagines this is going to be the thing that enables her to get rich homesteading, when it's more likely to bankrupt her when she gets sued to oblivion after selling some contaminated beef, or just having to recall said beef after it's discovered, completely wiping out her revenue for the year. Large corporate farms can absorb those costs, plus they do have an incentive to avoid selling contaminated meat to begin with, where this woman is just trying to reduce her costs because she realized meat production is crazy expensive after she got into homesteading.

I won't buy any meat that is not USDA certified. That certification exists due to the untold amount of people killed by improperly prepared food due to processors cutting corners. No certification, no deal.

Bad news for her. They’re still all under the “USDA’s thumb.” Most countries won’t buy US meat without USDA certification, including the ones that buy the most US beef.
Of course, if our usual buyers (Canada, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Mexico buy the most) start to question the origin of US meat, that could change everything.
But she clearly has no idea what she’s talking about. And she’s a farmer. You'd think farmers would know the details. Or anything at all about a program created for them.
From the USDA website on SPUR:
“Today, Under Secretary for Farm Production and Conservation Richard Fordyce announced applications for the Strengthening Processing for U.S. Ranchers (SPUR) program that will provide temporary support for eligible beef slaughter facilities will be emailed to eligible establishments next week.
The SPUR program provides up to $500 million in payments to eligible establishments to support stronger and more stable market opportunities for American ranchers. Beginning, Aug. 10, 2026, USDA will email partially prefilled applications to eligible beef slaughter facilities. Completed applications must be returned to USDA by Sept. 11, 2026.”
The SPUR program is authorized under the Commodity Credit Corporation Charter Act and will be administered by USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) at the national office level.
SPUR Eligibility
USDA is using Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) data to determine eligible establishments and payment amounts.
Eligible beef slaughter facilities must be: Federally inspected or a participant in the Talmadge-Aiken Cooperative Inspection Program or the Cooperative Interstate Shipment Program and operational at the time of SPUR. https://www.fsa.usda.gov/news-events/news/08-07-2026/usda-opens-strengthening-processing-us-ranchers-program-500-million

She seems young and probably heavily influenced by her family's farm politics. She probably only sees some of the costs and doesn't fully understand why USDA does the inspections.
The first time her farm is investigated for contaminated meat, and her livestock basically turns into an unsaleable waste of time, she'll be out there begging the government for a welfare check so she doesn't lose her family farm.
Maybe the government will bail her out, or maybe she'll end up selling to a giant conglomerate. Either way, I'm pretty much done eating beef and it'll only take a few very public deaths due to these policies to decimate their market.

when I lived in Canada, I used to avoid USDA beef if it was cheap beef it was probably USDA beef. the quality between Canadian beef and American beef is a gulf.
I agree that there shouldn't be a handful of meat processors which can dictate the price of farmer's produce. I believe there are four major meat processors today, whereas in the '90s there was about 40.

This is what cult culture looks like. None of these people think things through. They are being told what to think.
The fact is regulations come mostly from grass-roots non-partisan efforts of the people after many have died. When standards allow for bad wiring, processing or contaminates that harm people, we get together and force Congress to make legislation to protect people.

man it must be SO hard to get USDA certified
- Secure Infrastructure Utilities: Obtain official documentation validating an approved water source and an approved sewage/waste disposal system.
- Meet Sanitation Performance Standards (SPS): Ensure the facility design prevents contamination, featuring proper floor drainage, distinct product separation zones, and tight door seals.
- Draft Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs): Author a written, step-by-step cleaning plan detailed for daily pre-operational and operational sanitation.
- Develop a HACCP Plan: Conduct a written hazard analysis and implement a customized Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system to track food safety risks.
- Submit FSIS Form 5200-2: File the official application for a Grant of Inspection with your regional FSIS District Office.
- Gain Label Approval: Submit and receive authorization for all product labels and official inspection marks before commercial production.
- Pass a Pre-Operational Inspection: Host federal inspectors to review the physical plant, equipment, and written safety protocols.
- Complete the 90-Day Validation: Operate under a conditional grant for 90 days to prove your HACCP plan functions as designed.
jesus christ these people want to put literal shit in your food and sell you it. That is not a tough list to tackle, its basically saying "BE CLEAN."
