"Follow the Money": Farmers voting Trump to get Govt Handouts and cheap labor
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZQxCvbLG6USo I've been following this Youtube channel called Farm to Taber for a while, basically a NC farmer that goes into all sorts of ways US agriculture fails.
I thought this particular video from 7 months ago was relevant.
One of her big things is the typical farm owner is actually rich in the US, they tend to be millionaires owning big family businesses. Yet somehow the propaganda has us believing they are peasants scraping by on the prairie who are constantly at risk of losing the family cottage because of evil government red tape and regulations. In this particular video she points out that people just take this at face value, because explanations of why specific groups of people vote Trump are always drowned out by deafening "culture war" discourse.
So instead we might try a "follow the money" approach. They were talking quite openly among each other about how they were expected to just receive handouts from the government if Trump got elected. In other videos she also talks about how a lot of these farmers are basically waiting for slavery to come back, you know of course in a more ideologically palatable form like prison labor. Which recently also caused most of them to become anti ICE because they are just straight up disappearing the farmhands they were exploiting.
Of course the last thing these people want is for farming in the US to actually become a competitive business, as they believe it's their birthright to be wealthy farmers, as she points out in this video, "they literally say it's a lifestyle, not a business".
So yeah I think she makes some important points. Rather than this kind of blue collar hero we should see these farmers for what they are: minor capitalists who not only despise the idea of regulations and social protection when they actually protect the interests of the public, but also actively campaign to make US agriculture non competitive and basically a privilege for rich family businesses that just receive govt subsidies.
#notallfarmers of course and so on and so forth...

trump has been promising socialism for white people for a long time. I posted this two years ago....now it's just for farmers which MAGAts wrongly assume is only white people

Her stuff and farming while beige are both awesome honest looks at the economics of farming.

Thank you for posting this again, she actually ran for office but did not win. She was just too candid and honest for the good old boys and their fan base. The $ is even bigger than the cultural war but both things are part of it.
