Announcement Stadium Firmware Beta signup!

Hey all, we are now officially opening up beta signup for Stadium firmware. If you're interested, just head over to https://line6.com/account/betateams/ and create an account, make sure Helix Stadium XL is checked, and make sure your info is current. Things to note:

  • You WILL be signing an NDA and under no circumstances are you allowed to discuss what's in the beta outside of the official beta venues
  • We really REALLY need you to actually engage with the new stuff and give us feedback on it, even if you don't specifically find bugs
  • You will be installing firmware onto your unit that is by definition NOT READY FOR RELEASE. That means there are almost certainly bugs and it might not be stable or reliable. It's probably not a great idea to gig this, so take that into account before signing up. You are able to roll back to release firmware at any time if you need to
  • We hugely appreciate anyone who takes the time to do this because it is an immense help for us, all feedback and reporting that we get from this gets taken very seriously

General Questions/Discussion Feature requests from a full-time gigging musician/long-time Kemper guy

Let me first say that I love this thing; feels so much more inspiring to play through the Helix Stadium than the Kemper for me. Love the plethora of effects/routing options/amp models. That being said, I have noticed some issues in the past couple months of ownership/gigging that I feel could easily be fixed with future updates. The list:

1) HEEL DOWN TUNER

Maybe this is just coming from Kemper, but I am so used to having the tuner activate when the volume pedal is in the heel down position. I rely on this for quick tuning changes between songs more than I anticipated, and I feel like it’s an easy thing to add.

2) DEDICATED LOOPER STOP BUTTON

I do a fair bit of live looping for solo acoustic gigs; with the Kemper, there was a dedicated stop button to store the loop/not have it autoplay for when I want to loop a section and play it later. From what I’ve seen, Helix Stadium does not currently support this, which makes live looping much more restrictive than on the Kemper.

3) INVERTED COLOR OPTION FOR SCRIBBLE STRIPS

Most of my summer gigs have been outside during the day, and even at max brightness I really cannot see the touchscreen or the scribble strips at all (especially wearing sunglasses). I feel like a simple solution would be to invert the blacks & whites on the scribble strips so that it could be black text on white background. Or maybe there are polarized screen protectors that help with this? If anyone has dealt with this issue and has another solution, please let me know.

4) NO DIRECT MONITORING USING HELIX STADIUM AS INTERFACE

The Kemper has a very simple option on the output section to turn on/off Direct Monitoring when using as an interface (mostly for reamping purposes); I am not seeing a simple option like this on the Helix Stadium XL. Again, this may just be me not looking hard enough, so if anyone knows how to make this work please let me know.

These are not dealbreakers by any means (the looper one a bit more so than others), but I really do feel these are easily addressable/improvable issues in future updates. Hoping the powers that be see this and consider implementing these changes. Would love to hear other people’s experiences!

EDIT: One that's come up lately:

5) MP3 FILES FOR SHOWCASE MODE

Probably something to do with variable bitrate on MP3s that makes this trickier than it sounds, but man it would save a ton of space!

Tech Help Request HELP! Stomp-xl Need assistance with setting up a new stereo guitar rig.

Upvotes

I am trying to create a new stereo guitar rig with the following signal path. Guitar into input of my Soldano SLO30. From Soldano fx loop send into the HX Stomp-xl. From the stomp-xl returns, one into the return on the soldano - and one into the return of a Marshal DSL 100 being used as power only for a 4X12 Cab. The soldano also has a 4x12 cab connected to it. Cannot figure out the cabling and patch setting for the stomp-xl to have it in full stereo.

General Questions/Discussion ToneRelay - Wireless Preset Editing for Helix Floor (hobby project)

Hi all,

I posted a little preview of this a couple of weeks back and I'm now pleased to share that I've released everything on GitHub: https://github.com/mpeskett88/ToneRelay

ToneRelay is a software solution that allows for live HXEdit-like functionality on a Helix Floor via WiFi. This first release can be deployed to a Raspberry Pi 4 or 5, but the hope is to ultimately optimize it for smaller battery-capable devices such as a Pi Zero 2 W or ESP32-P4 (I have one en route to me).

In the same way that you might want a Line 6 Relay adapter for a wireless guitar signal, a relatively low-cost adapter like a Pi Zero 2 W or ESP32-P4 can give you a real-time, wireless HXEdit-like experience too.

You can read more about the background and features of ToneRelay in the GitHub README, but to summarize here:

ToneRelay started with the idea of building an iOS app for my Helix Floor, but I then pivoted to making a wireless adapter that connects to my Helix via USB and broadcasts a WiFi or Bluetooth signal that I can connect to from my laptop or mobile device. Since HX Edit itself cannot function wirelessly, I then also had to go ahead and make my own browser-based GUI too. This GUI has been optimized for mobile devices in portrait mode, with an emphasis on touchability (i.e big icons and sliders etc) but it still looks great on a regular desktop browser.

The core idea of ToneRelay is the USB-wireless bridge, moreso than creating another third-party GUI. I just needed to make my own GUI to prove and test the idea. With the whole thing available on GitHub I am more than happy for other devs to port this to their own projects as an optional value-added feature. Details on that are available in the README.

With that said though, a live GUI has been a lot of fun to develop and allows for some cool ideas such as drag and drop blocks and a parametric EQ graph. I'd like to look at adding bespoke UIs for compressors and other blocks in the future and potentially even an adaptation of the Stadium's Focus View, but for Helix and HX devices.

With that said, I don't currently have other HX devices in my possession to test and validate the app against, so if you're a developer and want to try this out with your own gear I would absolutely love that. I'm open to all comments and suggestions etc.

Finally, a big shout out to the other open source developers who already did the hard work of reverse engineering the protocol and working out how to get all of the parameter limits and names etc mapped, in particular OpenHX, TonePush and FretWire.

General Questions/Discussion Stadium Native in live scenario

I have a Helix LT, but if I got Stadium Native, what is the best way to utilize using it live? I understand Stadium Native is used as a plugin in a DAW. So I'd need to run Reaper for example, with a guitar track and Stadium Native active. What now ?? would I need a midi device to change presets or snapshots while playing on stage ? Could I use my LT as a midi controller for Stadium Native ? Or would I need a dedicated midi controller to change presets/snapshots and another footpedal to change the volume output ?

Tech Help Request Helix FX making digital fizzing noise when plugged into an amp / interface

I bought my unit second hand maybe about a year ago, and only for the last few months has it started making a loud digital fizzing / buzzing when plugged into an amp. At first, if I ran my guitar through the helix and into my audio interface, it would silence the buzz, but I've today tried to run my synth through the helix into my interface and the buzzing completely overpowers the synth. When the tuner is active, the noise is reduced to a faint 'clicking' sound instead.

Has anyone experienced anything similar or found any solutions? Sadly, I don't think returning is going to be an option as it is second hand; am I screwed and need to consider replacing?

Tech Help Request Can't get Helix Native to run on my Surface Book 3

Post image
1 Upvotes

Been trying to get Helix Native running on my Surface Book 3 laptop in Cubase 14 Pro, but every time I log in, I get sent to a blank screen without any access to the signal chain editor like in the picture above. The track I already have a Helix preset saved to will just play with no effects as if Native is being bypassed. I've spent probably at least 20 hours trying to troubleshoot the issue through Google searches. I've also reached out to Line 6's support team, but they've given up after a lengthy back and forth involving them giving me troubleshooting steps that I've already tried and me telling them that they haven't worked. They say the software may just not be compatible with my computer hardware, but I can't imagine what's so special about my laptop's hardware (which is just running a standard Windows 11 64-bit OS) that would make Native unable to function on it. If anyone's had a similar experience, I'd greatly appreciate any insight you might have.

Tech Help Request Having trouble getting signal out of helix stomp

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

n the example I’m trying the stomp with a 4 cable method into my tube amp. Iv also tried running it as a standard pedal, and with just guitar and headphones.

In every example it sounds the same, I can hear a very slight guitar signal but it’s unusable.

Any ideas on what it could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

General Questions/Discussion Sunlight vs the Expression pedal

Had a 4 hour outdoor gig yesterday with my trusty old Helix Floor and everything was going great until about the last 5 mins of the day, as the sun started getting to a certain angle I started getting quieter 🤣 I watched my volume pedal go from 100% to 50 and quickly realized something was wrong so I bypassed the volume pedal. By the end of the last song it had faded to 0% on the screen at first I thought heat and said great I'm going to have to get this thing serviced but then I thought about it and held my hand up to block the sun 100% moved hand 0% it had turned itself into the world's slowest optical tremolo that only cycled once per day 🤦🏽‍♂️ I now understand why people get sun shields for these. Luckily shouldn't have any more dock bar gigs this year.

Free Preset/IR Helix LT cover band preset

I usually play bass but have a couple cover band gigs coming up on guitar. Has anyone got a preset uploaded they can share with me? I've tried going through Custom Tone but it's hard to look for an up to date preset without a working sort function

General Questions/Discussion New user question about the stadium

New user here - LOVE THE STADIUM so far!

Quick Question

Has anyone noticed some amps dont work when selected.

The Marshals all work no problem but then i select a Vox for example the sound either disappears or very quiet.

Mind you i am using headphones and not my speaker i purchased due to no stock in the shop so im waiting patiently for that to arrive.

Probably just my settings but just checking what everyone thinks.

Tech Help Request How do you switch between two amps on the Helix Stomp?

I understand that switching patches mid-gig is a no-go, due to delays.

Snapshots seem to be the way.

This means I either:

  1. Use one amp for clean and dirty tones.
  2. Add two amps to a patch and switch between them with snapshots

Problems

  • Djent-style amps typically sound bad for cleans.
  • The Stomp cannot handle two amps + reverb/delay + parametric EQ

Are there other options?

I'm surprised and disappointed at the DSP limitations.

UPDATE: I replaced delay/reverb with one delay and can now use the JC120!

General Questions/Discussion Configuring Volume / Wah to Toggle in Helix Stadium XL

If you want to use your toe switch to toggle between Volume and Wah with your expression pedal it's not apparent in the manual how to do this. If you just want to bring your HS to a gig and not have to use a 2nd EXP pedal then here's some precise instructions that work.

How it should operate when done:
1. Expression pedal operates the Volume (Wah off)
2. Toe click and the EP becomes Wah (Volume off but at full volume range)
3. Every toe click changes states.

Let me know how it works for you, if you are interested.

1. Open the Bypass/Control Screen

On the Stadium series, parameter assignments (like linking Wah to the pedal) are done in a specific sub-menu, not the main signal flow menu.

Tap the Wah block once to select it.

Tap the Menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the upper-left corner of the touchscreen.

Tap the button labeled Bypass/Control. This will open a screen showing your signal chain in a grid format with assignment lists on the on the bottom of the touchscreen above the Inspector Knobs.

These knobs are the only way to perform assignments on the hardware.

Then, use the knobs at the bottom of the Bypass/Control screen.

You need the Position parameter, but there is one more knob you need to use to finish the job.

2. Assign Pedal Movement (The Mapping)

For the Wah: Tap the Wah block on the touchscreen.

Turn Knob 1 (Parameter) to Position.

Turn Knob 2 (Source/Controller) until it says EXP Pedal 1.

For the Volume: Tap the Volume block on the touchscreen.

Turn Knob 1 (Parameter) to Position.

Turn Knob 2 (Source/Controller) until it says EXP Pedal 2.

3. Assign the Toe Switch (The Toggle)

Now you need to tell the Stadium XL that the physical toe click handles the "On/Off" state of these blocks.

For the Wah: With the Wah block still selected:

Turn Knob 1 (Parameter) back to Bypass.

Turn Knob 2 (Source/Controller) until it says EXP Toe.

For the Volume: Tap the Volume block.

Turn Knob 1 (Parameter) to Bypass.

Turn Knob 2 (Source/Controller) until it says EXP Toe.

4. Create the "Alternating" States (The Logic)

This is the part that isn't in the manual but is required for live use. If you stop now, the toe switch will turn both pedals ON at the same time. You need to "flip" one of them.

Press the Home icon to return to your signal chain.

Step A: Push the physical pedal toe down firmly until the pink EXP 1 light is on.

Step B: On the touchscreen, manually tap the Wah to turn it ON (bright) and tap the Volume to turn it OFF (dim).

Step C: Click the toe switch again so the turquoise  EXP 2 light is on.

Step D: On the touchscreen, tap the Wah to turn it OFF (dim) and tap the Volume to turn it ON (bright).

4. Critical Final Step: Save

Press the physical SAVE button on the top right of the unit twice. The Stadium XL will now remember that "EXP 1" means "Wah Mode" and "EXP 2" means "Volume Mode."

Verification

When you are in EXP 1, the pedal controls the Wah, and your Volume block is bypassed (leaving your signal at full volume).

When you click the toe switch to EXP 2, the Wah turns off, and the pedal now behaves as a Volume pedal.

Note on "Volume Jumps": If your volume jumps to 100% when you switch to Wah, ensure that in Global Settings > Switches/Pedals, your EXP 1/2 Position are set to "Preset" rather than "Global."

General Questions/Discussion Audible click with Helix ?

So I plan to sync our band with my Helix LT and aside using it for vocal effects on Send 1 I want to generate an audible click to our drummer (via Send 2 to his IEMs). We have a mixer with plenty of channels and 6 IEM mixes. How would I generate a click tone ? I have the tempo set for every track in the preset, bot how would I generate a periodic signal out of it ? Without playing a single tone on my bass ? Our (unfortunately deceased) guitarist used delay and a short plucked note to give us the tempo, I could do that, too, but maybe there is a more elegant way. Or maybe L6 could simply add a click function, should not eat much DSP or memory... (no I don't need to buy a Stadium for my bass although it would be tempting)

Tone/Feature Demo Cloud Librarian is here — the most requested Helrig feature, live now (+ Helrig 1.0)

Post image
20 Upvotes

Cloud Librarian is live — the single most-requested feature since I started posting here, and by a wide margin.

Full video walkthrough, with timestamps for every feature: https://youtu.be/KBPwTT3fap8

Save your presets to your account, organized by setlists, searchable by the actual gear in your chain, with labels and notes attached. Access from any device.

To be clear up front: the editor itself is still fully free and still doesn't need an account for anything — that's not changing. Cloud Librarian is optional, and it's the only part that needs sign-in.

Free — up to 10 presets in Cloud Librarian, still $0
Pro — unlimited presets, 250MB storage. Available monthly or billed annually.

Since a bunch of you have been here since the early threads and specifically asked for this: first 50 people to subscribe annually get founding member status — a lifetime 50% discount, for as long as they stay subscribed — code FOUNDING50L at checkout.

This was already on my roadmap, but at least five of you asked for it separately across Reddit, Facebook, and YouTube before it shipped — so, this one's for you.

Also shipped in this release — Helrig 1.0, out of beta:

  • Undo/redo + full edit history, in plain language
  • Overview — fits your whole chain on screen, even on a phone
  • Rebuilt mobile UI — real hold-and-drag, sticky headers, filters in a sheet
  • MIDI CC control over block bypass — now survives device conversion too
  • Tempo + tap tempo, storable per snapshot
  • Import straight from an HX Edit backup or setlist file, with setlists rebuilt automatically
  • Convert between Helix/HX Stomp/HX Effects is fully out of beta — smarter dialog shows real catalog names and DSP cost for what gets dropped

helrig.com — Cloud Librarian is live now, code FOUNDING50L for founding member pricing if you're in the first 50 annual sign-ups.

Unofficial/independent project — not affiliated with or endorsed by Line 6 or Yamaha.

Free Preset/IR Sharing my Pod Go preset for Glam/Hard Rock

Post image
5 Upvotes

Last week i uploaded a preset that i developed and use for 80's Glam and Hard Rock. Tried to be the faithful as possible to the gear used that time, so it's a JCM800 with a SD-1, plate reverb, snapback delay and Dimension C chorus. Thanks to high/low input of Brit 2203, i managed to get both distorted and clean tones in snapshots on the same preset. There's a empty block if you want to add a Phaser or a Compressor, or anything that DSP can handle.

Sounds wonderful with my 90's Charvel, but it may need some eq changes with different guitars (and i probably will dial that eq cause i just can be 100% satisfied). Hope it can help someone.

I'm open for tips and feedbacks. Thanks!

General Questions/Discussion Powering HX Stomp with MXR Mini ISO

Sure this has been asked but I can't seem to find a direct answer.

Just put together a mini board to travel with. Bought a MXR mini iso brick off facebook marketplace and a voodoo labs current doubler to plug the stomp in. I haven't played around with it too much but the unit powers on and works find using two 300 mA ports.

I'm assuming this won't be reliable though and I'm wondering if anyone has combined a 300 mA and the 800 mA ports on the mxr mini using the current doubler into the HX Stomp. I read a few things about the power supply not being reliable or safe with pedals. I'm also concerned about the 9V/18V switch.

Would love to hear other peoples experience with this specific power supply and if it's safe to use.

Thanks!

All my other devices stay at a stable tempo but my Helix Stadium XL changes tempo very consistently 🫠
