Not sure if I’d be allowed to post this within this Subreddit, but there is a connection to LOTR, and I want to share it specifically with my LOTR community.

This, my friends, is what was preparing me for my live long love and dedication to LOTR and Tolkien at 6 years old. Still few years until I would watch The Lord of the Rings for the first, meanwhile the 6 year old me is discovering the Medieval aesthetic through Redwall. A medieval fortress where mice fight off rats, a story about a hidden and forgotten sword of Martin the Warrior, and prophecies coming true. Friend’s child is currently watching it, and its coming up in my memory again.

Also, took me by shock, they don’t shy away from the concept of death, heroic for the good guys and shameful for the bad guys. There’s also concepts of slavery, human trafficking (or mice trafficking), innocent victims.

So anyone with children out there, put it on and you’ll enjoy it just as much.

I remember watching LOTR as a child and how much Frodo, along with other characters who enhanced my viewing experience making me fall inlove with this masterpiece.

At his age, Elijah Wood did an impeccable job at portraying Frodo, and the keen eye of Peter Jackson to recognize the potential.

Is there any other character portrayals who displayed these amazing range of facial expressions

I have a yearly tradition that on September 1st I start reading The Lord of the Rings. I look forward to this tradition every year as it provides a nice sense of calm and comfort which I feel is appropriate for the welcoming of autumn.

I guess it the first ever edition in Kurdish. Will be hard to get but I will do my best to get at least 5 copies

I first read the trilogy when I was 14. That’s several decades to go now :-)

When the movies came out, I did not revisit them because I wanted to experience the movies on their own and not worry about adaptation differences.

Then I loved the movies so much I didn’t want to go back and reread the books because I remembered some sections as painful to slog through… Mostly the songs. But I watch the movies at least once a year, usually several times a year.

This year I decided to read the audiobooks, the Andy Serkis versions of particular, and I must say they are fantastic. Even the long songs come to life in a way that is exciting.

I know I’m missing some of the deft language and setting my own pace, but I think this is gonna become an annual habit to revisit the audiobooks before the annual habit of watching the extended edition movies over Christmas break.

So if, like me, you haven’t revisited the books in a long time, or perhaps not ever, give those audiobooks a try.

At least twice in the movies, and presumably in the books, waves of cavalry charge headlong into rows of pikemen with braced pikes, spears, and what have you.

How could the first rank of cavalry hope to survive? At the very least you'd think most of the horses would be killed, their riders unhorsed, and then the ranks of cavalry behind them have to leap over the growing carnage.

Yet in the movies the cavalry just rides over and through the infantry (Orc-fantry?) with hardly a bump.

Is this total dramatic license, or historically plausible? Any experts here? Thanks!

My wife decorated the hobbit-inspired bookshelf that I made for her. She isn’t sure if she wants to keep it all Tolkien related or add other books and knickknacks. She also read a comment that suggested we paint the wall. It turned out gorgeous!

Not in great shape obviously, but when I found all 3 at the bottom of a $1 bin - I about lost my mind!

Once a year, for the past fifteen or so years, I always re-read the trilogy and it always seems that some of the happiest memories I've made are done during these times. For example I bought this volume right before my youngest son was born and read it during that tense waiting time in the hospital, other times I've started about this time of year to kick off the Renaissance Faire season and welcome in fall, I was dead in the middle of the two towers when I met my wife, any time I read them at work or out in public I always met countless others who would come to and tell me how much they loved Tolkien as well. This year im reading it as a bedtime story to my youngest for the first time. When I opened it tonight I found a bookmark that was made and given out for a friend's funeral and it took me back to the good times i had with him. These masterpieces have effected my life in only the most positive way and I just wanted to take the time to show my gratitude. Happy reading everyone.

also is it likely that they could have teamed up if smaug wasn't killed?

Was immensely lucky to score this ultra rare model in a charity shop for £20, beyond thrilled with it, but I just want to fix it. To my knowledge there are six breaks, the only one which significantly concerns me is the lack of an eye at the top. I've never attempted any form of model restoration before, so I was hoping you might have some advice on how to fix it. I'm not looking to protect its resale value, just to make it look even nicer than it already does. Photos 8 and 9 are of a random mint copy i found on ebay. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Lots of people make jokes about the eagles in the story, as if it's a plot hole. Tolkien explains this, the eagles were actually doing a lot, but I don't believe he mentions what I'm going to suggest.

The eagles were shocked to see the Nazgul on winged beasts, suddenly the enemy could fly and attack them in their domain.

Pretty much, the eagles acted as spies and searchers for the most part, usually at the request of great beings like Gandalf or Galadriel. But at the Battle of the Black Gate, I bet Gwahir and his brother were not going to share the sky with the Nazgul, now that they have appeared on winged beasts. The Nazgul were challenging the eagles domain.

Just a pet theory of mine. :)

Hi all!

I have all of the character art cards they’ve slowly been releasing and love them. I want to put them up but am struggling in choosing a good frame.

I know they’re 5 x 7 so I’m planning on 8 x 10 frames with matting.

I’m thinking of putting up a 3 x 3 grid up of the fellowship.

Has anyone bought these and framed them as well? And if so, what frames did you end up going with?

Im devastated. I bought a silly Gandalf hat and a pipe.
