Ask Lubbock The Range
Am currently discussing the driving range out on 130th Indiana with an old college friend.
25 years ago there was a driving range way out south in basically the same area. He just doesn’t seem to remember it. Feel like I’m having a Mandela Effect moment here. Need someone to say they remember it.
Also feel like there may have been a skating rink out there as well.

You might be thinking of stonegate. It was a 9 hole golf course with a driving range right on the corner of 114th and Indiana. They also had a par 3 course as well.

It wasn’t Stonegate. I got my fill of there plenty back then.
It was more of someone’s little project out of the back of there house.

That place was great! I don’t remember the name of it. We always called it Tin Cup, and the owner would bet you a 6 pack of beer that you couldn’t make it in the trash can.

YES!!! I always went early morning and just rang a bell to pay him on his back porch.
Very much Tin Cup

There used to be a shooting range off 116th and Indiana. Just northeast of where The Range is now. I dont remember the name of it for sure but > have always thought it was also The Range, just the old location.

That was Stonegate Golf Course. Long gone…

Nope. Stonegate was on the wrong side of the road and direction. The comment below remembers the same thing. The Range just moved a little south and west to where it is now.

Yes, there was a range out by the rink. Owned by a local legend on the area courses. Guy was a natural, sometimes you paid, sometimes was the honor system, and many times just help yourself.
We were hitting into the dark one evening, and he would hit the balls back. Like a robot they all landed right in front of us.
Maybe Roland Adams?

Thanks!
Vaguely remember that name now, it was in the late 80’s when I left Tech.
Any background on Greg, former golf career, etc?

He played Golf at Tech and supposedly was pretty good at one time. Grew up at the Lubbock CC and rumored he was a little hell raiser. Had a wealthy father that tried to help him. He couldn’t stay sober and struggled. When sober he was a nice guy and a pretty solid golf instructor.

There was the Range at about 116th & Indiana. Land owner didn't renew their lease and they moved down the road to 122nd. Doesn't quite have the same vibe but the facility is nicer.

There is a bar/restaurant/driving range on 122nd and Indiana called The Range. And yes right next to it is a skating rink.

Ok cool. Yeah 25 years ago there was still a Driving range there but it was most definitely not The Range. Just wanted to make sure I’m not going crazy

Yes, you would turn where the new goodwill is and go to the end of that street, I think it's 116th.
It started very basic back then but was growing . They had a cool live music area, and some batting cages too before they moved to where it is now.
Same business, it just grew and changed a bit, and moved quite literally right next door.

The Range used to be about 5 blocks north until they bought their own land. Maybe thats what youre thinking?

The Range bought the driving range you’re talking about. About 5-6 years ago The Range had an issue with the lease agreement and decided to cut ties. They moved a block or two south. The old range you’re thinking of is just north of where the new The Range currently sits.
