I just want to say "Thank you"
(Edited and corrected grammar in AI)
I don't usually post things like this, but I owe you a thank you.
I spent ten years in Bangalore before moving to Canada, then landed a job in Ireland and moved again. Not long after, the company lost the contract I was working under, and overnight I had no job and no laptop, since the machine belonged to them. New country, no income, no computer, and a lot going on at home that couldn't wait.
I picked up a couple of small freelance jobs but had no money for a decent machine, so I bought a cheap refurbished ThinkPad. Windows was slow on it. Ubuntu wasn't much better. I barely knew Linux back then, so I went searching for something lighter.
That's how I found Lubuntu. Installed it, and I ran all my freelance work on that little laptop for a few months while I prepared for interviews, and eventually landed a tech lead role at a big MNC.
That was three years ago. I'm still there. They gave me a shiny new work laptop, but the one I actually reach for is that cheap refurbished ThinkPad, still running Lubuntu, still my daily driver.
So this is just a thank you. To the people who build and maintain this thing , you helped a stranger through one of the hardest stretches of his life and never knew it. That means more than I can put here.

Trying to save this old girl from the trashcan, any advice to a Linux noob?
I've installed the latest version of Lubuntu because it was struggling with windows 8.1 I tried tiny 10 but it didn't even recognize the boot drive.
I want to use it mostly for college, will it run google docs and Microsoft teams? Or am I wasting my time?

Screen brightness slider not working on Acer Aspire E1-572 (LXQt / Lubuntu)
Hi everyone,
Reporting a screen brightness control issue on my Acer Aspire E1-572 (Intel Core i5-4200U / Intel HD 4400) running Lubuntu.
The brightness slider in the power settings / tray panel changes the percentage value on screen, but the physical panel backlight stays locked at 100% brightness.
Leaving this feedback so the LXQt / Lubuntu community and developers are aware of this ACPI backlight issue on older Acer laptops. Thanks!

Support Request ๐ Why can't I get Chromium to auto-start when I turn on my computer running Lubuntu?
Running Lubuntu based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS with LXQt version 0.17.0
I added Chromium via snap install in the command line and it works fine. Then added Chromium to autostart by going to to Preferences -> LXQt Settings -> Session Settings then selected the Autostart tab on the left. I have added Chromium to Global Autostart by pointing to the desktop file in the GUI options (menu://applications/internet/chromium_chromium.desktop) as well as adding it to LXQt Autostart inside the Application Autostart box, logged out, logged in and rebooted. Yet it doesn't auto-start Chromium upon boot-up every day when I turn my computer on. Does anyone have a suggestion how I might fix this?

Question about volume controls
A few days ago I posted about getting a Microsoft Surface Laptop SE and installing Lubuntu on it. Everything is working great but there is one annoyance I was wondering if someone can help me find a solution for.
After I installed lubuntu I noticed that the volume up and down keys weren't working, the mute button worked fine. I went into keyboard shortcuts and saw that shortcuts existed that should make them work but they didn't. I simply changed the shortcuts to the volume up and down keys plus the function key and they worked, problem solved, almost. They keys only work to control the built in speakers on the laptop but I also use a USB speaker and bluetooth earbuds, for those the volume controls do nothing. To change the volume on these devices I have to open up Pulse Audio and change the volume there. Does anyone know of a way to have the volume control keys work for whatever output device I happen to be using at the moment?

Lubuntu is great!
A few days ago I purchased a new Microsoft Surface Laptop SE for barely over $100.00 US. It's a rather nice looking machines but it has terrible specs. 4gb of ram, a Celeron N4120 processor, a 64gb SSD, and a 1mp camera, it's really kind of crappy, but it was cheap! I was looking for a machine that was small, and that could handle really simple stuff like watching videos and checking email and act as a white noise generator through Sox, when I travel. I decided to try out Lubuntu and it has been perfect. I use Fedora and KDE Plasma on my desktop so LXQT took a little bit of work to figure out, but now everything works great and it does exactly what I need it to. So thanks to all the Lubuntu developers!

Support Request ๐ Weird installation bugs?
Iโm trying to install Lubuntu on an old HP laptop (originally Win7, now only Lubuntu 24.04).
- USB made with Rufus (MBR, โBIOS or UEFIโ, fixes for old BIOS, ISO mode).
- In BIOS: UEFI mode**, Secure Boot disabled,**SATA = AHCI, HDD is first in boot order.
- I boot from USB with F12, run the Lubuntu installer and choose โErase disk and install Lubuntu(second install attempt)โ (minimal install).
Weird part:
- With the USB plugged in, the laptop boots into the installed Lubuntu on the HDD (Bulgarian language we set earlier), so the OS is definitely there.
- If I shut down, remove the USB, and power on, it says โNo bootable deviceโ, even though BIOS shows the HDD first and the installer sees the existing Lubuntu install.
Any idea how to fix this it loaded the first time we tried it now it switches to a black screen with a single line to write code at different points (even in safe graphics)
EDIT SOLVED
Had to go to F2 bios menu go to security and mark the efi file or boot file as trusted after that we just reinstalled lubuntu on uefi gpt flash for bios and disk

Support Request ๐ Lubuntu didnโt boot up after installation?
Iโm installing Lubuntu on my friendโs dadโs old Windows 7 laptop.
We made a Lubuntu USB with Rufus on Windows (selected the USB, selected the ISO, left all other settings at default, clicked Start).
On the laptop, the BIOS was first set to Legacy boot, and in Legacy mode the laptop did not detect the USB in the boot menu.
We then went into BIOS and changed boot mode from Legacy to UEFI After that, the USB was detected.
We booted from the USB in UEFI mode, chose โInstall Lubuntuโ, selected the option to erase the whole disk and install Lubuntu, and completed the installation. At the end it said:
โPlease remove installation media and press Enter.โ
We removed the USB, pressed Enter, the laptop rebooted, and then it showed:
โNo bootable deviceโ (no operating system found) instead of starting Lubuntu.
Ai I not giving me a straight answer we just need it to boot we installed and set up everything

[ 0.003595] No irq handler for 1.55 (Lubuntu 26.04)
This message has been appearing on computers using AMD E1-2100 processors (desktop) and AMD E-300 processors (laptop). It appears when booting from a Live USB or when starting the laptop. The system works perfectly fine, but it always takes longer to boot because this message appears. What can I do to fix this?

Support Request ๐ Lubuntu noob question
Hi, I am a new Linux user and I am using lubuntu for my first ever Linux experience. I just had a question which may be a dumb question but my laptop has 4gb of ram. On windows task manager it would show up at x/3.8 when looking at ram usage. But on lybuntu it shows up at 3.59.
Did I download lubuntu incorrectly? Because it seems to have less available ram or a lower ram limit than windows did.
Please and thanks ๐

Support Request ๐ Slightly harder to install than anticipated
Tried to install, but denied due to "no partition to install to". So, I jumped into KDE partition manager to delete the old one, but it doesn't show up.
Now the weird part.
I restart and pull the USB stick to see if I can confirm the issue. But, it boots straight into the current Lubuntu OS already installed (I'm trying to do a clean install).
My uneducated guess is the hard drive isn't mounting on boot, but I don't have much knowledge past that. Can anyone figure out what I'm missing?

XD

Support Request ๐ Driver issues?
Hello guys. So, I installed Lubuntu on my Lenovo Ideapad 330 Intel Celeron N4000 laptop. And, it runs smoothly but a lot of things didn't work straight of the bat. Like, the trackpad which I eventually fixed and I didn't bother to fix the other stuff. But, now these things are starting to grow on me and I want to know if there's any fix for them. For starter, the functions keys aren't working. I can't light up the screen or lower it. Secondly, I can't control the volume when I am on my Bluetooth earphones I can only control the volume when I am on the PC speakers. Thirdly, when I close the lid it would only show the sleep screen rather then turning off after some time which drains the battery.
If any know fixes for these let me know. I really want to keep using the OS. And, Thank You.
