Help [ The Big List of MQ Links ]

MQ links live here, as the MQ website can be an overwhelming maze. Its purpose is to provide you an easy, and more direct place to find links to common topics that may be relevant to you during your time at MQ.

This list will change over time, and I'll endeavour to keep it updated when time allows.

If there is a topic that you believe is missing, or if a link is outdated, please DM me. It may take me some time to update it, and I thank you for your patience.

If you need to find something urgently and it is not on this list, the internet is your friend. Search "[keyword] mq" and it is usually your first result. For example, search "transcript mq" if you want more information about transcripts.

The list focuses on topics that a student may encounter in their academic life cycle, such as forms, applications and policies. It will be separate from other posts already found in this subreddit that focus on social events, campus life, and student groups.

Social Macquarie University Weekly Societies & Meetups Advertising Post

Welcome to the 'Macquarie University Weekly Societies & Meetups Advertising Post' (or the M.U.W.S.M.A.P for short)
___

Here students and societies alike can arrange or outline their intended events, gatherings and meetups for the week to come!

We politely ask that any societies (or people on behalf of societies) limit themselves to one advertising comment per week as to not bury posts by individuals (editing existing comments are allowed). And that individuals advertising their own event (be them just meeting up on campus or something more elaborate), make sure to keep their suggested meetups appropriate and vaguely in-keeping with Uni guidelines (IE: no organising drug deals which I have already had to previously remove).

I hope people and societies alike are able to make the most of these posts, and I wish you all luck in meeting your fellow students!

{Note: This is purely an advertising post, r/MacUni and its modteam cannot assure the validity or outcome of any posts/comments made on our subreddit, it is up to the individual to use their best judgement to discern the expectations of any advertised events/encounters.}

Help Educational Background on Estudent is wrong for a postgraduate application

Hi all, just wondering if anybody knows how to edit or change your educational background on estudent, my information is missing a lot of important parts including my current degree which I am in my final study period of at Macquarie (which makes no sense), I need this information for my application to the masters of teaching (secondary) course to get a conditional offer which I have been told by postgraduate enrolment that I can apply for, also does anyone know why it is asking for English Language Proficiency information, my undergraduate degree that I am currently completing is taught In English and is from Macquarie university which is one of the two options, so I am unsure why it is asking me for test results like I am an international student, if anyone has any info I would really appreciate it as I really want to apply as early as possible to not have any issues.

I’d love to do a Bach of Commerce next year, but I received a D in maths standard last year. i’m wondering if it’s still possible and if the fact I have improved significantly in year 12 in all areas means much.

I’m also interested in a bach of business

General Question How likely is it that I get accepted after an average GS interview

Context: I graduated from a Bsc in Psychology from a UK university in Dubai and applied for Macquarie’s Masters of Clinical Neuropsychology.

I had my GS interview today, and i was asked questions regarding my family’s and sponsor’s finances, other kinds of funds that we have etc etc. Then I was asked why I chose Australia and specifically this university for this course, which i was able to answer. She then proceeded to ask me detailed questions about the course structure and the services they provide and I kind of went blank on that, I was able to answer a bit but I think i just got too nervous (I was already extremely anxious before the interview started) and couldn’t say anything more.

After the questions were done she told me that my finances were good and that’s not an issue at all, however my answers regarding my reason for studying at Macquarie were “dissatisfactory”. She said she wouldn’t be rejecting my application and she told me specific things I need to prepare on if I am being interviewed by a visa officer. Lastly she told me that they’d get back to me in a week asking for financial documents or sometimes they just give an offer letter directly.

I know she said she didn’t reject my application outright but I can’t stop stressing over the what ifs. This probably weakened by application but I don’t know to what extent. I wasn’t completely clueless about what the course has to offer but I just totally blanked out when she asked me about it. I just want to know If i still have a chance of being accepted or if it would be significantly low now.

Degree Question 5 years to complete my degree, is this normal?

I just want to get some opinions on the current state of my study. I am currently studying full-time and am planning to switch my degree to another one. I have currently completed 150 units in 3 years (my first year was an undergraduate certificate) at Macquarie, and I am planning to complete the other 90 over 2 years (due to a majority being 3000 level and me wanting to score well for the degree I am changing to). Is this normal?

Degree Question psych honours

i’ve tried to do as much research as possible but i really cannot get a clear idea on the WAM structure for honours entry.

i’m aware it’s a minimum 75 wam, but is still competitive so the higher the wam the better, but for what subjects are included??

is all 240cp? or only the core units? i am also 2026 entry so i am on the new major structure, which are all psych relevant (no flexi zone). i think i have like 2 electives that i can do anything??

Academic Help ACCG2051

Hi guys,

The ACCG2051 (Governance, Business and Corporations Law) is coming up next week and I would love some advice. I can't lie I lowkey skipped a lot of my tutorials so idk if they already spoke about it in class (entirely my fault I know). From what I can see on ILearn the lecture is in slides and the tutorials have questions on a document. Is there any other way to study for this other than going over the lectures and answering/memorising the tutorial questions? Also, do we need to memorise cases, not sure what kind of set up the quiz is...

Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

Thanks!!!

Help 30cp instead of 40cp?

I want to change from 40cp per sem to 30cp, but I don’t really know how it works in terms of making up the extra 20cp per year. Do you have to do summer school or do you do only 2 classes in the next year’s first semester?

General Question Finishing Degree

Hey guys,

I’m anticipated to complete my course this semester and wanted to check if there was a way to confirm and make sure everything is finalised and sorted from the uni’s perspective prior.

Is there any way to check that I’m on track such on estudent etc. I have completed all required units (excluding the ones I’m currently attending) achieving the credits required and just want to make sure as a precaution. Had a few friends who have experience problems with units and really want to avoid that.

Cheers!

Help Short Film

Hey everyone! I’m a macquarie student making a short film and I’m currently in the very glamorous stage of filmmaking where I’m trying to convince people that my tiny budget is, in fact, a budget.

I’m looking for some funding to help cover things like locations, props, costumes, and all the other little costs that magically appear once you start making a film.

It’s a project I’m genuinely really excited about, and I’d love to get it off the ground with the support of people from our uni community. Even a small contribution would help massively. If you can’t donate, sharing it would mean a lot too!

If anyone’s interested in helping a fellow student make something cool I’d be eternally grateful. 🎥❤️

Degree Question Minimum Entry Requirement using Uni results?

Hi! I’m looking to apply for Bachelor of Actuarial Studies for Sem 1 next yr, I couldn’t find anything other than the minimum selection rank online but just wondering historically what was the minimum WAM/GPA equivalent for considered entry into the program? For context, i’m currently a third yr undergrad economics student at unsw (major in data analytics and econometrics), where I currently have a Credit average WAM, and my ATAR was 79.95 which is already too low to be considered for entry.

Though I might was well apply for postgrad masters or actuarial prac, I’d prefer undergrad since does have CSP rather than full fee paying.

General Question Stressed - Early Entry / L&A

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hey guys, I’m trying to find people who’ve gotten into macquarie with similar marks as mine. I am absolutely terrified of not getting in because of how disadvantaged (family issues) I’d felt during year 11 and well into year 12. The courses I’ve applied for are:

  1. Cybersecurity
  2. Science
  3. Arts and Science
  4. Criminology
  5. IT

I am also curious to see if anyone got offers through SRS and not from Leaders and Achievers.

Degree Question Electrical Engineering Here?

Hello everyone, hope you're all doing well.

Just did some research and can't find much on accreditation as well as how the electrical degree is run here at Mac Uni. It also seems to be electrical and electronics engineering, which idk, is that pure electrical engineering?

For context I'm just thinking of transferring here from UNSW, just cos I live less than a 10 minute walk away from here whilst it takes me over 1 hour and 30 min to get to UNSW through numerous public transport options. Also the fact that UNSW may just be a bit too hard for me and well... I'm just wondering if there are any high fail rate courses here, why they are hard specifically and if it's even meaningfully easier than UNSW.

I don't really care about the social life or quality of teaching tbh. Just the passability of courses, how reasonable the hurdles and the like are as well as maybe some employment outcomes. I know electrical engineering will be decent enough in the future, I mean, I know for sure humans aren't going to stop using electricity anytime soon but I just wanted to know after graduating if mac uni electrical engineering grads are also getting jobs. I don't want to be a great hero or anything, I just want a humble job in power or something with just enough to get by.

I've done my own research and that will come into my decision but I also wanted to hear from the people on here, since the uni websites tend to idealise things a lot more and make themselves look a lot better. Any serious advice would be much appreciated, ty all!
