This was happening to me when I got my brother pe900 and there were a couple of things I did to fix it:
1: change the needle to an embroidery needle, I used the SCHMETZ gold plated titanium embroidery needle size 75/11, I was initially using universal needles and my thread kept breaking
2: the #6 guide bar has a small spring to hold the thread in place and when you change your needle it can sometimes move, mine did so I had to manually put it back
3: tighter hooping, getting the fabric and stabilizer tighter in the hoop helped a lot as well.
Ive only had my machine for about a month but I haven’t had issues since!

I'm not used to these small machines but shouldn't the presser foot press firmly on the fabric to keep it stabilized during stitching? It seems yours are always up, far from the fabric? On industrial machines, it presses the fabric down with some force so the fabric doesn't jump up and down causing all he things you report+low quality embroidery.

Yes, I also thought the presser foot was set pretty high. With a thin woven and no appliques or such it should be set to the lowest possible setting.

This was happening to me on a different machine when I was using crappy Walmart embroidery thread. I changed to a better thread and it hasn't happened since

I’m just using the thread they supplied from brother but I’ll order some different stuff and give that a try

Are you using a quality embroidery thread?
Sometimes changing the needle helps, but this also looks like a tension issue.

Usually changing the needle fixes this, and making sure that the new needle is facing the correct way. Also check that the thread path from the spool is correct.

Try a new needle with different thread and see what happens.
