Getting Started complete beginner here, got a Caydo electric machine to test and i've never used one before. where do i even start?

Can you post a photo? I searched on the Caydo website and I don't see a electronic cirular machine. Is this a beta test product or is it something other than a circular knitting machine that is electronic? Typically circular knitting machines, like for socks like fingering weight yarn, with some variance up and down. As for flatbed knitting machine, that depends on the machine, as there are different models for different weight. But that is a different beast from a circular machine. Unless you are talking their icord? Or ball winder? I am not sure how we can help unless you post more info about the machine.

ha, yes, that's exactly it, an electric sentro-ish circular machine. solid detective work 😄 i clearly should have led with a photo. thank you!

From the sounds of it, you should keep to fingering weight yarn. Now the key to circular machines is keeping enough weight to pull down so the stitches don't jump off the needles. You also need a set up bonnet, which helps get started. I would watch circular knitting machines videos on YT to get an idea of some of the techniques and you can see if they can help you. I am very intrigued by this machine 🤣 not that I need another.

this is really useful, thank you. the keep-enough-weight-to-pull-down tip especially, i can already see how stitches jumping off would be the first disaster. i'll go hunting for circular machine videos on youtube before i even open the box. and ha, that's the danger isn't it, one machine leads to another 😄

Oh it is a danger. I own many machines 🤣Circular and flatbed knitting machines. They are addictive as they are hair pulling frustrating. However if you don't mind the fun of tinkering then you will have fun learning your new machine.

it was sent to me to test rather than something i bought, so i can't take any credit for finding it 😄 i think it's quite a new and niche one, which is probably why it isn't showing up in your searches. i'll report back on whether it's any good once i've actually had a go with it.

I use my sentro 48 machine solely for knitting hats with leftover yarn. when I have a big enough hat pile I find somewhere to donate them. on the sentro I knit knit with worsted yarn maybe 120 row total for a double layer hat with a folded brim. I run the yarn end through the live stitches at the end and through the cast on edge at the start and cinch it all together I always feel like the fabric it makes is a bit too lose, but I don't think it could handle thicker yarn or any more tension on the worsted weight yarn. Doubled up it. make a decent winter hat.

You don't need a setup bonnet for this style machine, thats for a sock machine. You can find videos on how to cat on pretty esaily on youtube. Basicly you wrap the yarn around every other needle and you will get a stable cast on. You could cast on with waste yarn and then switch to your working yarn if you want to have live stitches at each end of your project.

I am hoping they price this machine well because my sentro is starting to wear out.

this is exactly the kind of hands-on detail i was after, thank you so much. hats from leftover yarn and then donating the pile is such a lovely use for it. good to know the cast-on is doable without a setup bonnet too, i'd seen that mentioned and wasn't sure. worsted doubled for a folded-brim hat is going straight on my first-projects list.

I think this is a new product and not officially launched yet, did you get it as a tester?

If you look for Addi or Sentro tutorials on YouTube there’s plenty! It’s a lot of fun to crank out panels or tubes with whatever random yarn you have lying around, pretty easy to unwind or reknit if you don’t want to use it.
