I am a college student. CS Department. Nowadays, there is an hype of AI. Everywhere you'll find SHIT posts on building softwares using AI and all that stuff.

Being a student when I retrospect myself, I found that I have a lot tearn and identified my shortcomings regarding skills.

People are talking about Claude Code, Codex and all these SHIT softwares like these. I've tried Claude Code and honestly it's a SHIT.

I am in final year of my college and I see my peers getting placed. Due to certain reasons, not eligible to apply for most of the companies on campus. I've applied for job roles on LinkedIn and Internshala. But what I've observed is that platforms like LinkedIn, Internshala, Instagram are absolute SHIT. I tried to reach out people on LinkedIn for sone sort of guidance but no response. I am getting repeated rejections from companies.

I follow few YouTube channels for learning. But even YouTube is polluted because of some SHIT USA and Indian AI Marketing YouTubers and ads and also many AI companies founders. I found that I'm binge-watching.

These are my raw thoughts.

I see that AI Engineering roles on demand right now. If some good, genuinely experienced people are reading this, I just want to get some guidance. Like, how would you advice me to skill up myself.

I am looking for honest practical advice (no sugar coating) on pursuing a research program in AI from premier institutions in India (especially IISc) from the alumni who have done their MTech / MTech(Research) / PhDs in AI from here.

I know some IITs and IISc have some of the best AI departments in India but given status of the R&D culture in India (especially in AI) and the overwhelming claims that push you to look for opportunities outside India, I wanted to know the real picture here. How much is truth, how much is just boasting? How much worth it is to pursue a research program from these institutes thus asking following questions:

1. How does it feel like doing AI research from here?
2. How much transformation do you think you have gone through while working here.
3. What kind of support (technical/moral/exposure/openness to ideas) one can expect from their research leads? Was the support enough or you felt u r lacking the required attention.
4. Is there anything that u felt was not worth putting effort or was purely unnecessary or seems outdated in the context of gaining research skills during your journey?
5. What kind of AI research is conducted here? What's the scope of it?
6. How competent is the research conducted here when it comes to SOTA research topics. Are we still doing niche applied research or we have done some core research that advances the field itself.

Some background:

1. I am a BTech[CSE] grad from tire-3 institution, have 2 years of full-time experience as SDE-1 at a decent firm with a decent pay. I happily enjoyed my industry experience but soon it got me bored.
2. I always like to answer to open-ended questions in science thus have slowly realized that my deeper interest have always been aligned somewhat towards research and with the recent technological leap in the field of AI has again sparked my curiosity.
3. I am an avid believer of the fact that you can only understand something truly that u can create. Creating intelligence is just another way to understand our own intelligence.
4. Initially I thought of directly applying to research programs across the world (like MATS, SPAR, ARENA, fellowship programs in frontier labs etc.) which completely skip the traditional path (grad -> masters -> phd) for a research career as they don't specifically ask for a Masters or PhD but I guess they do ask for some prior research background which I certainly lack. Also getting into these programs is extremely competitive (tougher than getting an admission into IITs / IISc through GATE).
5. Most importantly I realized one would eventually need to get guidance/supervision, be a part of the community to get faster feedbacks. Also, AI research is resource intensive (Collab won't work everytime, you will need GPUs) and one can get all these things at once by joining a research program at a premier research institution. Thus I am thinking of going for higher education in India hence the reason for my post.

Recent AI/ML MSc grad (India), finishing up. Looking for honest perspectives on a decision I've mostly made.

Background: ~1.6 years across three internships — mostly NLP/LLM systems (speech pipelines, RAG, LLM observability) and some geospatial ML (foundation model evaluation on satellite imagery). My core strength/interest is NLP/speech/LLM and geospatial.

The offer: A full-time role at an established IIoT / startup (~40 people). The work is more on the signal processing / time-series / anomaly detection side — sensor data, predictive maintenance. Slightly outside my core domain, so there'd be a learning curve.

Comp: Fair for entry-level in my market i do feel else am i wrong here— starts around 6.5LPA, bumps up after a 3-month probation. ( like that they mentioned up )

My thinking: I'm entry-level, so getting employed + learning a new domain (time-series, signal processing are transferable ML skills) seems worth it, even if it's not my dream area. The founder personally negotiated to bring me in, which felt like a good sign. I have a couple of better-domain-fit leads still in progress but unsigned.

1. For a first job, how much does domain fit actually matter vs. just getting solid experience?

Real numbers instead of the usual hot take.

Anthropic's annualized revenue run rate went from roughly $1B in early 2025 to $14B by February 2026 to reportedly north of $30B by April, per Reuters, driven mostly by enterprise API and Claude Code subscriptions.

CNBC reported Claude Code's own run rate hit $2.5B, with enterprise accounting for more than half of that. Anthropic's Dario Amodei has said around 80% of the company's business is now enterprise, and credits Claude Code as a big part of why.

None of that tells you what it's actually being used for though. This part does: the Pragmatic Engineer's Feb 2026 survey of 15,000 developers found that among people using both Claude Code and GitHub Copilot, 61% rated Claude Code more accurate for complex debugging and refactoring, while 73% rated Copilot faster for routine code completion.

That's not two tools competing for the same job, that's two tools already specializing along exactly the line labor economists keep pointing at, routine execution vs contextual judgment.

Copilot's winning the "autocomplete my boilerplate" job. Claude Code is winning the "understand this legacy mess and fix it correctly" job. Stack Overflow's 2025 survey (65,000+ devs) found 84% of professional developers now use or plan to use AI coding tools at all, up from 76% the year before, so this isn't a niche behavior anymore, it's close to universal.

If that split holds, the actual hiring implication isn't "juniors are replaceable" or "juniors are fine," it's that the junior work worth paying for is shifting toward the debugging/refactoring/judgment side faster than most CS curricula have caught up to.
