My father actually did something very similar with me back then, also to rescue some puppies. In the process, I scraped off a large patch of skin on my stomach on a sharp, flat object, and a large nail left a scar about 15 cm long on the right side of my stomach.
Many years later, when I was getting to know women and they noticed the scar, I would always tell them this story, which is actually completely true. It usually went over pretty well.
