Fun trick recommendation

Hey - I've been out of magic for a few years now, but a friends birthday is coming up and he really likes magic.

Generally I could do a number of things with cards or coins for them - but just wondering if there is any new fun "toy" that I could spend a small amount of cash on for something new/different? I went to a couple of online stores and was a bit disappointed with what I saw, so would love to get some ideas.

Anything that's been released in the past couple of years preferably - not double cross or gimmicked coins ideally. I've enough of those lol.

PRISMATICA looks really fun, it's a sponge gimmick.

So far of the ones I've looked at, this is the most compelling - sadly seems to be sold out everywhere in the UK so don't think I'll get it by Monday :(

I don't have a suggestion, but I'm subscribing to this thread because it's a great question, and I'm curious to see the recommendations others will make.

Look at stuff from Trick Trick boom, Henry Harrius, & Craig Petty.

“Chop”, by Craig Petty. Not especially new, but quite unique.

I have Chop, never got around to learning it. Any alternative ending ideas if you don’t do the lemon reveal? He said he’d give one on the DVD but then never did

Chop is great, very versatile and relatively easy imo.

It seems so cringe I doubt anyone actually performs it.

Pulling out a random sharpie and calling it ur magic wand lol unless you can come up with your own patter that is not petty inspired

Sharpie quickie was an effect that I really enjoyed. Also check out phantom deck by Joshua Jay and combine it with tool by David Stone. Those are all absolute gold that are really fun to play around with.

Buy two decks of the same card, but different cards in each one.

Force one card from one deck, do as many impossible ambitious card routines as you like...

When they get bored/suspicious: hand them their card, do a sharpie/deck switch and get them to sign their card; say to them "should have done this earlier but this is to prove I'm not using a deck with all the same card".

Then do a legit ambitious card move or two and then say "I have to confess, I am using a deck with all the same card" turn the deck face up and spread it out and say "what I can't figure out is how you picked a different card".

I've always liked any "Do as I do" card tricks. A fun opener is to hand the deck for inspection, take it back and toss it up in the air, and take out a second deck, saying "OK, now let's do trick with THIS deck..." or something to that effect. Definitely puts a punch in the show, and gets everyone focused on YOU.
