Question Lands, right?

Post image

This was my hand at turn like 7 or 8. What a joke. 🤡 BTW 22 lands in decks.

It happens. But based on your hand, you probably should have mulliganed to make sure you had both your colors.

I'm a newish player and I'm always happy to see a guideline that I already follow without help. This is probably one of the easier ones to figure out, but it's still nice to see I'm getting the game.

Don't worry. I'm a 12 year veteran of the game and still lost plenty often at the mulligan.

You either started with one land or had both lands with the wrong color of your hand, yet you still decided to take the chance and still went with it.

It's on you.

You know that 'Mulligan' button you see when you draw your starting 7?
This is one of those time you should've used it. Keep that in mind for next time.

Also if you haven't already, run more dual lands in your deck.

It happena occasionally.

I just looked at a 9th place mtgo lifegain decklist and it runs 2 swamps, 3 plains, 1 rare token makong white land and everything else makes both black and white.

And it only runs 1 of those verge checklands that can't make white reliably.

So yes, people get unlucky and with enough people playing lifegain someone is bound to be that person.

But a good mana base makes things like this way more rare.

The only reason to run so many black sources is also due to running emptiness. A lot of versions right now are not playing emptiness but keeping the mana base. I prefer playing W on turn 1 and possibly WW on turn 2.

White has a fetcher: road goes on.

Keeping a hand with no white mana and only white cards is a clown deck pilot.

Statistically this is a normal probability. It's actually a kind of annoying part of the game. It happens at times, and is more annoying with multicolor.

  1. 22 isn't exactly a high land count, so it's more likely to draw fewer lands.

  2. You should mulligan to find a white source since that is the base color of most life gain decks

  3. Your mana base probably sucks. If that Village was any dual land, you would probably be in an ok spot

Aggro players complaining about mana screw grinds my gears. The shuffler is already giving your aggro deck an unfair advantage due to hand smoothing. If you don't want mana screw run more lands!

unpopular opinion: I agree it’s BS. Although everyone will give you a ton of shit for saying so. The garbage shuffler in this game can be a million times worse that any irl shuffle. They need to have some sort of non intrusive mechanic that prevents you from getting this land fucked

Won't work.

Because then the game will have to manipulate your deck so you get a certain number of land draws every X turns and not true random shuffles.

This will get figured out and manipulated with people making plays they normally would never do because they know there's a good chance that on the next turn they'll either draw a land or not.

They kept an opening hand with no lands that could cast their spells. Knowing when to mulligan is a skill, and this is 100% on them.

The shuffler is garbage. Look up the 13 land mono red deck. It was manipulating the Bo1 hand smoothing by getting enough lands in the opening hand to run the whole deck. Because they can't be bothered to just make your opening hands and draws pure rng.

Careful, that’s blasphemy!

Yup I always have doubles of the two copies I actually have doubles of in my deck and somehow at the start of every game both almost always come in my draw hand. Dumb.

The two land hand keeps are famous for never drawing another land. I see it with a lot of YouTubers as well.

People will call it statistics but there is definitely something fishy with the two land keeps. Happens more often than it should. Others have noticed it.
