I want to get my wife “good” makeup for Christmas but don’t know where to start.

My wife and I are getting each other 1 gift this Christmas. She had mentioned a few months ago that she wished she had “actual good makeup”, and I want to give her that for Christmas, I just don’t know where to start/don’t want to get scammed by advertising for mediocre products.

Would anyone be able to give me some leads to go off of? Thank you so much

Eyeshadow as Liner: Smaller Eyes

So I've been using eyeliner my whole life, and the older I get I have realized my eyes look so much better using eyeshadow as liner instead of pencils. I have smaller eyes slightly hooded and they seem to pop more with the shadow. It has a softer look for sure.

Does anyone else skip harsh eyeliners in favor of eyeshadow? Maybe I'm weird LOL!

I used to LOVE the sephora brand and then they changed their formula. I have tried elf, nyx, physicians formula. I am willing to spend some money on itbif it really stays all day. My eyes can be leaky sometimes!

Please send me your favorite last all day black liquid liner!

[Makeup Help] Advice for someone clueless but eager

Hi everyone! so, I’m thinking of using makeup I already own to help with confidence issues I’m having, and I’d like some pointers. See, one of my eyes is crooked and I beat myself up about it so badly, but I’m trying to get out of my head about it, and I’m thinking of using lip liner or eyeliner (because of it being pencil-like) to draw designs around that eye, in a sort of gothic fantasy character kind of way. However, I don’t have very steady hands or strong eyesight with my glasses off (wear glasses too!), so I’m wondering if anyone has advice about what to use, and how to make something like this easier for someone who’s never put on their own makeup. Thanks! <3

why don't lip products stay on my lips?

I have a problem where whenever I put a lip product on my lips it doesnt stick on 😭. It doesn't matter if it's matte lipstick, gloss, lip balm...etc. It also doesn't matter if it's cheap or good quality. Whenever I apply anything it sort of "slips" off my lips lol idk how to describe it. My lips also look gray and dull most of the time how can I fix this?

How can I do it?

I am 21 M,and I've always found women pretty and just amazing. The inner me always envy them to be so stunning and pretty. I am not gay or trans, but I also want to look pretty and try dresses and all. I have an eyeliner and a kajal which I've hidden and do not have many products. But I genuinely enjoy looking pretty. I want to try makeup and all but the problem is that I live with my family in a small house and there's always someone at home how can i try makeup. I am not very good at time because I do not get too much time, sometimes I just spend my whole time doing and trying makeup realising it's time to take it off or I'll get caught. My mother passed away long time ago so there are no products or dresses of her. Like I get very less time sometimes when I can do makeup and enjoy being pretty and just feel it,but alone it feels very odd. I feel like my female friend or someone should practice makeup on me but how do I really do it without explicitly asking them to do it?

Also give me some makeup tips to hide my beard shadow with use of less products.

[Makeup Help] Light coverage foundation recommendations

Please recommend me some good skin tint/light coverage foundations for combination skin. I have always been using full coverage foundations due to acne. However, since I’ve come off accutane I don’t really need to wear full coverage foundation anymore and I’m not sure which light coverage/CC creams or skin tints are best to use. Please advice.

[Makeup Help] grad pics: help!

I’m taking my graduation photos next week, but when i did another set of them for my diploma it was SO HOT and muggy i looked like a deep fried cake. I think I have the basics of my routine down, but I’d like to know what are those extra tips to elevate the makeup so I look pretty on camera. Not really down to buying a whole new makeup stash unless it’d be life changing.

Some tips a wedding MUA gave me were: solid skin prep, smashbox photofinish, dior something foundation??? (I have a sample of this one and the haus labs foundation) and powder powder powder (i use maybelline fit me translucent or the pressed powder). I use morphe creams to contour/bronze/etc.

What else can I do maximize the slay and look like a serious degree holder and pass down my photos like this was my aunt she was a diva and was NOT a deep fried cake.

Rhode blush shade equivilant to Merit mood?

Hello!

My daily blush for ages has been Merit flush balm in Mood, but the shade has been discontinued and I don't like how it's not very long lasting. I'm looking to switch to the Rhode pocket blushes, but I don't know which shade will be similar to what I've been using. I'm very pale with cool undertones and generally prefer darker/berry/cooler shades to light/baby pink/orangey ones.

Does anyone have a Rhode shade in mind that might be a good fit for me?

[Makeup Help] Make up compatibility

Hi guys im kinda new here but i really need help in choosing products before changing up my make up routine
I have dry skin and my make up gets dry and patchy around my mouth and under my eyes and i have pigmentation on those areas so i can’t really not wear anything either.
I use:
centella brightening ampoule
ponds hydra gel or cetaphil dam moisturiser
uv doux sunscreen
loreal 32 hr infallible foundation
maybelline age rewind concealer
sometimes set with a loose powder

But it creases, cakes up and gets dry and patchy no matter what i do.
I was thinking its cause im using silicone based foundation and concealer on my dry skin.

So my question is should i completely change my routine and go for all water based products. Ill just list the products im eyeing right now:
Haruharu milky toner
The same ponds hydra gel moisturiser
Beauty of joseon sunscreen
Nars concealer
I still haven’t decided on a foundation yet (would love recos😭🤗)

Should i actually spend money on this full replacement or are there any tweaks i could do to the existing routine.

2 dead moths in my eyeshadow palette bro

this is my first time posting on reddit because i genuinely can’t find any explaination online but basically i moved this eyeshadow palette to a drawer in my new vanity 4 days ago and i went to check on my stuff today and i found 2 dead moths (those mini moths) inside of it with some white fuzz!! when i put it in the vanity i didn’t really see anything but i also havent used this palette in a while so i’m confused as to how they got into that basically airtight space. during the summer there were quite a few moths chilling everywhere in my city but like i didn’t open that palette at all during that time.

Can someone tell me how/why this could’ve happened?! and if i need to take any measures (other than throwing away the palette which i did) like deep clean vanity or something??

I swear on my life i keep my shit clean and all my other makeup is completely fine.

(as dramatic as this might sound i full on panicked like i keep imagining moth eggs growing all over my room and makeup)

[Makeup Help] Strongest eyebrow tinting brands that stain skin?

Hello, I was wondering what semi permanent brow tinting brands you know of that stain skin and give a cooler/ashy brown toned base as opposed to warm reddish base.

I have used reflectocil but it doesn’t stain skin as well, and currently using just for men (have tried light and medium brown) but it also doesn’t stain as well.

Why do my under eyes keep caking?

In the past 2ish months, my eye makeup has been caking soooo badly. I started using a different moisturizer and even switched concealers. I lightly powder my eyes so I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I know I have some lines but they’re extremely dry as well. I’m 28F, oily face but my under eyes are dry.

[Makeup Help] Need suggestions!

I've been doing my makeup to make it look like I'm not wearing any using a dark brown coffee colored eyeliner. The only thing is I don't think it defines my eyes enough. I've used black eyeliner and I felt that was too much. I have blue eyes so I feel anything outside of a rose colored to brown palette just looks awful on me. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions?

Nars Colour Corrector

I have been using nars colour corrector in shade medium for years and years. It's absolutely amazing at covering my dark under eyes and I often can use it with the tiniest bit of concealer in the hollow of my under eyes. Unfortunately it is discontinued and I have now very sadly run out. I can't find anything that is close in shade/consistency/coverage. The closest I've found is the Huda beauty corrector in peach but that pulls a bit too pink on me. I have medium south Asian skin so with cool undertones. Please help!

Looking for a flat make up brush

I love a flat, rounded brush to apply my foundation or tinted sunscreen. Some that I am seeing appear that they will absorb too much of the product. The one I loved just broke and it’s so worn, I cannot read and don’t even remember the brand. Would love to hear your recommendations!

tightlining and lash clusters- question

When I put on my lash clusters, I usually use MAC dipdown to tightline afterwards because I can never seem to get top of the lid liner on without disrupting the clusters. I'm wondering, does tightlining break down the glue and possibly make my lash clusters not last as long? I can only get 4 days max out of them.

Is Mented still great quality?

I used to use a foundation stick from Mented and loved it. Had to stop for a bit but I’m seeing they were acquired by a private equity firm. Have they kept up the quality of the makeup? I’m thinking of repurchasing.
