Vulnerability to someone is the first sign that the manipulation is working:
Being vulnerable has it's advantages and disadvantages:
You can use Vulnerability to feign innocence Or Vulnerability can be used to gaslight you into thinking you are in full control:
I don't think there's many tricks that don't have side effects;
I speaking for myself am a critical thinker but if my Operating System was to be decoded I'm just a mirror or a photocopy:

As a manipulator yourself why do you use manipulation?

Everyone uses manipulation willingly and sometimes unwillingly:
I'm sure you use it too ,you have managed to convince yourself you don't:
From kids to adults everyone uses it:
Learning about it and having practical knowledge gives you some sort of immunity:
Most people who have managed to learn about it and put it to test did not want it:
They learnt it to protect themselves and use it against there manipulator;

I was in a relationship with a highly manipulative cluster-b person who often complained I didn't show enough vulnerability.
What they wanted was information they could store up and use against me in future conflicts.
There's nothing wrong with showing vulnerability, but manipulative people will weaponise whatever you give them.

Not around the right people, some use it to manipulate while others might genuinely "heal" it (lack of a better word, not a native speaker here)

I don't believe "good" and "bad" are fixed. Anything can be either of those depending on who is assessing a situation.
However, I believe people that say "be vulnerable" are typically trying to convince another person their lack of trust and\or openness is somehow "wrong" or "unwarranted.".
Personally, I've never heard this phrase from someone that meant it sincerely.

Vulnerability is a position… lacking leverage.

This is a sad take that will limit your quality of life. Vulnerability makes your experiences so much richer and meaningful. I hope you can find strength in vulnerability one day.

Circumstances create vulnerability. I don’t need to BECOME vulnerable. And you don’t need to wish things for me. I have a gifted life, blessed with mentorship, spirituality, awareness, optimism, humility, and endurance you obviously believe I lack.

Anything can be manipulative. My abuser had me conditioned to blow up over stupid shit so they could use it in public to make me look like the abuser.
Vulnerability itself isn't a bad thing.
