Suggestions Fields affinity for Small Gane

Small and Big Game are one hunting ressource.

While in theory it could Even make Sense to Split them, if you keep them as one hunting ressource it makes Sense to give it a Field affinity.

All these rabbits profiting greatly from beeing able to eat grain dropped during the harvest or due to the wind.

I do think it makes sense for balancing, hunting is by far the worst ressource (atleast After 3 years into the Game)

You might also think about changing perks instead of doubling hunting amount, it just doubles Field and forrest affinity for hunting.

Hunting is great for trade early Game and this can snowball quite heavily. Just Export the furs (not triggering the trade route because you dont need to activate and pay if you want to import and export simple goods)

I mean Yes, for the First 2 years.

But trading Stone/salt/iron is easy to set up.
Worst case you Trade planks/firewood.

Money early on is Never an issue.

But then what is an issue early on? If it's not money, then stone/salt/iron isn't nearly as great. If it's food, the food resources would be the more logical choice.

On the contrary I think stone and salt are so powerful because you can get rich a lot quicker, thereby affording backyards and solving any food issues. It doesn't matter whether I have 10k or 20k Regional Wealth later on, I can get rich in any region thanks to charcoal. But the mining resources allow me to get there faster, while gardens are still so insanely productive that early money solves all potential food issues, imho.

I agree with switching it from a woodlands to a farmlands affinity (and instead making the woodlands affinity actually matter for berries/mushrooms).

I also like perks that switch up affinities. I'd love to see one that switches apiaries from meadows to woodland (the Zeidlerei, medieval honey hunting).

I disagree that wild animals are weak. Regular ones are superior to fish and foraging in every way. Rich ones though do yield less food - but still the most items overall. Not just good for selling the pelts early, but maybe one day pelts will become actually useful for high end consumables for t4+.

The other thing that makes hunting better than total food yield you might be comparing is it's regular, non seasonal production, keeping spoilage to a minimum - unless you're producing way more than you need. Fishing on the other hand is hyper seasonal, mostly happening in spring if you want the most out of it. Just like with fruits from orchards, you'll lose most of them to spoilage rather than consumption, unless the population eats them all super quickly.

Then there's droughts affecting fish, but not hunting, no affinity for shoals, no origins truly affecting fishing unlike hunting and foraging, extra low yields year 1 (because the shoals don't start out full like they normally would in March, and it takes longer to set up huts and catch all within the month), and no trapping equivalent, where you could increase small game production as much as you wanted if you've got the labour to spare.

Imho hunting is the strongest of the food related resources, even while pelts only matter for early cash. Maybe you're not setting your reserve correctly? Just set it to 2 below capacity. The higher your number of current animals, the faster the next respawn. A rich node with 14/28 animals produces no more than a regular one with 14/16.

Making a perk specialising your hunting, thus changing from „Big Game“ to „Small Game“ and changing affinities Sounds like a very smooth solution, I Like that much better than my own idea!

I primarily think Rich hunting (or every Rich food ressource except soil), is weak.
For a Big Main Region, Rich hunting is always worse than Mining or better farming, although hunting could be one of the most interesting mechanics.

Early game food is pretty powerful if you're growing fast and competing with AIs (more so once they've gotten stronger and production a bit slower). And increasing food variety means you can still use foraging/hunting/fishing at large town levels. But overall early game resources will always be a bit lackluster late game.

Maybe those could get some more late game usage via perks, though. A rich shoal region with a perk could allow me to do fish farming, setting up a bunch of artifical ponds and turning grains into fish. Pelts could become a sought-after late game item, and a perk unlock the rights to having your retainers hunt deer when not raised for battle.

Idk man hunting is pretty much the best resource node. Regular is around 110 meat per year, rich 170 meat per year, that's a lot. Consistent all year long, immune to drought plus that early effortless money. 200-300+$ in first year is a lot, can focus less on money making and more on farming, army etc. Not against improvements just don't agree that it's not good. 3 years into the game every problem is solved so I don't get that point either.

Not related but are you German? Just guessing from capitals on some words.

Yes I am German, you have a sharp eye!

I kinda agree with the regular hunting beeing quite good, but the Rich one? I simply do not agree, but some comments atleast have valuable points.

However, my main focus was about more interesting mechanics, not to start a ressource tierlist debate.

You know, just wandering aber german fields and seeing all these rabbits on the fields, not beeing implemented in any way into manor Lords.

Absolutely not. With high woodland environment, the meat produce can come close to fishing (check ressouces produced in the last year) plus the furs, and of course all resources tend to be ridiculously good value for the workspaces they need.

hunting should really be improved... it's pretty much useless at this point
