Terry Matalas says Vision sent Ultron’s last remaining copy to a prison in his mind at the end of 'Avengers : Age of Ultron' : "He always felt that he didn’t really want to kill Ultron. Ultron was such a threat to humanity and he was so lost, but at the last moment, we’ll find out that Vision showed mercy.”

When “VisionQuest” begins, Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponize him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron. His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son, reincarnate. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron’s influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.

Simu Liu's chat with THR at SDCC 2026

Interviewer : I have to ask about the Gambit fight from the trailer what was it like going toe-to-toe with Channing Tatum?

Simu Liu : It was pretty incredible. Like, he kind of brought the exact energy that you would expect, right? Just like "Golden Retriever" like, "let's just get there, let's do it". You know, so we started rehearsing... It was one of the first things that we started rehearsing before the cameras even started rolling because, you know, I think for both of us, we're coming to this franchise from a very similar place where we have these characters that, you know, we've gotten the opportunity to show maybe briefly. And, you know, I know how much Channing just loves Gambit and has just, you know, he's been with that character for a lot longer than people even understand and know. You know, he's been developing that movie for ages, and, you know, being able to celebrate that first of all is so incredible. And then just knowing that, as a human being, when he reads a fight scene on a script, he's like, "I want to be the one to do it". You know, *It's the exact same way that I like to work, so, you know, our stunt doubles had a really great day because they didn't really do much*. Because, as you can see in the trailer, it's really us. And, you know, I know that we work in an industry where the actors are incredibly protected, and so, if we wanted to, we could do none of it and we could have stunt doubles come in. But I knew with Chan that that wasn't going to be either of our experience, and so, you know, I think it paid off and I think I've just been really blown away by how the fans have responded to it.

Interviewer : And this is your first time working with the Russo brothers for Doomsday. Does anything about their style stand out in particular to you compared to just previous work you've done?

Simu Liu : I mean, I think there was something about their style that felt actually weirdly familiar, I think because I came from like the world of sitcoms and, you know, they very famously came from Community. It's like, you know, they're helming these massive gargantuan movies, but they've got this kind of like punk rock indie improv kind of way about it. So we'd be on set oftentimes and, you know, we'd have a loose idea of what we needed or blocking or the lighting, but really, like, they let us play and let us find the scenes because, you know, a lot of the time, what was on the page was good, but what the actors would find in the moment was even better.
