Social not making any friends at welcome week

im an international student, and before moving here i was super excited for a new identity and making new friends and stuff. esp at welcome week cuz i heard its supposed to be super fun. well, ive tried but to no avail. everyone seems to have their own friend group, and even people in my res and floor seem to be besties without me. ive tried to strike convos but it seems like no one wants to continue talking to me. plus no one comes up to me either. so far ive not had fun at any of the events, instead, felt like an outsider. what should i do? will i ever make friends? does it get better?

Social How does everyone know each other @ welcome week?

I went to the engineering welcome week and didn't see anybody that was alone. It kinda feels overwhelming when I don’t know anyone there. Also, I tried talking to 2 people, but they didn’t seem to want to continue the conversation, so I pretty much left in 5 mins. Agh, maybe I’m just a loser.

Social trying to make friends

Upvotes

Guys welcome week is genuinely so embarrassing tell me why im so awkward that I managed to FOURTH WHEEL a group of ppl who didnt even know each other at first. Thats a whole new level of being a loser and I am that loser...

Genuinely everyone has alr made at least one welcome week friend on the first day but i genuinely get crazy nervous talking to new ppl and i can barely hold a conversation with ppl for 2 minutes and then it goes dead silent and they talk to someone else!!

Lwk rant sorry in advance

Other is going to pulse gym worth it?

so I’ve been going to goodlife for the last yr, but Ive realized if the pulse membership is in my tuition it might js be better for me financially to switch to pulse. before I decide to cancel my goodlife membership I was wondering if the pulse gym is honestly a good switch, ive heard many people say it gets really crowded but it would also be more convenient to use the gym on campus. I was wondering if people could js give me some insight on their experiences.

Discussion Going home during welcome week

Upvotes

I’m planning on going home I feel like all the events are boring and the people I do talk to I only get their instagram and then forget about them I’d rather go home and come back for classes. I’m crying every chance I get and I can’t eat anything without feeling nauseous. Will I regret going home and missing the rest of ww?

Courses Courses offered every other year

So I just found out that two courses I'm interested in are offered every other year, does anyone know where one can find out this info? I usually put courses into MyTimetable to figure out if they're fall or winter, but if a course doesn't show up at all I never know whether its been cancelled or is every other year.

For Science courses, are there lists anywhere with this info?

Academics physics 1a03, chem 1a03, math 1ls3?

Upvotes

hi guys, i was just wondering if y’all could speak to the difficulty of the courses i’ve listed above! from what i’ve gathered from reading posts in the subreddit, it seems like a lot of students struggled with these courses and ended up with not the most ideal grades.

if anybody could speak to how their experience was with these 3 courses and drop some study tips, that’d be amazing!

for context, i never took high school physics, and i’m also not the strongest at math, so i’m a little nervous about how difficult these courses might be.

honestly, i'm slowly starting to regret my decision of choosing this program. after reading the posts about these courses in the subreddit, i couldn't find many positive sentiments in regards to these courses, so i'm scared they'll tank my gpa

also, this is an additional question, but how many hours did you guys dedicate towards studying during first year? i know this question is entirely dependent on your work ethic, study habits, how rigorous your high school was, etc., but i just wanted to gain an overview of how many hours i'll be expecting to study during first year of university if i want to end up with a good gpa!

Question Accelerated Nursing Textbooks

Upvotes

For those that are in or were in the accelerated nursing program, are the textbooks actually mandatory or suggested mandatory?

How helpful were the textbooks and should I get them? I'm looking at the price of these things and they cost an arm and a leg (and my sanity).

Courses biol 1a03 rage

at midnight of the day course selection opened for me, i tried to add bio 1a03. website crashed. i LIVED on mytimetable for like a day, still wasn't working. went to work. checked during my break at work - FULL FALL AND WINTER. AHHH.

thing is, i wouldnt care so much, but i planned to apply for mcmaster's accelerated nursing for fall 2027, and it counts towards one of the prereqs. do i just have to delay a YEAR bc i couldnt get it?

and yes maybe it'll hopefully open up for winter but i already have anatomy II and bio 1m03 next sem 😭 adding 1a03 would be crazy. and i think doing it in spring is too late for admissions 🫩

Courses taking kin 2y03 and bio2b03 in the same semester

ik both courses are pretty heavy, but if i manage my time well is it doable? this was the most balanced i could make my schedule cause both of my semesters are pretty bad😭 i dont have too much options cause i'm taking all these courses as prereqs for grad school. I know both have pretty heavy modules so that's another worry that I have.
