SPOILERS Analysis of the Entire Main Cast Spoiler

Hi All! I wanted to provide this resource for the community. The characters in this game are full of hidden symbolisms and lore. Atlus did an unfathomable amount of research to layer each character in this story multiple times over. And I also did an unfathomable amount of research to uncover the hidden meanings.

This video serves as the perfect resource for after your playthrough, to help identify the more beautifully subtle components to the characters and the narrative <3

Humor this game almost killed me Spoiler

so throwback to december, when i first got the game. i had started taking some medication that had a risk for blood clots. they WARN you to not sit for prolonged periods of time. i was taking an online class and already spent a chunk of time sitting at my computer, but then i started playing metaphor and i was all in. holy — the game was so beautiful, the characters were so well-written, the gameplay was so fun!!! i couldn’t step away!! i tried to stretch and walk every few hours. but then i got pneumonia and spent even MORE time with metaphor. i did the dragon temple. i watched louis murder forden. i think i got up to the days before skybound avatar and was going through the towers. i played about 80-100 hours in my first month. long story short. blood clots in the lungs in january. almost died. did metaphor cause this? like, maybe? did i avoid metaphor for months after that while i recovered? yup. absolutely. let this be your PSA to get up and move while you’re grinding at spiral of blind faith.

playing on hard difficulty btw

**(SPOILER ALERT)**

just reached the story where i now have 30 days to prepare for the final battle.

Edit: spoiler alert, it doesnt, i thought by applying weakness to the enemy, its applied the full turn, but its only applied for ONE weakness hit, not worth it, this build got shafted

Discussion What I think Metaphor Refantazio is about thematically.

I would like to preface this by saying, sorry for any grammatical errors. Not my strong suit.

Metaphor Refantazio is thematically about fiction. What happens when you rely too heavily on fiction and what happens when you outright deny it.

The game's mouthpieces for this are King Hythlodaeus V, also known as More. And Louis Guiabern, or Louis Charadrius.

Hythlodaeus lived his life in fiction to the point of delusion. The king's dream, his ideals were hopeful, about the unity of his subjects. But he could not imagine himself actually making those things happen. He had given up after the loss of his wife and child. He broke. Which led to stagnation. A total retreat into fiction. Nothing ever changed. It was easier to live in stagnation than to face the complicated morally gray world that is reality. His love for fiction became toxic.

Hythlodaeus never believed his ideals could become reality. Choosing to live in his head and reject reality.

Louise's denial of fiction strips him of being able to see the future as hopeful. After seeing everything he cared about being burnt to the ground. Louis never wanted to be that scared little child again. So he never dreamed of unity. He never dreamed again. He only sought a world where being strong is the only thing that matters. Because of this, only his cynicism and hatred remained. Only believing in his ideology and that the world is inherently broken and unfixable. To Louis being strong is to bypass all the prejudice that society had arisen to stop the people who are lower on the social hierarchy. In Louise's world where the strong only survive and the weak is culled.

It's lonely. If everybody is strong then no one is. There would be no reason for people to rely on each other. Let alone help one another. Louise's idea of strength is purely physical. Most people will die. If not all of them. Because of Louise not believing in bonds or connections. He is lonely. And he'll make a lonely world. There is strength in bonds, in coming together as one that Louis just doesn't see.

The complete and utter removal of the dream.

The protagonist, Will walks between the two. He does not want to live in fiction nor kill it, instead choosing to dream and then act on it. Seeing fiction as the blueprint to pave the future forward.

A story isn't real.

But the things people do because of stories are real.

The stories we read don't create the future. People who take inspiration from them do.

That's when fiction meets reality. Only a metaphor can do that.

Discussion Do you think Metaphor would objectively make more money if they shoehorned in romance and you could choose a Queen?

Me personally, I think Metaphor works perfectly fine as is without romance and it's not something I necessarily want. I don't like how much discourse around Persona games gets consumed around the dating sim element, despite how little time or weight it holds in the game, and it can subconsciously affect your perceptions of them. I like when I think of Metaphor I think of the heroism and not "Is Brigitte a groomer?" every other week

But in my honest opinion, I acknowledge that Metaphor would've done even better than it already did if it had the dating sim. There are people who do multiple playthroughs of Persona just to take turns dating the girls. It would've created more discussion around Metaphor which would give it more lasting in the cultural sphere

SPOILERS Louis is literally just "Evil Strohl" Spoiler

Post image
130 Upvotes

the parallels between Strohl and Louis are too specific to be a coincidence. If you look at their lore, Louis is essentially what happens if Strohl took an evil path. What they have in common:

  • The Tragic Backstory & Revenge Arc: Both of them had their hometowns completely destroyed, and both are driven by a desire for vengeance. The parallel is mirrored in how they achieve it—Strohl finds his closure by fighting to take down Louis, while Louis gets his revenge by assassinating the King and Forden.
  • The Military Career: To get the power and influence needed to execute their goals, both joined the state military. They excel within the system but hold entirely different philosophies on what to do with their power.
  • No Igniter Magic: Both of them are rare exceptions who can use magic naturally without an igniter.

They are two sides of the same coin. Strohl channels his trauma into noble duty, protecting the innocent, and lifting up the weak. Meanwhile Louis channels his trauma into a ruthless obsession to destroy the old world order, Louis believe only the strong should survive. Louis isn't just a foil to the Protagonist; he is a dark reflection of Strohl

Discussion What Metaphor opinion would make you say this?

For me it would be saying Eupha is "boring". I think she's one of the most unique Atlus characters imo. Also when people say Metaphor is just a demo for Persona 6...which doesn't make any sense if you have played this game and Persona.

Fanart Older Basilio Cooking with his Daughter: @artsquirrelb (commissioned by me)

Post image
225 Upvotes

Hello again lol

Well awhile ago, I posted a concept of what Basilio could possibly look like when he’s older (which was drawn by my lovely artist friend: Soc Nau)

Well I really liked that older concept of Basilio that she helped me come up with…. So much so that I asked her to do some simple art of older Basilio with his daughter, Asteria

In the post with the older Basilio concept art that Soc did for me, I talked a small bit about what I personally imagined Basilio’s future to look like.

To summarize: I basically imagined Basilio still keeping his position as the head of the Tradian Brigade for the longest time.

And during that time, I could imagine him becoming the father to his daughter, Asteria.

In my headcannons, Asterias mother dies when she is a young child… around 7 or 8 years old ish.

And following that, Basillo ultimately ends up quitting his position as head of the Tradian Brigade to be more present for Asteria.

I can imagine them both moving back to the Capital where Basilio either A) opens up that diner he and Del talked about ages ago or B) helps Fabienne run the Hushed Honeybee Inn and eventually takes it over for her so she can retire.

When I was describing to Soc what I wanted in this piece, I didn’t really think much more about what was going on other than that “Basilio is cooking with Asteria”.

But now that I’ve had sometime to think on it… perhaps the scenario within the art is that Asteria is helping her father with some cooking once they have settled into their new home in the Capital? Yeah I like that ahaha

It was Soc’s idea to put fruit on their aprons. I don’t think Basillo has a fav fruit…. So I just told her to draw cherries on his and strawberries on Asteria’s.

I’ve since decided that perhaps Asteria gave that apron to Basillo with the innocent logic of “Papa would look cute in this”. Most other men would be embarrassed to wear such a thing…. But we all know Basilio wouldn’t and he’d dawn that apron with pride: especially because his precious daughter gave it to him. Love that for him ahaha.

Normally I’m a little hesitant to share my ideas like this, as they are pretty personal to me. But I figured at least there might be other people here who would also enjoy seeing Basilio become a father.

He’s such a softie that I think it’s only natural that he would be a great parent. And all my metaphor friends have agreed with me that he would be such a girl dad ahaha.

I know I’m evil for making Basilio go through the loss of a spouse and become a single parent… But to me, it just makes sense for his character arc. Especially because becoming a single parent would for sure give him more of an appreciation for all of the things Del did for him as a child 😭😭😭

Discussion Metaphor: ReFantazio reminds me of The NeverEnding Story (SPOILERS) Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
64 Upvotes

From the way that the story is presented with Humans being the big monsters, and all this talk about how fantasy shouldn't be a myth, or the fact you name yourself and are the "true seeker" of the story, and also silently guiding the protagonist throughout the game.

This game's story feels like it's inspired from The NeverEnding Story, with that story being about a boy reading a book about a warrior named Atreyu going through the land of Fantasia trying to stop "The Nothing" and the boy reading the book is the one who is helping Atreyu on his journey. Feels like the creators of Metaphor were inspired from that tale when making the game, that's just how I feel, but what do you think?
