Hobby tree question

This is probably dumb to ask, but what do you use to keep down leaves of trees? I recently bought a plastic pine tree set off Amazon and those dang leaves are rubbing right off

Pva, but after it dried I seal in the leaves with lots of a mix of thinned down pva and varnish
