Hey guys, so I’m scheduled to go to MEPS to swear in in about two weeks, and I had a question. I’ve already completed my medical and physical, and I ended up needing two waivers, which were both approved, so I’m able to swear in soon.
However, since going through MEPS, I’ve gained a significant amount of weight and am technically considered overweight now. Does anyone know if they will take my height and weight again before I swear in, or if my current weight could prevent me from swearing in?
Any information or personal experience would be greatly appreciated!

I have been trying to get into the army for 1.5 years. I am finally going to be swearing in in Oct. But a few months ago, I had a flare up with blood. It has since resolved after not straining anymore.

I did go to a GI doctor just to discuss with him, and I was not prescribed anything nor have I done any tests.

My big question is, would this be fraudulent enlistment, even if it falls within the constraints of no treatment/symptoms for 60 days?

I have already passed MEPS, as stated, so I couldn’t have even told them of this issue.

Command told me the other day they are going to recommend a chapter 11. I’m at a school right after basic training and AIT and ever since the start of basic I’ve been feeling more and more depressed everyday due to family separation and better opportunities that I left behind at home. I’ve been talking to the Chaplin as well as behavioral health recently. I joined the army on a whim right after college and really had no one around me with prior military experience to kinda guide me or ask questions too. My recruiter chalked it up to be a really fun time that I would 100% enjoy so I signed my contract. I obviously wish I did more research onto what I was getting into. I thought it would get better after basic once in my school but it’s gotten even worse for me mentally and I’ve had some dark thoughts recently. Right now a getting chaptered out seems like my only hope.

My question is if they said they are recommending it what are the chances of it actually going through? I haven’t signed anything or done any paperwork for anything yet I was just told by command at this certain school about the recommendation. Should I just trust the process? Is there anything I could do now to get the ball rolling?

My stepdad's in the Navy and I want to be a doctor. They said it was the easiest way through with no debt, but I feel like my mom just wants to live her dream vicariously through me because she wanted to be an air force medic before having kids.

I hate planes, I'm antisocial, and I'm very big on self expression. I have no interest in the military, and I do not do sports or any extracurriculars that would appeal to a military recruiter anyways. I am also an alternative teenager.

I have a boyfriend that no, I will not jeopardize my entire future for, but I do want to be able to, you know, see him to some extent. Gaming calms me down.

All of these things considered, I believe life there would be hell for me.

Are there any other US programs that I could go into the medical field for that would set me up with the most minimal amount of debt, or should I just find an ROTC program, or give up and let my parents cater my life and activities towards the air force academy?

(I specifically want to go into surgery, and currently am expected to graduate high school with an associates in pre-medical sciences)

I wanna join the army but I’m quite a big guy I’m about 270lbs at 6’0. I’m 17 and I’m not gonna graduate for a pretty long while so I have time anyways but I’m curious if the DEP would be something I should look into.

I’m currently in Navy DEP and ship out Nov 9. I been having the thought of joining the Marines since I know it will be more challenging and just having the title marine will make me feel proud of it. I talked to a marine recruiter about it and he said to get discharged from DEP and then we can start the process, I just need to redo my waiver which is for asthma. How long will the process take and how can I Tell my recruiter he’s been helping me out a lot and I know he’ll be pissed for wasting his time

Ive been looking for a career change for a while now and with the recent cap on age being 42, going into the airforce is looking like an exciting option.

I have a masters in engineering. 10 years of management experience. Worked on a bunch of fancy stuff from EVs to lasers to Department of Energy. Im in good physical shape. No drugs or any legal troubles.

Only potential issues: Im mildly sensitive to gluten/wheat (not celiac). Have moderate seasonal allergies. And wear contact lenses / glasses.

I really dont know what jobs I would be best for in the airforce. I wouldnt want to be a fighter pilot. Large aircraft pilot would be fine. Or anything else really.

Thoughts? Worth talking to a recruiter?

Also interested in what life is like as an officer. Is it pretty typical 40 hour work weeks? Travel requirements? Do you get to choose where you live? The officers Ive known seem to live pretty great lives.

I've always felt a calling to join the military and as I approach graduating college it's a real decision I have to make now. With that being said, I was "diagnosed" with Tourette's or OCD (I don't recall them ever classifying either one) around when I was around 13 (ten years ago) I don't recall any medications, could've been something mild, but I did try therapy a few times but ultimately quit it all together whithin a year. I worked hard to beat it and with time I grew out of it. I haven't had any episode in over 9 years. What are my odds of this stopping me from joining, or showing/ having to get medical waiver?

Im AD enlisted Army and I’m pursuing an associates in nursing currently. Once I finish I plan on doing my RN to BSN online since I want to commission as a nurse. Im aware of AECP but my goal is to become a CNM which is a separate masters nursing program. It requires a lot of clinical hours that, even with online classes, I could not realistically do while active. From what I’ve seen online it seems like AECP only covers a BSN and not further nursing education.

Is it possible go use G2G to do my masters in CNM after I get my BSN? If I do G2G will I be a guaranteed nurse or is there a chance they put me in another MOS? 

Would it be better for me to just do AECP to get my BSN, switch to reserves to get my CNM and switch back to active? And is doing that realistic?

I'm not sure how exact I can be with dates regarding when I started/stopped a job over the past 10 years, or exactly when I moved in/out of where I lived. I will do my best but will it be bad for me if it is not entirely accurate?

I been thinking about joining the army and don’t know which job to choose. I want to know which job is better and has a better quality of life. I know they are very similar.

So my waivers were were approved this past May but my physical expired August 23. So I redid my physical and I’m waiting on MEPS to finish their med read and then the waivers have to be resubmitted. Has anyone ever encountered this? Do they approve fast? I’m supposed to ship on the 8th and I’m wondering how realistic that date is.

Has anybody had to do a CBC panel for anemia and how long did it take MEPS to get the results back?

I’ve been lurking here for a while but I haven’t see anything similar to the problem I’m in right now so I just decided to make an account and post. Why do women go infantry especially the Marines? From what I’ve seen here men don’t want women there at all, they can’t meet the standard, and they face lots of discrimination. What’s the appeal?

I have a 17 year old daughter who’s begging us to sign the consent forms, we won’t be doing it. She’s wanted to go to the Marines as an infantry job since 5th grade. Me and her dad thought it was a phase so when she asked us to sign her up for wrestling swimming and track when she was 10 we did since we were sure it’d die down. 7 years later and we just took it away from her to try and get her to do new things. I don’t get why it’s so appealing for her to look buff like a guy and do guy things. The other day she fireman carried her 200 pound cousin and it honestly felt like I had a son. I told her about all the discrimination she’d face and she said she’d rather get it there than at a random Walmart. I’m not into this and I don’t want her in such a male dominated job.

Her sister’s in college for nursing and we’d hope she’d see her sister in college and want to do that but nope, nothing. If she likes the marines so much she could just date one and save the trouble. I might sound like a crazy mother but honestly I’d rather that than her being in the military let alone a combat job with only men and ruin the dynamic. How can I talk her out of it?

Do they test for LSD at MEPS? I’ve read that they now use an expanded 26-drug panel that includes LSD. Don’t know if that is true or not

Hey guys, I’d like to know if it would be possible (and if so, what branch would be more willing) to waiver a shellfish allergy? I have a diagnosis. I even took those immunotherapy shots as a kid for my shellfish allergy. Truthfully, I have no clue how bad my allergy is because I’ve been avoiding shellfish my whole life. Fortunately, I’ve never used an EpiPen, and as far as I know, my medical record just states that at some point in my early childhood, I had "swelled gums" from eating shrimp at a hibachi place, lol.
I’m mainly interested in the Army or the Marines, but I’m worried that the results I got on my skin prick and blood tests are going to get in the way (they weren’t very promising), let alone the fact that I’m pretty sure the oral challenge might lead to something more serious (hopefully not the first time I’ll use an EpiPen). Any and all words of advice and kindness are greatly appreciated, as the military is currently my only aspiration.

For Air Force Off Duty attire, would you be considered gender dysphoric for wearing clothing nonconforming to your sex while considering yourself your sex assigned at birth still?

Women wearing masculine clothing.

How does that work?

Way back in 2019 I (M29) ended up with a serious workplace injury, couldn’t sleep from pain and stupidly started using cocaine and reckless amounts of caffeine to stay awake during the day. After a few weeks of being pathetic I went ahead and checked myself into a rehab center. Been clean ever since. No criminal charges.

What are the chances of getting waver on this one? Am I disqualified from holding secret or TS?

I was a trucker prior to and after this incident, so I should be able to get proof of passing those drug tests; a total of 3 prior and 4 after.

I’m was originally aiming for AF but they seem far less lienent than other branches. Any advice?

Conditional Release married/5 kids

I'm in AIT and wanted to know when I can start a conditional release. My unit was already aware I wanted to switch from Reserves to AD because the recruiters said this was the only way I could get into AD with as many dependants that I have.

My MOS is overmanned at my unit too if that helps. Do I have a chance to get it approved (my spouse is 100 P&T) or should I complete my original contract and just try to go active afterwards).

As the title shows, I’m wondering as an 11b how often do I have the opportunity to be at home with my wife? I see a lot of posts depicting the 11b life as a marriage destroyer, is that true? My plan isn’t 11b long term and she’s supportive of this decision but I wouldn’t want to put her through the wringer just so I do something I’ve always wanted to do. If anyone could shed some light on this, especially 11b’s I’d be so grateful. Thank you all!

i get that leadership is not supposed to tell the subject (accused service member that cid/ncis/osi want to interrogate) that they are taking them to provost marshall office (pmo) or the police station, but is it a punishable offense for them to tell their soldier once they arrive at pmo “i dont know what you did, but exercise your rights and ask for a lawyer!” ? Especially since many joes don’t know of article 31 especially if they came to the unit from tradoc unless they knew someone personally that got in trouble or knew a vet prior to enlisting. not everyone deserves to be booted as some cid and similar cases mentioned on reddit are absurd and there was a huge issue regarding titling for people who never got to defend themselves because they were advised to waive the board in order to avoid getting smoked by the board or uncle sam. I know 2 people who were falsely accused of sexual assault and still suffer because of it despite being cleared.

my point of reference is those millitary lawyer websites that a lot of service members read when it is too late because they talked.

Just wanted to get as much information as I can since infantry is the mos that I'm interested in.

I could really use some advice on how to handle my current situation. I am around 30 years old and have built a fairly decent civilian career over the years, but I lost my job back in August. My relationship ended and had to move back to my parent’s house in April. Looking back, I’ve jumped between several office jobs over the past few years, but none of them ever really clicked. I kept struggling to stay motivated, largely because I simply lacked any real interest in the typical 9-to-5 desk routine.

Deep down, joining the military has been a lifelong dream of mine. However, I always held myself back mostly out of fear of how my family would react, as they have always had a very specific idea of what a safe and traditional career path should look like. Even though my father was in the navy himself from a very young age.

Recently, I decided I couldn't let that fear dictate my life anymore. I took the leap on my own initiative, walked into a ARMY recruiter’s office, and eventually made it to MEPS. I took the ASVAB, scored a 69, and passed every physical and medical requirement. When I explained my hesitation to the recruiter before I went to MEPS, he was very understanding and assured me there was no pressure to sign a contract right then and there. So, I walked out without enlisting.

It has been a week now, and I’m sitting at a crossroad. On one hand, I finally proved to myself that I can do this; on the other, I’m still caught between following my own passion and dealing with the potential fallout from my family. I would love to hear from anyone who has been in a similar position or made a career shift like this at 30.

I’ve recently went to Meps and was disqualified for a prior misdiagnosis of bipolar disorder, in which I’m certain, was a misdiagnosis. I’ve never suffered from any of the symptoms relating to this disorder aside from occasionally having feelings ranging from forlorn or anxious. I really view the opportunity of joining the national guard and currently in the process of being reevaluated by two independent psychiatrists in hopes for a thorough evaluation. Have anyone, recruiter or applicant, ever tried and succeeded in getting a misdiagnosis waiver? I would really like to know how, so that I can realistically access my own waiver chances.
