Finally downloaded Java - what mods are recommended?

Hi everyone, finally bit the bullet and got Java edition for my Mac as I’m travelling a lot more and can’t access my Xbox as much. What Mods would you all suggest I give a go? I’m really excited to finally try Java!

For Performance I'd recommend the Fabulously Optimized modpack. It uses the Fabric modloader, the bigger gameplay altering mods use Forge /NeoForge

That’s a very broad question along the lines of “I got a pc what games should I play?”

What genres do u think you’d like automation cozy farming games hard boss fights zombie survival etc

Go with a simple install of Fabric loader and Sodium. Just to get you up to speed with how stuff works. Then you can browse sites like Modrinth or Curseforge. As other comments said, I'd recommend Prismlauncher/MultiMC (basically the same/Prism is a fork of MMC). Easy modding with dependency handling and automatic updates.

yeah like i prefer the UI of journeymap the most + i use it with map frontiers

Fabric+fabric api+sodium+lithium+iris shaders+mod menu and Continuity as optional as base before installing anything else

I'd recommend to start with Prism Launcher (fully compatible with MacOS) and use a preixisting modpack, such as Performium or Fabulously Optimised for example. Then you can install individual mods like Iris (allows you to get shaders), Resourcify (lets you install resource packs/shaders/word downloads in game) etc.

Pls use prism launcher for modding its the best launcher, you can download from both modrinth and curseforge, manage multiple instances and modloaders instantly and it's open source

I don't see what's wrong with vanilla Minecraft? It runs fine for me?
