I can’t get the 1/2” plywood base layer to bend to my transition. I’ve tried wetting it in the shade, using a strap, screaming obscenities at it.

But to no avail. I can’t get it close enough to start driving the screws in.

UPDATE - I was able to work the curve in over time. Thanks for all the suggestions. Wetting it likely helped as well.

It's so surreal having a ramp in the backyard. Before this, the closest decent mini ramp to me was an hour away.

Decided on a 16 x 24 build. Can already feel the progression of my skating!

I’m thinking about removing the surface and breaking it down into 3 sections: 2 transitions and flat. I’d either temporarily mount wheels on it or put it on moving dollies and roll it into the back of a U-Haul. It’s only 3’x8’ so that shouldn’t cause any problems, right? Would a flat bed be better for some reason?

My kid (11) has finally broke my wife and she’s agreed to a mini ramp in the back garden. Problem is we’ve to keep the flower beds and it’s quite a small garden. So the maximum length is 14 feet (4.2meters).
Playing around with a few ideas, I’m in my 40s and haven’t skated since I was in my teens and we just eye balled the radius back in the day🤣
Will the flat bottom of only 4 feet on the example here be enough, I’m thinking as it’s only 2 feet high it should be ok. If it gets the use we might extend in the future and move the flower beds but for now that’s too much work.

37yo dad that hasnt skated since my young teen yrs. I can still cruise, kickturn a smaller ramp, ollie, shove it, just super basic stuff. Wanna get back into it just to have an active hobby that hopefully i can get my kids into as theyre 8-14 now.

Im in central america and wanna build some rails, a box, and a small micro 1/4 ramp just for casual fun coping tricks. Probably 8ft wide by 2ft high at most rn with a really soft radius, just enough to rock i guess.

We dont have proprietary skating surface materials here. Its pretty much just rolled steel sheets and sometimes plywood. Id prefer to weld up something as it'll be more durable to the tropical weather. What guage or thickness steel is normally used for ramps? Any reasons to avoid the steel and go with plywood instead? Ive never bought plywood, as very few places even have it, so not sure what woods or adhesives are available. Itll be on a porch under a roof but still exposed to intensely misting fog every day, sideways rain and constant 100% humidity. Its small enough i can still wipe it down with a towel before skating, as i know metal can be slippery.

Am i missing any obvious surfaces materials besides metal or plywood?

just finished building my mini quarter pipe ramps this week.

the mini is 12” and is based off of the OC ramps Lutzka 3-in-1. built this to build confidence trying new tricks AND for my kids (6&3). 4ft wide, 12” high, 8’ radius.

the bigger one is 20” and is just so fun. used an 8’ radius on it and it came out great. 4ft wide, 20” high, 8’ radius.

Here’s my progress on the 2’ x 8’ x16’ mini ramp rehab. Lots of bad wood when I picked it up. The siding had to be replaced as well as the full flat section. It was really rotted out.

I’m going to end up with 6” spacing on the transition joists but I’m waiting till I have the ramp set on the pavers for that step.

The good news was that the skatelite that was on it cleaned up nicely. I have my wife to thank for that.

All in we are at $450 and probably end up around $650 when it’s all said and done.

Im looking to be able to have a comfortable coping bump so i can launch up over coping and back into the ramp for airs, but also have a comfortable lip for grinds and lip tricks so i can lock in but not hang up everytime. Lol. I have experience with bigger ramps, but better with minis around 3 to 5 feet. This mini is also going to have a small 5' extension on one corner. Appreciate any help

TLDR: What’s the ideal amount of flat area on a 3’tall x 8’wide half pipe?

I just got a used 3’tall x 8’wide x 23’long (8’ of flat) half pipe, but some of the flat area is rotten and needs to be rebuilt. This got me thinking, “should I expand the flat area?”

I’m 48yo, 6’4” tall, 240 pounds. I’m starting skating again after decades off, so I’m basically a beginner, and never skated a half pipe before.

My gut tells me that it would be a better experience to have 12’ of flat, rather than the 8’ it came with. It seems like it would be a slower/mellower experience, which might be better for learning.

I see the speed generated from people dropping in from the 3’ quarter pipe at the park and they seem to be going plenty fast enough to cover 12’ and get up the other side; it’s not like I’m ever planning on launching over the coping and doing air tricks; it’s going to be all stalls and coping grinds for me.

Recently built a 3' mini-ramp in my backyard with the extensive help of a friend.

Decided to build a quarter for him to skate with his daughter at his place.

Finished it up today (minus the steel transition).

Turned out pretty good 🤘

what do you guys recommend for the transition other than a street sign 😂

I need to extend our mini ramp deck about 30cm, and I just seen this one where there is no floor support, that would work for the limited space I have , any idea how to achieve that??

I previously had two 4’ wide quarters but wanted to go wider. I need to be able to stand them out of the way to park the car in the garage. At 4’ wide, they were a bit heavy to flip. At 8’ wide, it’s just too heavy to flip unassisted - so I added some assistance.

Matching quarter is out of frame. Actuating is slow, this is sped up to 10x.

Mini ramp 3 piece

My neighbor is giving me the bones of this mini half pipe. It’s a 2’ x 8’ x 16’. It’s got a 4’ x 6” extension on one side.

I plan to clean the coping or possibly just replace.

I’ll do 1/2” cdx bottom layer with a 1/2” birch ply top layer. I’m going to coat with skate paint

Is this ramp worth saving? Or am I better off just building from scratch?

I'm trying to understand if I can build a fun half pipe mini/micro ramp in a room where floor space is not an issue but the roof height is only 240 cm (7.87 ft). Rider height up to 185cm (6 ft).

Thinking this'll restrict the ramp height to 45cm (1.5 ft) or so.

Ever ridden something fun this low? Anyone with suggestions for the dimensions?

2”x6’ spine. 6.5 radius. Good times

Rebuilt the a-frame a few months ago and then added the hip early summer. Super fun addition to the park.
