Help identifying a spot?

I don't have photos but I remember taking a trip a long time ago with one of the groups I was part of growing up. It was a beach where you can see the city lights of Duluth across lake superior, and we slept open air and there was a meteor shower that night. Trying to search for Duluth viewing just gets me Duluth searches and nearby parks, but I have no idea where we were but I'd love to go back.

Does anyone know of a beach campsite people can go to see the lights of the city from a distance that doesn't opress the night sky, where sleeping open air is an option?

Are you sure you weren't on the Superior, Wisconsin side of things? It could be you were in one of the Minnesota campgrounds on Rte 61 which would sort of see Duluth across water. But Duluth is right on Superior, and all the Minnesota stuff is either north of it (not over water) or northeast of it, also on the shore of Superior. You'd be looking hard right to see Duluth from up there. The Wisconsin/Apostle Islands side of things would have Duluth "across" Lake Superior. Here's one
