Meetup Our Friends Are Now His Friends

I’m just looking to make new friends. Recently split from my partner of 17 years and he got the friend group. I’m 49, really trying to be more active despite minor(ish) mobility issues, I like cannabis, love music, driving, movies, being in the sun. Also I’m a woman. Would like to find other women in the area to kick it with. I’m in the Rattlesnake but can meet anywhere in town.

In need of a graphic designer for a business logo!

hey all! curious if there's any graphic designers in town who would be interested in helping design a logo for a furniture making business. I have some ideas but not the skills to actually make a logo and I would love to support someone local as instead of using a Fiverr type service. If this could be something that interests you or know of someone definitely let me know! Thanks!

Announcement Hiiiiii Missoula! Missoula Beverage Collective is close to opening!

Post image
279 Upvotes

With 3/4 of our founding team being redditors and members of [r/missoula](r/missoula) , we figured should have an ~official~ account instead of posting from our personal ones about our big project!

We are Missoula Beverage Collective -- your new community coffeehouse and brewery located at 1151 West Broadway. Our founding team is made up of four longtime service industry workers who you may recognize from some of Missoula's favorite establishments. We met as coworkers in this very building years ago.

So when this property came up for sale in March of 2025, we thought... what if WE found a way to buy it and to open our own new place?? Combined, we have about 40 years of experience in service/breweries/restaurants, so we should be able to do it, right?!

We got together a couple times a week, created a 60-page business plan, presented that plan to multiple local banks/credit unions, and eventually were accepted for a Small Business Administration loan. With that funding along with initial investments from some of our very generous family and friends, we were able to purchase the property and get started creating the kind of gathering space we've all dreamed of for a long time.

We got into the building in April, and since then, we've been working diligently to restore and improve this place with a whole lot of help from family, friends, and volunteers. Maybe you've seen our temporary signage and us buzzing around as you've driven past on Broadway!

So much thought and care has gone into this project, and we've been trying to keep it local as much as possible, folding Missoula history into our space. We purchased Golden Yolk Griddle's espresso equipment when they closed, gotten a hold of the chairs and tables from the Hob Nob, repurposed all of the beautiful wood from Imagine Nation's iconic curved bartop, and turned beetle-killed slabs of pine harvested from the Bitterroot into the remainder of our new bar and prep areas.

The riverfront patio garden beds and benches had greatly deteriorated in the decade since they were built, so we will be building new beds and benches soon. The native plants and shrubs on the patio have been preserved to return once the new beds are completed, and we've got plans to add even more too.

Our espresso prep area will be getting plumbed and electrified in the next couple weeks, and we're aiming to be ready for a soft opening with our coffee service by the end of September.

Our brewing equipment arrived last week, and we are on track with the state & fed licensing process to be ready for beer service likely in November (fingers crossed!)

We're excited to be here and can't wait to serve you. So, ask us anything!

(Edited to add: I’ve been remiss in my duties! I was supposed to include a link to our crowdfunding campaign! https://www.indiegogo.com/en/projects/melissainmissoula/missoula-beverage-collective If you’re stoked about our project and want to contribute beyond buying a beverage when we open, please toss a few bucks our way. We have 9 days left in our campaign to raise additional funds to help us get through the startup phase.

It’s been really special to have so many community members support this project, building a place made for and by our community.)

Hearing wildlife cries from Greenough/Rattlesnake for quite some time-- might be mountain lion, dog?

Pretty sure I ruled out bear cub. The sound is coming from the east side of the creek, I think. Not sure if an animal is injured or in distress, obviously not wanting to be dumb about it but not heartless. Anybody sure enough to identify?

EDIT: Guys, it's cool, you don't all have to keep telling me it's an elk call, I am leaving this here for educational purposes but I assure you, very embarrassed for myself as a Montanan

News Missoula is $0.66 from an all-time gas record. Diesel is $0.52 away. 184 days since the Iran War started. Full timeline.

Post image
243 Upvotes

184 days in. Sinclair on 39th: $4.39 unleaded Friday August 28, $5.39 diesel Wednesday August 26. No fanfare. Just another week in Missoula.

The numbers at this point speak for themselves. What started as a war overseas is now a fixed line item in every Missoula household budget. $65.85 to fill a 15-gallon tank. Six months ago that was $41.70.

The brief window of relief this summer is worth noting. Seven weeks of falling prices after the April ceasefire. People made plans. Drove to Glacier. Stopped doing the math at the pump. Then July 10 arrived, the ceasefire collapsed, and within two weeks every penny of that relief was clawed back.

Montana went from 25th cheapest state for gas in January to 10th most expensive by August. The national average today is $4.08. We are above it.

Full timeline, Missoula regular unleaded:

Date Price Change % Up
Jan 5 (pre-war low) $2.75
Feb 28 (war starts) $2.78
Mar 7 $3.09 +$0.31 +11%
Mar 18 $3.44 +$0.66 +24%
Mar 25 $3.59 +$0.81 +29%
Apr 6 $3.84 +$1.06 +38%
Apr 8 (ceasefire)
Apr 13 $3.99 +$1.21 +44%
Apr 28 $4.19 +$1.41 +51%
Apr 30 $4.29 +$1.51 +54%
May 5 $4.49 +$1.71 +62%
May 16 (peak) $4.69 +$1.91 +69%
Jun 22 $4.09 +$1.31 +47%
Jul 6 (low point) $3.82 +$1.04 +37%
Jul 10 (ceasefire ends)
Jul 27 $4.26 +$1.48 +53%
Aug 12 $4.29 +$1.51 +54%
Aug 21 $4.36 avg +$1.58 +57%
Aug 26 (diesel $5.39)
Aug 28 $4.39 +$1.61 +58%

Missoula is $0.66 from its all-time gas record ($5.05, Jun 15 2022) and $0.59 from its all-time diesel record ($5.98, Jul 1 2022).

We were under $3.00 before this war. Remember that.

Sources: Personal observation Missoula (Aug 26-28), AAA (Aug 31), OilGasPrices.com (Aug 30), Stacker/AAA (Aug 17 and Mar 23), KGVO

Correction: the Missoula all-time diesel record was cited as $5.91. Cross-referencing AAA and Stacker Missoula metro data confirms the correct figure is $5.98 on July 1, 2022. The statewide Montana diesel record is $5.91, the Missoula metro record is higher.

2026 Missoula’s lost bar and restaurant list.

The demise of Applebees caused me to wonder how many and which establishments in Missoula have permanently closed this far into 2026, and I am sure there will be more, unfortunately. Please add or correct this list accordingly and discuss. This list isn’t a critique of the quality of the establishment or anything like that, it’s just kind of a memorial in no particular order, and it will probably become a predictor too, but I don’t really want to speculate on who’s next, but I’ll let yall do that.

Applebee’s
Famous Dave’s
Cruz Tacos*
Liquid planet
Pangea
Stave and Hoop
Elote
Miller Creek Cafe
James Bar
KFC*
Drum Coffee (South Ave)

Vintage and antique indoor and outdoor show/market

Upvotes

Hey fellow zoo town peeps! I’m gathering market date here so bear with me please. I’m see if there are interest from any fallow vintage and antique furniture, decor and clothing sellers in selling at a weekly or biweekly weekend market ( similar to the Missoula or people’s markets). And also see no if there are people wanting to show at that type of market. Like the rose bowl but missoula sized if you will. Let me know your thoughts, positive or Nicely negative haha!

5 on black portions?

I've noticed recently that the portions at 5 on black are now 80% rice.

For a 16 dollar large, you get essentially a dollar worth of rice and maybe 2 bucks worth of everything else.

Man, their profit margins, have to be huge.

I'm not sure I will be going back

Company Christmas Party venues

Looking for ideas besides Westside Lanes.

Who: 40-50 adults

When: Early January

What: Party space with something fun to do. Bowling has worked in the past, and could work again, but trying to think of something new. On-site alcohol sales (or BYOBooze) mandatory. Adults only.

Tell me some ideas!

State economy slowing towards collapsing?

with an increase in restaurants and business closures I have to wonder if Montana is starting to see the state economy slowing towards a collapse.Yes this is probably happening nation wide and a recession possibly even a depression could hit America as a whole soon. That said I wonder if mt is going to get hit harder having skyrocketing rents and one of the most expensive housing markets.
