Recipe 🥄 N/A-peritivo

I've been meaning to post this for a while now. I used to be a heavy drinker of alcohol, but was able to cut alcohol out of my life and filled the void with mocktails using tonic syrup (recipe below). This has been my go-to for months now. You can combine it with so many types of flavored seltzers, sodas, juices, etc., whatever your palate prefers. It's extremely versatile and absolutely delicious.
Tonic Syrup Recipe
- 1 lime (zested/peeled and juiced, pith removed and discarded)
- 1 lemon (zested/peeled and juiced, pith removed and discarded)
- 2 cups of water
- 1.5 cups of sugar (can be adjusted depending on palate/preference)
- 1 teaspoon of citric acid powder
- 2 teaspoons of cinchona bark
- 1 small handful of dried or frozen lemongrass
- ~ 5 juniper berries
- 1 black cardamom
- ~ 5 allspice berries
- optional add-ins: nutmeg, cinnamon stick, peeled ginger, whole cloves, dried lavender, peppercorns, etc.
Place all ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes. Let cool for 20 minutes. Strain through a strainer/cheesecloth and store in fridge.
