Vikhavn: A 5 year Passion Project
Though my screenshots are limited, these are samples of an adventure map project I began embarking on in 2021, in a totally depressed and unmotivated state.
I had Valheim in my backlog for months, but when I finally started playing, there was no looking back. I have scrapped and restarted this project more times than I can count, but never once gave up on it. I started building in vanilla, and learning how to mod the game and use tools like infinity hammer reinvigorated my love of game design, both aesthetic and technical.
Eventually I met other creators in this community and learned even more, which brought me back to the drawing board with a clearer vision each time.
My biggest inspiration for the aesthetics is The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker. The gameplay I'm trying to achieve is to deepen the combat and exploration of Valheim while not drowning its identity, emphasize ocean travel, and a bit of added Stardew seasoning for flavor. Trying to make something that feels like it enhances Valheim without changing it too drastically, so minimal build pieces and equipment are added.
I had to take the majority of this last year off due to a move and starting a new management job in a new town, but with 1.0 on the horizon and the busy season here coming to a close, I decided it was time to get cooking on this again.
Basically I'm posting the scant few screenshots I have on my new laptop here to encourage others and be encouraged. I hope ya'll like these rough drafts. I will post more as the work continues.
Skål.
