How is the sampling on the TR?
Seems like I keep reading limitation after limitation, but plenty of people are still buying them, many more dying to buy them... it must not be as limiting as I think.

Sampling definitely isn’t as conducive as on a MPC for example, but for me it is fine.
The main issue in my opinion is the form factor of the TR makes it less direct than other dedicated samplers. It is a drum machine first, with a sampler a bonus. I’d definitely recommend something else on a sample heavy workflow.
With that being said, I have a SP404MKII in the closet and am considering selling because the TR pretty much does everything I need though.

Honestly I would love to get rid of everything except my tr-8s,an udo super 8,and my mpc Sample.

Tweeters at ear height and some decoupling of your speakers will do wonders.

I can't do anything with that gear, But I love your setup! I have the same Kali's in my Studio. I love Kali's. What does the large Roland T 1000 do. I have a good bit of Guitar gear from roland and Boss. I play a Roland GR30 guitar synth.

Hi there and thank you so much! I love the Kali monitors too. I’d like to improve the sound in my room at some point with more wall hangings and a rug.
The Roland TR1000 is their newer drum machine that recreates the old 808 and 909 machines with fully analog circuits (unlike the TR8 and TR8s models). It does a lot more but that’s probably the main selling point.
I had to look up the GR30 as I had never heard of that before. Cool stuff! I have their SP404MKII as well that I really enjoyed for sampling and boom bap stuff. If Roland ever recreates the old Junos in analog, you can count me in :)

I’ve been thinking about having just one main machine to do it all. Fan of MPC but the TR1K seems more immediate.
Saw your note about sampling. So are you mainly just using it for drums? How do you sequence the moog? I thought chromatic was iffy on the TR

Yeah the immediacy of the TR is real. It’s fun to just sit down and start jamming and tweaking. It obviously has deep sound design too.
I sequence the Moog using its own internal sequencer. I also have the Mother32, DFAM, & Labyrinth so can break those out and use their sequencers or modulation if needed.
I believe the TR can do chromatic (1V/oct) over midi, but haven’t tried it yet.

I went back and fourth, but it came down to really wanting something that would take time to “learn” to play more like an instrument. Not to sound cheesy, I truly wanted something different. I wanted full analog as well, for whatever reason :)
Edit: I’d like to learn to spin vinyl at some point too and I thought it would be fun for that.

I have a model one 6 and a tr1000. Idk if I will ever financially recover enough to buy more synths but I persist.

I have to advise you to replace one "quirky toy" with your choice of succulent, crystal cluster, or mineral sample.
Also, this desk is prime for "coffee mug," although I do see a spun aluminum water bottle which might be enough.
Have you considered a worn red Persian carpet for under the desk? It'd really tie the battlestation together.
