im up to collaborating with producers/artists/singers to create something cool together, thats why im searching here in the first place

this is something im passionate and precise about, so i also want to be more open for other people ideas

to hear my work, tell me, since i cant send links here

if anyone is willing to produce something in rnb direction, lmk, maybe we will fit well :))

in a previous post with an older song i made i was told to study different types of music along with music theory + work on chord and melody choices, instrument selection and mixing. What would stand out as something i should work on (this includes what i've mentionned here). none of the vocals are mine since i dont have the skillset to do any just yet. rapping : kodak black, "game from pluto" singing: copyright and credit free sample

Does anyone know what type of plugin or effect they are using on the vocals in this song?

I want to achieve a similar vocal sound but I have no idea what effects or plugins to use beside an autotune sort of thing.

Am I screwed/out $100?

I'm basically a dumdum with not much prior vocal experience (definitely not technical) and I ended up getting a Rode Podmic microphone. I should be able to figure out the hardware parts (THANK YOU CHRIS L FROM SWEETWATER) but, overall, is this microphone any good for music production? It surely has to be better than an actively breaking $40 JLab Talk mic from like 6 years ago, right? ... will I have to wait till next paycheck to fix this issue? (I'm trying to record audio through a microphone and then through my laptop, if that helps)

Ever wondered how many stems actually go into a professionally produced vocal? 🎤

Just finished a custom vocal job for a client and looked back at the Logic session thinking... that's a LOT of vocals 😆

This particular topline ended up with:

🎤 1 main vocal
🎤 6 ad-lib tracks
🎤 4 double tracks
🎤 7 harmony tracks
🎤 8 ooh/ahh tracks for a layered chant effect

Everything gets properly organised and delivered wet + dry, along with the lyrics and piano MIDI. For vocals I've produced instrumentals for, I can provide the full instrumental stems too.

I've put one of my finished vocals over the video so you can hear the sort of end result all those layers contribute towards. Sound on 🔊

I always find it interesting how something that sounds relatively effortless in the finished record can have a ridiculous number of individual recordings sitting underneath it.

Any other vocalists/producers here end up with sessions like this? 😂

I built a 6-stem music separation and karaoke tool that ranked highest among the competitors in our benchmark — but we’re still pretty small

Hey everyone, I’m the founder of NeuralSound.

We’ve been working on this for a while, mostly focusing on the separation quality and adding things musicians would actually use around it.

At this point you can upload an audio file or video and:

  • separate it into 2, 4 or 6 stems
  • isolate vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano and other sounds
  • remove the vocal and make a karaoke/backing track
  • follow synced lyrics while the song plays
  • change the pitch/key and tempo
  • mute or solo individual stems
  • make karaoke videos with synced lyrics (support 95+ language)

It works on web, iOS and Android.

The main thing we’ve spent most of our time on though is the separation  AI model itself.

There are already much bigger products in this space, so I didn’t want to just come here and say “ours sounds better.”

We took 5 tracks from the MUSDB18-HQ dataset and ran the same 2-stem test through NeuralSound, Moises and Fadr.

The average SI-SDR came out at:

NeuralSound: 15.80 dB
Moises: 14.47 dB
Fadr: 12.59 dB

We ran the benchmark ourselves, so obviously take that into account. It’s also only 5 tracks and I’m not claiming NeuralSound is going to win on every song.

That’s why we put the actual audio from every test on the page as well. You can listen to our result, Moises and Fadr side by side instead of trusting the numbers.

Benchmark + audio:
https://neuralsound.org/compare/ai-vocal-remover-2026

We’re also trying to make NeuralSound affordable for musicians. Our weekly plan is $2.99, which is lower than the comparable plans from the other major platforms, while still giving you access to our best AI separation model.

The funny/frustrating part for me as the founder is that I think we’ve built something genuinely competitive, but we’re still tiny compared with the companies we’re competing against.

We spent much more time building the product than figuring out how to get musicians to discover it.

So I’d really like some feedback from people here who already use stem separation.

If you use Moises, Fadr, LALAL.AI, Demucs or anything else, try the same difficult song in NeuralSound.

I’m especially interested in the bad cases.

Does ours actually sound better to you? If not, where does it fall apart?

And if the separation is good enough, what else would NeuralSound need before you’d actually use it regularly?

App Store = https://apps.apple.com/app/id6756906827

Google Play = https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.neuralsound.musicseparation

I’m the founder, so I’ll read and reply to the feedback myself.

Help with Dancehall style productions

Hey everyone,

I recently finished putting together a Dancehall-style remix of two of my absolute favorite tracks. I'm pretty proud of how it turned out, but if I’m being honest, I feel like it’s missing that special something to make it sound like proper, authentic Dancehall.

I’m from the Canary Islands, so I live that island life and I absolutely love the vibes and energy of this genre. However, I know I still have a long way to go to really capture that essence and align my music with the true culture of the style. I feel like I haven't quite "caught the trick" yet.

I would love some advice for my future productions! If any experienced producers or Dancehall fans could drop some tips, I’d be incredibly grateful.

Specifically, I'd love to know:

  • What are the crucial elements (drum patterns, specific percussion, basslines) that I should focus on?
  • Are there any mixing tricks to get that authentic Caribbean bounce?
  • Any highly recommended sample packs, tutorials, or reference tracks to study?

Any help, feedback, or resources to help me respect and align with the culture better would be super appreciated. Thank you so much!

The "Duolingo-fication" of music practice: Why streaks are ruining our relationship with our instruments

Hey everyone,

A while back, I shared a post here about how habit trackers and productivity apps treat music practice like a gym routine or a language learning streak. The response from this community made it clear that a lot of us feel the same way: when playing music starts feeling like maintaining a streak, the joy disappears.

Since then, I’ve been thinking a lot about why traditional tracking apps fail musicians specifically, and it boils down to three main flaws:

1. The "Noodling vs. Practice" Dilemma

Most habit trackers treat 30 minutes of playing through pieces you’ve known for years the exact same as 30 minutes of slow, painful, deliberate practice on four difficult bars. Playing for sheer enjoyment is vital, but when an app treats both as identical "points" or "streak days," it encourages duration over depth—or makes you feel like casual playing doesn't "count."

2. The Guilt Barrier

Life gets busy. If you go out of town or take three days off, breaking a 40-day streak creates an artificial psychological hurdle. Instead of picking up your instrument feeling refreshed, you feel like you failed a test before you even start. Music should be a sanctuary, not a boss keeping attendance.

3. Fragmented Workflows

Flipping between a sheet music viewer, a separate tuner app, a metronome, and a note-taking app breaks flow state. Deep practice requires staying in the moment, not juggling phone screens every time you hit a tricky passage.

These frustrations are why I built Satie (getsatie.com)—a quiet practice space designed around how musicians actually work at the stand. No streaks, no scoreboards, and no guilt trips, just dedicated tools to keep you focused and in the flow.

I’d love to open up the conversation again:

  • How do you personally measure "good" practice without relying on simple time tracking?
  • Do you keep your casual playing time completely separate from your practice time, or do you let them blend together?

Looking forward to hearing how you all approach this!

I added a feature that lets you rearrange your song's structure and asks AI which version is actually better

Hey everyone — I've been building SongMap (iOS), an app that analyzes a song's structure (detects intro/verse/chorus/etc. and gives structural feedback). Just shipped v1.1 and wanted to share the headline feature, since I'm genuinely curious what this sub thinks of it.

The problem I kept hitting: I'd wonder "what if the chorus came in 20 seconds earlier?" or "do I actually need that second verse?" — but testing that meant re-editing the actual song in my DAW just to hear it, which usually killed the idea before I ever tried it.

What's new:

  • Arrangement editor — drag your detected sections into a new order, duplicate one, or cut one entirely. You get an instant spliced preview so you can hear the new order without touching your DAW.
  • Save versions — save a rearrangement with a name so you can come back to it or compare it later.
  • AI verdict — the part I'm most unsure about: you can have Claude compare your original structure against your rearranged one and say which it thinks works better, and why — specific strengths on each side, not just a thumbs up.

Being upfront: the preview is a rough splice, not a polished remix. Sections are cut right at the detected boundaries, so joins can click or land slightly off-beat. It's meant for sketching "does this order even make sense" before you go rebuild it properly in your DAW — not as a finished export. (Actual audio export is next on my list.)

It's a Pro feature, rest of the app has a free tier.

Would really appreciate feedback, especially from anyone who tries the AI verdict — not sure yet if it's genuinely useful or just a gimmick, so real reactions help a lot.

Made my mixing/mastering feedback app run fully offline — no more sending your mix anywhere

I've been building MixDoctor, an app that gives plain-English feedback on your mixes (not just graphs and numbers — actual "here's what's off and why" type notes).

Just shipped an update that runs the whole analysis on-device for anyone on iOS/macOS 26+ using Apple's new local model framework. Your audio never leaves your phone or Mac — no upload, no round trip, and it's noticeably faster since there's no network call happening.

If you're not on 26 yet, nothing changes for you — it still runs the way it always has.

Been slowly chipping away at this as a solo dev since January, and this felt like a genuinely useful one rather than just a version bump. Curious if privacy/offline stuff like this actually matters to people here, or if it's more of a "nice to have" — trying to figure out what to prioritize next.
