Over 90 Day Progress 2 years of Nofap, how it saved my life

After two years of nofap, I would like to share my story to motivate others who think that this can't be done.

I am 31 years old right now, and I quit watching around two years ago. It has been a really hard journey, but also a really rewarding one.

I started watching adult content when I was 17 years old, and I kept watching without even realizing it was a serious problem. I knew it was wrong, but I never really tried to quit. I had very low self confidence and very low self esteem. I didn't think much about my future or where my life was going.

The only thing I was thinking about was when I would get the chance to watch, since I always had someone living in the same room with me. Whenever I had an opportunity, I would do it. By that time, I couldn't even speak normally to people or look them in the eyes during a conversation. I felt really awkward around others.

When I was 25, I found a job in another city and moved there alone. That's when things got even worse. I was watching almost every day, sometimes for 5 hours, and I had a level of depression I had never experienced before in my life.

That's where my journey started.

I wanted to quit, and for the next three years I tried over and over again. I relied heavily on willpower, but it wasn't enough. When I was 27, I finally decided to seek help. I realized that all the random things I was doing weren't getting me anywhere.

So I started learning. I read about what adult content does to the mind and what can be done to counter those effects. Slowly, things started to change and I tried more effective ways that I eventually reached the point where I said goodbye to it for good.

Now, two years later, I can honestly say it was worth every single thing I went through. Every urge I resisted. Every painful moment. Every time I denied myself that temporary pleasure.

Today, I feel much more comfortable talking to people. I'm social. I enjoy conversations. I enjoy spending time with friends and being around people, I am not even recognizable. I started going to the gym and I look way better physically and more mentally

I'm married now, which is amazing. I'm building a business. I think about the future. I think about goals, opportunities, and how to create a better life for myself. I have more confidence and better social skills than I ever had before.

Two years is not a very long time, but it was enough to completely change my life.

To everyone trying to quit: keep going. Keep pushing through the hard days.

I'm talking to you from the future.

It's worth it.

Questions on Fasting and Masturbation

As-salaamu-alaikum,

Ramadan Mubarak! May Allah take us safely through Ramadan, and may He make Ramadan easy for us, and may He accept our efforts.

Every Ramadan, we get flooded with the same questions. So I am preemptively re-sticking last year's post, which addresses the most common Ramadan questions on this subreddit. Please read the following before making a post:

  1. Engaging in immoral sexual behavior while fasting is a serious issue.

  2. Watching porn is Haraam under any circumstances. Watching porn, or starting to masturbate makes the fast Makrooh. The fast does not break immediately, but the reward of the fast is lost.

  3. For masturbation, the fast breaks at either the point of orgasm or ejaculation. Whether a dry orgasm breaks the fast, or fluid gushing forth breaks the fast, differs between schools of thought, and may differ for men and women. Please consult a scholar whom you trust for a specific answer. Many of them can be contacted anonymously via email these days, for those who are shy to ask directly. May Allah protect us from having to ask this question.

  4. If a fast is broken, it has to be made up after Ramadan. The manner in which one has to make up for broken fasts differs between schools of thought. Most say that 1 fast is needed, while others (mainly the Maliki madhab) say that 60 consecutive fasts are needed. The latter group has further rulings if multiple fasts were broken and one is not physically or financially capable of making them up. These issues should be answered by a scholar on a case-by-case basis. Please speak to a qualified scholar for more detailed advice on this matter.

  5. Even if a fast is broken, one should not eat until iftaar.

  6. The rulings on broken fasts don't apply to actions done outside of fasting during the nights of Ramadan, but we should avoid sinful acts at all times and focus on maximizing ibaadah in the nights of Ramadan.

  7. Allah is Al-Afuo, Al-Ghafoor and Al-Raheem – he loves to Forgive, Pardon and is Merciful to His servants. Sincerely beg for his forgiveness. Get back on track, learn from the mistake, and try to do better.

  8. Wet dreams do not invalidate the fast.

  9. If you have a wet dream before suhoor, then it is recommended to perform ghusl before Fajr time sets in. However, if you perform ghusl after Fajr time starts, your fast will still be valid.

  10. It's clear that many of you don't read the FAQ or the rules. Please read these before posting.

  11. Anyone found giving generalized fiqh rulings where there are differences of opinion between schools of thought, or where an individualized answer may be required by a scholar, will receive a temporary ban.

May Allah grant us Barakah in Ramadaan, may He make the month easy for us, and may he protect us from all sins.

Advice Request How do you stop?

Hello everyone I’m a 18 going to be 19 in a couple of months ( pls excuse my poor grammar and English before reading this)

How do I stop thinking about sex
All I keep thinking about is sex and to the point where it’s affecting my studies, for example I’ll suddenly find myself drifting off thinking about it while I’m studying.

The moment I wake up I start thinking about scenarios about it. I think it’s mainly due to me being exposed to pornography early on in life (7-9ish) and

how do I release myself from constantly thinking about it. And sometimes I would just try to distract myself from thinking about it but it’s all I think about. But I feel so dirty afterwards from thinking about it

I feel so frustrated from this whole situation is there something wrong with my mind?

Advice Request Do you make the choice to relapse first or does the relapse happen without you knowing?

I’m wondering, those who relapse, does the thought come across your mind:

“If I do x or engage in y behaviour there is a high likelihood that I might relapse” and then you decide it’s not worth it and then actively decide to ensure you don’t do that

Or do you have that thought and then somehow convince yourself you can resist or that it won’t happen this time… but deep down inside you know it will and still decide to anyways and then with the blink of an eye your back at day 0

for me I know a prime time of weakness is at night just before I go bed I like to just have a scroll through YouTube.

It’s one of those things where after a long, hard and difficult day I just like to tuck in and fully relax. But I also know that for me this is the prime context where a relapse can happen.

Triggers aren’t always the things you may see but they’re often times the actions, context and environment where the relapse happens.

But I really struggle to give up my phone scrolling before bed. I don’t do it at night intending to relapse or even wanting to relapse but I convince myself that I can just have a scroll till I’m tired and then go sleep

Progress Update The struggle

Honestly I think the hardest times are when your home alone. When you are alone with nothing but your thoughts.

I guess it should be said, yes I’m a revert to Islam. I struggled with this for so many years even before I became Muslim.

I want to improve myself, to learn more about who I am, and who I’m meant to be.

I think each of has struggles, and no 2 people have exactly the same urges or desires, for some of you this may be as simple as saying no, and for others it may be as hard as quitting breathing.

If it was meant to be easy then what would be the point.

I think I need to have a group of Muslim friends, somewhere to spend my time and energy. Less scrolling more doing you know?

I know this is probably a silly post, but it helps. Just to… be me, not be consumed by it, to focus on something real, something that makes a difference.

Thank you, all of you, for being here, and for wanting to help those whose bodies betray them.

Barakah Allahu Fik

Advice Request Male. It is such a struggle. Does this get fixed during marriage?

I am ashamed to admit that I’m 30 and I’m stuck in this vicious masturbation cycle. I wanna get out of it. I realized whenever I’m talking to a potential, I usually get a lot better at self control because I wanna give it effort. So that’s why I’m posting this question. Like anyone close to my shoes?

I’m so ashamed that I’m 30 and I still struggle with this. Feels so embarrassing.

Motivation/Tips 40 Day self purification through salah - day 2

40-Day self purification through salah challenge

The whole premise of this challenge is built around one āyah and its tafsīr:

**Al-'Ankabut - Verse 45**

**Sahih International:**
**“Recite, \[O Muḥammad\], what has been revealed to you of the Book and Establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allāh is greater. And Allāh knows that which you do.”**
**— Qur’an 29:45**

Allah tells us that Salah prevents *fahshā’* and *munkar* — indecency, immorality and evil.

We see in the ahadith:
Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه reported that a man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said:
**“This person prays in the night but he steals in the morning!”**
The Prophet ﷺ replied:
**“Verily, prayer should stop him from doing that if what you say is true.”**

*Musnad Ahmad 9778 — graded Sahih by Shu‘ayb al-Arna’ut.*

Ibn Kathir explains this āyah:

**“Prayer includes two things: the first of which is giving up immoral behaviour and evil deeds, i.e. praying regularly enables a person to give up these things.”**

The premise of these 40 days is instead of spending another 40 days only concentrating on **“I need to stop this sin, I need to do another nofap streak”**

we are going to spend 40 days concentrating on **establishing the thing Allah Himself tells us should prevent us from sin: our Salah.**

**A salah perfection streak.**

One of the greatest victories we can give Shaytan is allowing him to make us doubt that Salah will be able to prevent us from sin.

Because if he convinces us of that, he has made us doubt the very promise contained within this āyah.
So for 40 days, **we’re putting the āyah into practice.**

Each of us chooses a Salah goal appropriate to where we currently are.
Maybe yours is:
praying all five prayers every day
praying every Salah on time
praying in congregation
adding your Sunnah prayers
improving your khushūʿ
slowing down and praying properly
becoming more conscious of Allah during Salah
Whatever level you’re at, **choose something and work on establishing your Salah for 40 days.**

Everyone participating: **post your daily performance in the comments.**
Tell us what your Salah goal is and how you did today.
Be honest. The point isn’t to pretend we’re perfect. It’s to hold ourselves accountable and see what happens when we genuinely work on our Salah for 40 days.

Advice Request I relapsed

I wont take your time alot. I'm ashamed and feel the guilt and its a loop. But I was addicted since 2021. Couldn't resist for more than a day but this time I resisted for over 45 days. Things is Fap is the problem more than bad content for me. I have still avoided bad content for a long time but Fap Is something I'm still trying to control. I need advice from the community. I feel ashamed andI can't work or study properly and this thing has led to me in having a weak Iman (I'm not proud of saying this), The passion for becoming a great muslim day by day seems to vanish just because this sin is in my life and I can't control it. I need help guys.

Advice Request I just relapsed again and I feel ashamed of myself.

It's been more than 3 months since I relapsed but today I did this sinful act.

I thought that I had overcome this addiction however from nowhere I got a sudden urge which I couldn't control. Even after praying 5 times a day and making so much dhikr still I couldn't escape this addiction.

Here I only blame myself because I did this sinful act after coming back from Isha prayer. Here I write this post because I want this to be recorded so that in future if I get the same temptation I could come here to seek help.

I don't have any valid points left in me. I feel ashamed of myself. May Allah forgive our sins.

Progress Update 4 days in

4 days of no relapse, the urge is there but feeling pretty confident I can make it to at least 6-7 days this time which will be the longest I've gone in a long while. Been keeping myself pretty busy with regular work, movies etc and I feel like keeping myself busy and not giving the time to relapse might be the key, although being busy or occupied all the time might be pretty hard to begin with. Someone suggested the rubber band method in my last post but haven’t tried that yet.

Progress Update Day 8

Damn I nearly forgot to post. It's nearly midnight - like 16 minutes until Day 8 is completed.

Yeah today I'll be honest, it was almost like I've gotten used to abstaining. Realized I've got bigger problems than not giving in to pleasure 🤣🤣

Alhamdulillah tho. Hope everyday is like this.

Motivation/Tips Can I turn my life Around?

Assalamualaikum guys,

I have been addicted to Porn and masturbation, and that has rapidly destroyed my life. I got addicted as a young guy growing up at the age of 13.

I didn't go looking for it. I stumbled upon it. That's where my life took a nosedive.

Now, I am in my 30s, and I have lost the connection with Almighty Allah.

Can't think, don't know what to do with my life. I am unmarried, living in near abject poverty, and also living with my parents.

Everyone sees me as a total failure, which I am. I have failed myself, my lineage, everything.

I have lost my focus. My spark and determination to succeed at something. During solat, I often feel like I have lost the eagerness to pray. I don't feel it anymore. The Almighty has left me to my plight.

I wish I had never discovered porn.

Motivation/Tips I want to give up

I just relapsed. And honestly I feel like I should just give up. I’ve been trying to get married recently but I’m too scared to start because of this. I’ve told myself that I’ll start looking once I’m 3 months clean. But I can’t even keep clean for 10 days. Marriage is starting to feel impossible to me now. I’m starting to think I should just give up on marriage. At least that way the suffering stays with me.

Does anyone ever feel like this? Has anyone ever been through all of this?

Progress Update A daily journal until I get rid of this addiction

Day 1:

I am not a very practicing Muslim and I know that's bad. Getting rid of this addiction is the top priority issue in my life right now. I will take daily actions however small they may be to get to the point where I am no longer haunted by this sin anymore. The strategy I will follow is to consider this as a marathon and be consistent. Goal for tomorrow is to pray atleast one prayer and avoid doom scrolling too much which seems to be a major trigger these days. If there are any urges during the day, I will play a video game for some time and recite some verses from Quran to keep me going.

Advice Request I need to vent

I am not a perfect Muslim. I need to spend time on my deen. I feel so far from perfect. I’m a revert, and I hate the way it makes me feel, after doing it… I just… I don’t even know how to describe it, like my body is acting on autopilot, like a haze or a fog overcomes me. It’s like an obsession. I know I have to stop, I want to stop. I just don’t know how. I feel stupid, not even being able to control my own body’s desire. It makes me feel so far away from who I want to be, so far away from Allah. I know if I can’t get past this it’s going to get worse, it’s invasive, and it affects every part of your life. I know I have to face it alone, it’s not something you can exactly share with someone in person. Ya Allah, help me, guide me, protect me from myself, from sinful thoughts, for sinful actions. Bring me closer to you again, please, show me the right path to walk. Muhammad sallahu alahi wa salam was right to fear for this dunya.

Sorry, I just needed to get that out

Motivation/Tips Final boss

Just wanted to vent a little bit after failing once again.
So whoever said that Lust is the final boss, it really is. It just makes me sad at this point that I was taken over by this disgusting evil act at a very young age, like many of our brothers and sisters here and at this time it has warped our reality, and our human physiology.
Ya Allah, I beg for your mercy, I only yearn to be loved, be with someone, feel human again. It’s been too much and the weight of this sin is making my chest hurt, please help me and everyone suffering from this get rid of it, for good. Please Ya Allah, help us

Advice Request Has tahajjud helped?

A common advice that’s usually given for overcoming this addiction is to wake up for tahajjud. I wanted to ask if anyone here has truly done the following with istiqamah (steadfastness).

Have you genuinely woken up for tahajjud every day for at least 40+ days in a row without a miss and made dua at tahajjud to be free from this, and that tahajjud is something you are still doing to this day but have still not been able to overcome it despite this?

This is only for someone who has reached 40+ days and is still currently praying daily tahajjud

Also what is the level of khushu of your tahajjud? Is it on the level where you are praying as though you see Allah or that he sees you?

I’m not asking so you can expose your good deeds but I’m asking if tahajjud has solved your issue given you have performed it in the manner as described and with that length of time or longer

Advice Request a weird kind of problem

so guys i am in a weird problem. i am married and have been on and off porn sometimes for as long as 6 months. but nowadays not more than 30 days.

The reason nowadays the streaks are so low is because of "flatline".

When I leave all the p*rn, and m*stur*ation, i get very weird energy crashes.

In a few days when the horniness period goes away, I stop getting morning wood.
Then stop getting erection on demand. Get very depressed. Looks like testosterone goes down a lot. External meds work but when I am m*sturb*ting,

But when I am masturbating every like 10-20 days I have good energy, wake up with morning wood like atlesat 90% of the time. Can do a lot of sex without worrying about it. And am not depressed.

Is it just in my mind?
