AIF SECOND ANNIVERSARY SOLIDARITY WEEK

In the week leading to our second anniversary on October 15th, we call on internationalists, comrades, and supporters of the AIF to stand in solidarity with the people of Myanmar and the Spring Revolution.

In the two years since the AIF has been founded, not only has it become an effective force in the fight against the dictatorship, it has also been a material representation of internationalist solidarity against fascism. Under the star of the AIF, comrades from dozens of different realities from within Myanmar and abroad have united in the struggle against the male-dominated state system.

The last year has been critical not just for the AIF, but for the entire revolution. The genocidal regime, refreshed with a new wave of conscription and foreign support from Russia and China, has launched offensives against the liberated areas of the revolution, at the same time intensifying indiscriminate attacks against civilian populations. Against this, alongside our comrades, the AIF is resisting and will continue to resist until the eradication of military dictatorship.

We call on our comrades and supporters to stand in solidarity with the AIF and the peoples of Myanmar. Sing, dance, create, organize. In Thamagyi Village, Mahlaing Township, Meiktila District, Mandalay Region, 12 locals including the village administrator and a Pyusawhti militia leader were shot and killed in the early morning of August 31, according to reports.

Around 4:00 AM this morning, an armed group of approximately 50 people entered Thamagyi Village, located southeast of Mahlaing Town, and shot and killed 12 villagers including the village administrator, U Soe Lin Htike.

The deceased include Administrator U Soe Lin Htike, U Chit San Maung and his wife, U Maung Thein, U Zaw and his son, U Win Naing, and U Ohn Maung—a total of 12 people, according to information posted on military propaganda Telegram channels.

"Around early morning, about 4:00 AM, they entered the village and shot them with guns," a local source told Ayeyarwaddy Times.

Ayeyarwaddy Times has not yet been able to confirm which group carried out the attack. It is known that among the deceased was a Pyusawhti militia leader.

Thamagyi Village is located between the Yangon–Meiktila–Mahlaing–Myingyan road and the Yangon–Mandalay expressway. Locals say it is a village where Pyusawhti militias are currently stationed.

Mahlaing Township borders Meiktila, where the military has a base, as well as townships with strong resistance activity like Nwar Taw Gyi, Taung Tha, and Kyauk Pan Taung.

On May 18 of last year, an unknown armed group also abducted and shot dead the village administrator of Wa Khe Village, Mahlaing Township, outside the village.

The KIA and PDF joint forces attacked the junta naval group that was traveling up the Ayeyarwady River toward Shwegu. As a result of the attack, the vessel sustained mechanical damage and was no longer able to continue operating, forcing the junta to abandon it.

Following the 2021 military coup, Myanmar’s real estate sector has transformed into a high-risk ecosystem for systemic corruption, illegal financial flows, and complex fraud networks. Rather than serving as a standard property market, real estate in the country has increasingly become a primary vehicle for laundering illicit capital, with operations drawing heavy structural parallels to organized scam networks (“Kyat-Phant” or “Telecom Scam” operations).
**The Nexus Between Regime Officials and Fraud Networks**
The integration of illicit finance into the property market relies heavily on high-level collusion between military officials, regulatory bodies, and unscrupulous developers:
**Regulatory Immunity:** Corrupt officials provide political protection and forge legal documentation, enabling fraudulent developers to bypass land-use regulations and operate above the law.
**Document Falsification:** Fraudulent schemes frequently utilize forged land grants, duplicated title deeds (Pyaw-Boke), and unauthorized project approvals to sell non-existent or contested land to unsuspecting buyers.
**Shell Entities & Fronts:** Junta-linked elites and syndicate actors establish shell companies that project legitimate business fronts, masking the origin of criminal capital while luring local and overseas investors.
**Mechanisms of Money Laundering (Black to White Capital)**
The real estate market provides ideal conditions for washing illicit proceeds—generated from human trafficking, illegal online gambling, scam compounds, and drug trade:
**Over-Invoicing and Cash Transactions:** Large volumes of untraceable cash are injected into pre-construction developments, luxury condominiums, and commercial land purchases, converting unregistered "black money" into legal fixed assets ("white money").
**Artificial Price Inflation:** Manipulated property evaluations allow syndicates to move vast sums of illegal capital rapidly under the guise of high-value real estate transactions.
**Capital Flight & Asset Shielding:** Once laundered through property purchases, the assets are often resold or mortgaged to transfer clean funds into overseas bank accounts, effectively insulating criminal gains from international sanction regimes.
**Adopting the "Kyat-Phant" Syndicate Model**
The methods used in real estate fraud increasingly mirror the tactical structure of online scam syndicates:
**Targeted Exploitation:** Promoters deploy aggressive digital marketing campaigns and deceptive investment schemes targeting middle-class citizens looking to hedge against inflation and a crashing Kyat.
**Systemic Fraud Tactics:** Buyers are tied into non-refundable advance payment models, phantom construction timelines, and fraudulent escrow arrangements, leaving victims with zero legal recourse.
**Institutional Protection:** Just as scam compounds operate within guarded zones under regional patron-client networks, fraudulent real estate syndicates operate with near-total impunity under the direct supervision of junta-aligned figures.
This convergence of institutional corruption, organized crime, and real estate speculation continues to undermine financial transparency in Myanmar, exposing public investors to severe financial risk while consolidating wealth among military-aligned elites.
