What was your NCLEX prep for 3 weeks before the NCLEX?

Took a practice readiness maybe 2 weeks ago when I first started my prep and now working on practice questions, reading rationales, watching their crash videos, and study the cheat sheets!

I just finished taking my exam and the test shut off at 85 questions and I’m panicking because I think I failed and I guessed on majority of the questions and the questions were something I’ve never heard of. Does anyone have any advice? I’m currently crashing out rn

I didn't get into nursing school on my first try, I had to retake 2 classes, but I studied my ass off for this exam. I felt so defeated when the exam did not shut off at 85, and kept going all the way to 150. I thought for sure I failed. I even looked to see how much it would be to renew my uworld subscription. But even at 100, 120, 145, you're still in the game!!

I listened to all the mark k lectures and took notes, and used 82% of the uworld qbank with an average of 65%. I got high, borderline, high, borderline, and high on my readiness assessments. I had an upward trend on my CAT's, 2 weeks before taking 1 every day all with a difficulty of 1.1 and above.

If I can pass, you can pass too!!!

Just finished an ABSN program. They included the 3 day bootcamp at the day as part of our tuition. Over the course of the year, they repeatedly told us our tests were NCLEX format/incorporated next gen style in. Then during bootcamp which is run by people outside our school, they tell us NCLEX has audio questions that use headphones they will provide?? This is the first I’m hearing of this, and wondering if anyone has any more info/experience getting these questions on your NCLEX? I’m trying to think of what they could even test on for audio material… maybe death rattle or certain breathing sounds?

Hi, I’m just really upset and tired. I tested 08/27 and got my results 08/29. I thought I was doing somewhat well on the NCLEX so my results just blew me away. I would study slightly after work, reading chapters from my ATI/HESI book and listened to Mark K. I signed up for bootcamp and resubmitted my applications but, I just feel really hopeless and unmotivated.

Testing Friday — am I ready?
The scores are my most recent data from the last 2 weeks. I started using uworld and switched to bootcamp recently for more raw data since I used uworld a bit during my last semester of school.

Bootcamp: 79%, 83%, 83% — Very High x3
UWorld CAT: 99th percentile, On Track
UWorld assessment: 76%, High, 73%, High (slightly above average percentile)
Bootcamp overall score: 71%

My main weakness is maternity/newborn (59%, newborn 48%). What would you focus on these last few days? Would you feel comfortable testing Friday with these scores?
I started listening to Mark K lecture specific to maternal health.
Any other advice?

Hi everyone! I just graduated nursing school and I’m planning to take my NCLEX in about 3 weeks. I’ve been using UWorld to study and just took my first CAT exam. I scored a 71%, it stopped at 85 questions, and UWorld currently has me in the 73rd percentile overall with a 61% average on my QBank.

I’m definitely going to keep studying, especially my weaker concepts, and continue doing QBank questions and CAT exams, but MAN 😭 that first CAT I genuinely felt like I knew NOTHING lol. I was shocked when I saw my score afterward.

For those who have already taken the NCLEX, how accurate did you feel the UWorld CAT exams were compared to the actual NCLEX? Did you also feel completely lost while taking the CATs even when you were doing okay?

Also, has anyone used mainly/only UWorld to prepare and passed? I’d love to hear what your scores looked like leading up to your exam and how you felt going into NCLEX! 🥲🤞🏼

I feel like everyone over complicates the nclex personally all I used was mark K lecture 12, Saunders & ati. All free sources, I’m an ADN & I challenged the LPN nclex. 2hours after the nclex I did the Pearson trick & got the good response & my money returned to my account! I do feel my school exams were harder & I do feel like nclex had like 3 ati questions on it which I was shocked to see. I literally probably studied 2-3 full days & that’s it. I suck at memorizing content but I am good with test taking.

I only did 2 cat exam on ATI 150 questions each. But Saunders for my practice questions & mannnn it helped so much! You don’t need all the extra stuff.

I took my second attempt today and it shut off at 93 after failing at 89 my last attempt. I’m super nervous and anxious honestly. My anxiety during the exam was a lot better controlled this time around and I feel like I was actually locked in, but I honestly have no idea how to feel. It wasn’t easy at all but it wasn’t hard. I had like 7 case studies, no bow tie, a bunch of SATA and multiple choice. Now I’m spiraling same way I did last time because I genuinely don’t know to feel and feel like I failed (same feeling as last time when I failed). I definitely knew my stuff this time and know I got things right but I looked up like 5 questions that i remembered after and got them wrong. I’m in Michigan and I know BON usually emails same day (tested at 8am) and it’s currently 4:40pm and still no email, so I’m getting nervous honestly.

Note: Everything listed here is from my own personal NCLEX experience. You can choose to discard whatever information is irrelevant to you. 

How I Passed the NCLEX:

The main key to passing the NCLEX is knowing how to ANSWER QUESTIONS, even when you’re not familiar with the question being asked. Do you need the know nursing content? Yes. Do you need to be good at critical thinking? Yes. Do you need to be good at guessing questions? Maybe. The NCLEX is more than a safety exam than everyone says. 

1. Dr Sharon on YouTube (Kilmek Reviews): She works at Klimek Reviews and apparently Mark Klimek happened to be her nursing school professor. I went through her Fundamentals, Pharmacology, Maternity and Women’s Health videos. The reason I love her content is for every topic, she makes up questions and gives you a walkthrough why the answers are correct and incorrect. She also uses every question to explain the content. The way to benefit from her videos is to write down everything she explains. Even if you feel you’re familiar with the content, write it down. Write down the strategies she gives you. I went through the notebook three times before the NCLEX (The third time was the two days before my exam day). She had lots of humor too😂.
2. Bootcamp: The first time I took the NCLEX I used Bootcamp. I won’t say I failed because of Bootcamp, it was because of me, I didn’t have a solid NCLEX preparation plan. Every NCLEX tool can aid your passing, it just depends on how you utilize it. One thing I liked about Bootcamp is their interface. It‘s user-friendly and easy to navigate. I also liked the fact that they had lots of bow-tie questions and case studies. Honestly, you get more for what you paid for. I also like the “NCLEX Question of the Day” they sent to my email every day. I have nothing against Bootcamp. Their content videos are short and informative but their rations are long.
3. UWorld: I used UWorld for my second take. I heard people say it was harder than the NCLEX and Bootcamp, so I decided to give the OG a try. Indeed, UWorld’s questions seemed harder than Bootcamp‘s questions but not the NCLEX. They are more concrete and will make you put your critical thinking hat on. Their rationale was straightforward and not was bulky as bootcamp in my opinion. I used to zone out on Bootcamp’s rationale. I didn’t like UWorld’s content videos. They are a lot and overstimulating. I only watched 10 videos and quit. However, UWorld prepared me well. It thought me how to answer questions better. I cannot choose between Bootcamp or UWorld. They are both good in their own ways.
4. NCLEX Crusade International (7 Day Training): I decided to check it out while working out at the gym. I only got to watch 4 of his videos on 4 different workout days. He gives great strategies to pass the NCLEX. He has a great personality and wants to see people pass. His videos are worth watching. 
5. NCSBN Exam Preview https://ncsbn.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8dDCtk2JFOKpjCu This should be mandatory for every NCLEX taker. You shouldn’t write the exam without answering the questions by yourself. It’s from the folks that prepare the exam can so why not. It doesn’t have any answers so I utilized ChatGPT. I was very careful to analyze the answers chat gave me because AI can be wrong. For the most part, most of the answers it gave were correct. They also have a sample pack with answers. 6. Be intentional, consistent and self-disciplined about this exam: Make good time to study or answer practice questions every day. Make sure you doing something exam related everyday even if it just reviewing rationales. The first time I took the exam, I would work 2 days every other week which isn’t crazy but I was also going to graduation parties and events I could’ve avoided or left earlier to go study. I’m not saying make your life 100% NCLEX, I’m saying be disciplined in whatever you plan to do outside your study time. Get enough rest, eat healthy, workout and stay hydrated, participate in your hobbies. Brain fog, anxiety, depression and fatigue will build up if your brain don’t have avenues to ventilat. I’m Christian, so I spent time reading my Bible, praying and didn’t stop going to church. This helped to increase my faith and reduce my anxiety because Jesus gave me peace. 
7. NCLEX Exam: People say the NCLEX is a safety exam but it is more than that. It examines your knowledge on different concepts in a very vague format. You may feel like a majority of the questions are completely outside of what you studied. But your study habits and practice questions will help you answer the questions correctly. I had lots of case studies, I mean 1 question case study which was annoying to read through because I prepared for a 5-6 question case study. I received questions from every content area. Don’t make a mistake of listening to someone that told you they had more OB questions. Be prepared for every subject. The NCLEX doesn’t give the exact questions to everyone. It’s an adaptive test. BE PREPARED. I finished in 140 questions. I 90% thought I failed and 10% passed. You will most likely feel this exact way. But you haven’t failed until your quick results says FAILED two day later. When you finish doesn’t matter. Your computer can shutdown at any point of the exam at or after question 85. Shutting at 85 or 150 can be a pass or fail. Same applies to any other question it shuts at. Don’t obsess over your computer shutting at 85, prepare for it to shut at 150. Train yourself to answer 150 questions at a go while you practice. Also, utilize the breaks they give you. Use the bath, stretch, take a deep breath, drink some water.
8. Exam day: Get enough sleep the night before. Eat a light meal. Limit things that increase your anxiety (caffeine). Don’t have the mindset of a failure, have the mindset of a champion. You passed nursing school you can pass this. Think of the millions of nurses there are in the US, they took this exam and passed. They aren’t better than you. Just be focused with a growth mindset. 
9. Checking my results: I didn’t do the Pearson VUE trick. I checked my state’s Board of Nursing registry and saw Registered Nurse after my name. This didn’t show up after my first NCLEX exam, so I knew I most likely passed this time. I took my exam on a Thursday so my Quick Results were ready on Saturday. I checked and finally saw the PASS I’ve been waiting for!
10. Final advise: You can do whatever you set your mind to do. Failing an NCLEX exam doesn’t define you or isn’t a foreshadow of your clinical competence. You’re way more valuable than this exam. You will pass with the right preparation, practice, mindset, routine, memorization strategies, study habits, critical thinking skills and wellbeing. CONGRATULATIONS IN ADVANCE

I'm getting to the point where I feel like I'm memorizing a million numbers and forgetting them five minutes later 😂 I usually use YouTube when I don't understand something, but with lab values I feel like I need a better way to actually remember them.

Do you guys have any good mnemonics, free resources, or tricks that helped you remember the important ones? Especially things like electrolytes, CBC values, kidney function, etc. I'm looking for something that's actually useful for exams and not just a giant list of numbers.

Hi! How did you guys maximize your subscription? For those who finished the crash courses and questions, what was your study plan? I have a 2 month subscription and I'm still exploring bootcamp.

Posting this because I spent way too much time at the beginning searching things like "best NCLEX resource," "how many questions should I do," and "am I ready for NCLEX?" instead of just starting.

The biggest mistake I made was thinking I needed the perfect study plan.

I kept changing resources, comparing qbanks, watching study videos, then changing my plan again after reading another Reddit post.

What worked better for me was keeping things simple.

I used practice questions to figure out what I actually didn't understand, then reviewed the rationales instead of immediately jumping into another set.

For NGN and clinical judgment, I spent extra time doing case studies. I used Bootcamp for some of that practice, along with my other materials, but the bigger thing for me was slowing down enough to understand why I was choosing an answer.

I also wish someone had told me earlier that a bad qbank score doesn't automatically mean you're not ready.

Some days you're tired. Some sets hit every topic you're weak in. Some questions just expose gaps you didn't know you had yet.

Don't panic and rebuild your entire study plan after one bad score. I did that way too many times lol.

If you're studying for your first NCLEX, my biggest advice would be to focus less on finding the "best" resource and more on actually learning from the questions you're already doing.

I am in the process of applying for the NCLEX. I am married and have legally changed my name twice in the past. This means that I have a birth surname, a legally changed surname 1, and a legally changed surname 2 (which matches my married name; I changed it to my married name via the courts one month before I got married). Pearson asks the following:

If you ever changed your name, what is your previous last name?

According to the Pearson rep I spoke with, my maiden name is the same as my married name since I changed it via the courts prior to getting married.

Since I have my birth surname, my first legal surname change, and my second legal surname change (same as my married name), should I list all three separated by commas? Or just by birth surname and my first legal surname change? I forgot to ask them on the phone. Any insight would help. Thanks!

I initially thought I will start preparing for nclex this semester. But realistically it’s not possible. I am already struggling to keep up with this semester’s content.

I want to know from people who have passed nclex, when did you all start preparing and how?
I have access to ATI and saunder’s comprehensive Nclex revision. Is that enough?

I also wanted to ask, when should I start applying for jobs if I graduate in March?
